Honestly in the god of war series kratos was a major villain who would slaughter the world just to get rid of his nightmares. Until god of war 4 he was a horrible person.

My problem with him exactly. He's constantly rambling about how the gods are assholes and don't care about regular people when he literally brought death and destruction to the whole world, killing everyone just to complete his own goals. He's better in GoW4 but I still find a lot of the same. He still pushes people around, cares only about himself, does nothing for others unless he has something to gain from it, kills anyone that gets in his way etc. Different reasons same gods.

He's not entirely a villain either. Zeus and the rest of the Olympians used to the entire human race as pawns in their battles and forced the humans to worship them. On top of that: Zeus took Deimos (kratos brother) away and imprisoned him in hell under the watch of Thanatos, Ares forced Kratos to kills his family in order to make him a better warrior, Zeus cursed Calisto (kratos mom) into turning a monster when she revealed Kratos' father, Zeus also promised to take away Kratos' nightmares if he followed Olympus commands, but didnt. Annnnnnnd Zeus stabbed Kratos in the back with the sword of Olympus in GOW2

Loved this part though I always found it kinda anti climatic that you killed the 2nd only to Zeus himself as the intro boss. And then you killed Hades right afterwards. Personally I would've loved if Hades was the main boss in the first third of the game, then Poseidon in the middle and finally Zeus, because they are the Three Big Ones of the Greek Gods.

Long story short, Poseidon, alongside many of the gods' redesigns, and the change on Kratos' tatto pattern, were part of the creative liberties Cory Barlog took when he took over the direction of God Of War 2, ignoring anything (the bonus videos, though they were retconned latter on) but the main events of God Of War 1

in hindsight, Poseidon must be powerful AF... Kratos needed all of advanced weapons, + the Blade of Olympus and all his godly power (contained within the blade) + a little help from Gaia to defeat him. whereas he defeated Ares without the blade or said "God of War" powers and defeated Hades after losing a great deal of his power in the River Styx.

Would it really have been possible for kratos to defeat posiedon without gaia's help? I mean even kratos had to ask posiedon to leave the sea where he's crazy strong. And gaia did help a lot in this fight.
