i would rate this game a 7 just because i actually bought the ps4 pro for this game only...ended up getting all ps4 exclusives haha! i was disappointed...mainly because i thought the story would be deep....but the story basically is that you have to throw the ashes from the highest peak .... is that a story :p sounds as deep as mario has to save the princess :P i havnt touched the game after i completed the game at 24% completion. I liked uncharted 4 and detroit more than GOW but that is my personal preference.

Everyone loves to criticize Red Dead Redemption 2 & other games for their flaws, but will ignore God of War’s flaws. The re-skinned enemies, lackluster boss fights, overdone father-son theme, and toned down on a lot. I know games don’t have to be gory and bloody to be good, but I expected more gruesome finishing moves & bigger boss fights.

its overall a decent game,but it started to become boring around halfway and I think I have a reason for this,for me anyway at the start the amazing sound design and beautiful Art and visuals stun you so much that it seems like such an amazing experience but halfway through when your over that and the novelty is worn off you start to notice some of the blandness such as boring boss fights,lack of enemies,boring slow walking and cutscenes constantly slowing the pace down,the camera angle at first is immersive but as the game goes on it starts to piss you off how it can intervene with the fluidity of the game and how it makes the combat a bit fractured,overall it's a good game worth buying but it's not a masterpiece or worth replaying

That's a part of my problem with this game. I've heard SO many content creators praise the semi-open-world design, and how you're "rewarded" for exploration, but in reality it's kind of a pain, and it's still "backtracking" no matter how you dress it up. And you're more or less FORCED to explore to a certain degree, as plot progression is tied to exploration in some regards. And with all of the possibilities for awesome enemies and places in all the different realms. I just feel like they could have done more and missed some pretty big opportunities. You spend 85-90% of your time in *Midgard* , and it's bland and completely indistinguishable after several hours, and while the few realms that we get to see all look awesome, there's literally nothing to do in any of them. * *Muselpheim* and *Niflheim* are 2 realms that were reduced to challenge/horde/trials maps. With no real relevance to the story. * *Alfheim* and *Helheim* are so small and single-tracked that they may as well be considered "on-rails" areas because there's really only 2 or 3 things to do there and one direction to go towards. * And while *Jötunheim* serves as the most important location from a plot perspective, and while I also loved seeing all of those dead Giants strewn across the land, there's literally nothing to do there, and to top it off you can't go back there once you finish the story. The outside areas of the Mountain, Helheim, Freya's area, and Thamur's corpse are the only areas that offer any type of variation, but all of those areas are so small and limited, that they don't even collectively account for 15% of the game. Don't get me wrong despite all of this, I still think this is a "good" game, and a great starting point for SIE Santa Monica to continue the series. But what people don't seem to get is that if everyone says the game is perfect and no one is willing to call pout ANY of the BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS negatives that would have gotten lambasted had this been any other game, or a new IP, they're removing the need for improvement and innovation. Why should the devs go the extra step to fix or improve ANYTHING if everyone is just going to say it's "perfect" either way? When *it's* *not* *even* *the* *best* *of* *this* *generation* , *let* *alone* *perfect* .

Agreed about the repetitive game play and weak bosses. They recycle a lot of enemies, especially those trolls, and just change like one thing. Another disappointing thing is the lack of different finisher moves and toned down gore. I can kind of understand that since Kratos is different now but it's a staple of the game. As for the bosses, even on the God of War mode (hardest difficulty), they still lack in comparison to the regular enemies. You can spend hours on a mini boss fight with a Dragur but maybe half that with the actual bosses.

I dropped this game today, I've had enough. I got to the realm of... whatever.... the first realm you visit after activating the Bifrost. My biggest issue with this game is that it doesn't have a clear structure, sometimes is linear, sometimes it seems to be a Metroid-esque design, but suddenly you have a hub world?. The world building is weird, it lacks symmetry, or a logic structure, everything I've done to this point is this "One Time" activity with no clear direction or purpose, you just do things and things happen. Why is there two blacksmiths?, if that Temple or bridge thing was under a lake how did that blacksmith set up his shop inside?. Then there is this Witch you find in the woods who starts spilling a bunch of Asgardian gibberish about crystals, bridges, trees, more crystals, lights and black cloud that need to be dispelled and I'm like; WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?, WHO ARE YOU ANYWAY?, and why are you helping these two stranges that shot your Boar for sport?. WTF?. This game is a mess.

