Cronos has been rotting in the desert for so long that he can barely feel anything now. Plus, lava hot is nothing compared to what Tartarus is. He is no regular enemy, he's powerful and Kratos put in quite the effort to defeat him.

I love how the titan character models change size throughout the boss fights all the time. Cronos goes from being the size of other titans at 1:11 to bigger than thamur at 1:14. Same thing went with Atlas, he was a normal sized titan during certain scenes but in other scenes he was at least as big as Cronos.