9:15 holy sh*t you nailed it! with the hit detection specially if you're fighting against two Wulvers. (1 of the Wulvers is 3 levels higher than me w purple health) I saved a video clip of it, then I am so pissed after re-watching my clip. The Wulver I managed to pushed back into the corner *shouldn't* even be able to fight back, but after my 4th swing of light attacks the axe just basically pass through inside it and did nothing (no physical reaction) it's like the Wulver is invulnerable for a split second that resulted to Wulver getting it's bearing.. and that's how I'm getting caught off guard for most of that time, because I am throwing a follow up attack knowing that I took advantage of the opening but for some unfair reason the Wulver is throwing an attack back at me even though it's in a scenario where it should have been physically impossible. ..facepalm.

totally agree with you...i just finished the main game.....and as soon as i did that i said to myself...this is not a great game...its a good game with exceptional presentation. Too many loopholes in the story and the story itself is not a great movie level story.....its just an ok/good story. The real star of the game is the amazing presentation and the combat which makes your jaw drop that this is possible on the ps4 pro at 4k. Another thing i noticed was that there are not too many bosses whereas i was expecting more bosses/enemy type. All in all a good game....after completing the main story it shows my completion percentage is 24 which is great as it makes the longevity of the game better.

Found the side quests somewhat boring, the map navigation to even find location of side quests is not done well. And enemy variety is somewhat lacking, particularly bosses. But other than that I really enjoyed, although it does seem like a more streamlined God of war for casual audiences rather than the greek mythology ones.

I was probably halfway through the game and lost my save profile. Haven't played for 2 years because of that and then Ragnorak came out and I decided to get back into it. I am NOT enjoying this game and I am debating whether or not I even want to finish it. The fights are annoying and not fun. The travel is slow and boring and the story is going nowhere fast. Your review is spot on. Glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. I prefer the Resident Evil style of pacing and puzzles. Not liking the new GoW style and I miss the melee style of the older games.

All my friends recommended God of War 4, and I was also interested in the game because I have played and enjoyed the older God of war games. The game sucks. Combat and Controls suck. Poor balance between story and combat. Way to much inventory and skill management. I followed the game since day one till its release. I bought the deluxe version and the deluxe strategy guide. Put 60 hours in the game. Took the time to collect everything and complete all the side quests. I kept asking my self ? Why the fuk am i still playing this. It is a boring game. It looked so awesome and started off really awesome. The dude who came to the cabin out of nowhere was cool and the fight that pursued it is awesome. After that the game staled out. I kept putting time in, hoping it would change pace and it does look amazing. Why not keep the gow formula that made all of the other ones so fun and just apply it to this game. what a waste.

2020 i've played god of war 3 (for the first time) on ps4 and LOVED IT! Then i start GoW2018 and all the hype was gone :( I thing this game is for non god of war players and thats why so many people like it. But, for me, i think it's a very boring game compared to GoW1,2 and specially GoW3.

I see 2 main flaws with this game: 1. Super Cycling, and 2. unnecessary length. The opening sequence and the ending are extremely high quality with the story and gameplay, also the blades scene, but literally the rest of the game feels like filler. This game could have been an 8 hour long adrenaline rush if it weren't for unnecessary shit. Also, once you get halfway through the game you get like 7 different super attacks that recharge in 40 seconds, so you don't even have to play anymore you just have to spam cycle supers.

Here to talk about the game after the pc version was just released and it was brought to my attention. The only decent thing about this game is the visuals and the no loading screen gimmick. Story was abysmal with the entire game being read to you combined with long frequent cutscenes. You can't build a connection to any character because they were literally absent the entire game and the ones that were around did not contribute anything to the story or backstory. You also never even get to interact with any of the "big" guys that were constantly being spoken about, you don't even get a visual for them. The gameplay was truly disappointing, Kratos is a god of war and he was scratching enemies the entire game with slow combos that lack variety and damage. When you do want to get new skills and gear to try and spice things up the oddball leveling system breaks the entire flow of the already dull story/gameplay. No bosses were memorable and you pretty much encounter only 3 bosses multiple times that use the same attacks and then you come to find out quickly they are all just the small henchman of the actual antagonist (saving them for next game ofc). Even if you did not connect with Kratos in the previous titles it was at least backed up by the raw gameplay that was available.

I would argue the lack of loading screens is actually a detriment You see these tunnel sequences lock a game to slow crawling times on its worse possible hardware whine a loading screen’s load tube will decrease over time because technology faster (just look at half-life)

Yes, I am here after 4 years. Finally playing it on my PS5, the game is just not fun. Compare that to God of War 3 and the new God of War doesn't have it's pace, the scale and even excitement. The super close camera is horrible. Started playing it after getting it on PS Plus and uninstalled as soon as I finished it. Never once I felt like playing Kratos from previous game, on "Give me God of War" difficulty, even the weaker enemies are kicking Kratos's ass.

This is my 3rd time trying to finish this game , hopefully this time I finish. The sad thing is people just tell me I don’t like it cause I love action so much 😂 bro I read Russian classic literature sometimes for fun. I don’t need action, trust me. The problem is that nothing in the game connects with me. Also I heard they never reveal the mother either, which is like...why? It’s like unneeded mystery that takes you out of the game because they would definitely be talking directly more about the mother than some vague stuff after her death. It’s a good game very much so, but a great one? Heck no. The 10/10 from this and last of us 2 is giving me real gaslighting Truman show going crazy vibes. I think games that have a buddy system it takes away the whole immersion, as your relying on this buddy to help you and sometimes ruin the moment. Being on your own in a game has so much weight to it, RE4 did it right, as there are parts when you are on your own and ashley is somewhere waiting. So the whole mood changes and its hella scary. Like wise with GOW, takes away the whole badassery of a one man army taking on everyone like in the latter games.

This game is by far not perfect, however I can disagree on one thing. The thing that this game is different form the past is because Krstos has changed, for the 1st time in 3 main game titles and 3 spin offs (ascension IS a spinoff) he is not fueled with rage, he is not looking for revenge. He wantd to leave his previous life way behind and also this game takes at lesst 115 years after the 1st 3 games (when u enter tyrs vault it says that its veen under water for 115 years) he js way older and mature, and his voive has changed. A guy in his 30s sounds way fifferent in his 60s and kratod right now is a pretty much buffed 60 year old guy. On the combat it gets better once you beat a certain boss, it is pretty much basic and limited until you upgrade until almos max where your skill tree is now much bigger. Now to finish, this game sets up Ragnarok so yeah... we will have olenty of godkilling in the next game or games but remember that the 1st god of war and the second he killed less than 4 gods in 2 games (one was bh accident which was athena) in the 3rd one hell got loose and killed everyone and there Kratos esrned the title of god killer, if you cpunt the spin offs COO and GOS he killed 3 i think in those 2... so yeah. The game gets better as it goes, but you do make an excellent point i didnt see until now but i did felt at the begginign of the generstion which wss thay gaming was stucked and only a few titles were remarkable from an average standard which varied between a 3/10 and 6.5/10 in my opinion and orobably this is what we should have been getting. In my opinion I liked it about 8/10 since the other games their story was repetitive but the combay and brutalitu gave jt a 9 or 10/10

I absolutely love this game. I only bought it a week ago and I'm totally immersed in the world and it's use of Norse Mythology. I also prefer the combat to the original trilogy. I found the original trilogy combat repetitive by the time I got to GOW 3. But I do love Greek mythology more. I get your issues with elements of it, but definitely disagree with others. I enjoyed the RPG like progression and weapons and gear upgrades. On the hardest difficulty I came close to throwing my controller at my TV, which to me is a very good sign. The combat feels more visceral with the over the shoulder camera. Previous games made me feel like a passenger watching from the nose bleeds. The game does have issues though. Its annoying standing over a chest covered in tentacles, not knowing for the life you why you can't open it. Of course you'll come back later once you figure it out but the journey back will be long and tedious. There's also a lot more downtime than should be. I've found I can go well over an hour before I've fought anything. Which in an action game is far too long. I also agree that the balance of difficulty is odd. In the beginning the enemy is daunting AF, to the point Kratos feels impotent as an attacking threat but more than 10 hours in and I feel like I can choke Odin with my bare hands. I'm hoping the challenge will rank up as I've no doubt go much of the game left to play. But there's an unevenness there. All in all. For me this is a 9.2/10 so far. If the problems persist or new problems arise, the score will come down. However if I'm blown away by surprises in the story, combat, exploration etc. Then of course the score will go up. Videos like this are important. It's crucial that we are given different perspectives and more importantly, context to those perspectives. Which you have given here. Compliments where they were due and frustrations and disappointments are clearly expressed. You've still recommended the game by the end, so you're clearly not some random hater looking for attention and your candour should be welcomed. I would also recommend this game, two years late I know, but definitely worth buying now it's £11.99 in the UK, which is as cheap as it sounds lol. I'm sure it's just as cheap in the States. 👍🏾
