Moments like this really show how incredibly hard Kratos is. He is FAR beyond intimidation. You cant size him up cause he has faced titans the size of mountains, and you cant intimidate him with power and/or rule because he single handedly brought down an entire pantheon. When the 2 most powerful norse gods show up at his door, he doesn't stand down in the slightest. He even looks Odin right in his face and denies him. Something almost no one has the balls to do and for good reason. His bravery commands respect.

I love how Thor and Odin's true characters are shown in this opening scene. Thor, despite arriving in intimidating fashion, asks permission to come in, brings a gift as an offering, is courteous towards their home, places his weapon on the table as a sign of peace, speaks calmly and pours everyone's mead like a respectable guest - even though he knows a fight could break out at any point. Then Odin, despite his kind old conciliator persona, arrives and walks in without invitation, immediately makes himself at home, drinks all the mead, speaks passive aggressively as he immediately starts bargaining like a sleazy salesman, makes veiled threats towards Kratos and Atreus, and provokes Thor into attacking Kratos.

After clearing the game and seeing most of dialogues, I believe Thor was angry with Kratos for holding back, as Thor lowkey wanted to die, but in Norse Mythology if you don't die in glorious battle you don't go to Valhalla, you're a disgrace, Thor wanted someone to die, which is why in their second fight when Kratos submits him, he is like "What the fuck are you waiting for?" Thor without knowing was tired of Odin's BS and wanted to have some peace, even if it meant dying.

Takes another stool without asking and proceeds to sit at the table and drink out of both Thor's and Krato's cups while going on about peace. Kratos accepting Odin's offer of "peace" would just mean that he'd be under another God's rule. Odin's yearn for dominance is conveyed beautifully here. It's terrifying how neither of them were at their fullest during both fights, yet caused so much destruction. Mostly the first fight. First fight, Kratos was completely caught off guard and holding back, Thor was holding back as well to trigger the real ghost of Sparta and god of war from Kratos. Heck Thor even successfully killed/knocked out Kratos. Second fight, Thor was fully ready to kill but he must exhausted after fighting Jormungandr and possibly Surtr, but Kratos was holding back as well, trying to convince Thor to stop, also I guess you could say Kratos was exhausted as well if those lesser enemies made him break a sweat. Imagine if they had a third fight with a prepared and bloodlusted mindset with full energy.

7:55 10:43 13:27 I love these moments. I feel like despite Magni no doubt being Thor’s favourite son due to him being the strongest of the siblings and most like Thor I feel like he put a lot more power into his throw for Modi because I do feel like he’s in denial about it being his fault and he’s putting all the rage he has for himself into fighting with Kratos and Atreus.
@hightierscrub71662 жыл бұрын
Honestly I think the opposite as that's what Kratos was referring to. "Even in death you put him last." With Baldur, and Magni he hit Kratos hard. With Modi, he just threw his hammer, and it was something Kratos could react to/counter. Kratos basically said "You say you give a shit, but you still don't prove it."

I agree Thor is definitely in denial about his part in Modi’s death. At that time apparently it was more common to discipline children violently unfortunately, it is a way of supposed tradition in Odin’s family. Thor loved Modi all the same, unlike Odin who never loved him, or at least, loved himself more than his son. While we can interpret Odin’s killing of Thor as a psychotic reaction, it seems that he was genuinely distraught by what he did to Thor. The truth is, Odin had no use for Thor as he was dying in his face, but still he said that he didn’t want this, showing that he once loved him very much but the compounding of his paranoia and fear greatly exacerbated his feelings towards others, but it seems that Heimdall had his affections because he was intelligent.
@natecolb94792 жыл бұрын
@@justsomeguy747 I think Odin might’ve loved his children when they were young and he himself hadn’t been corrupted by his paranoia, brutal hunger for knowledge and the fear of his own death made Odin insane and eventually saw his children not really as his children anymore but more like his employees, especially Thor and Baldur which I find interesting as Thor gives Kratos a hit for Baldur as well in their battle, it may have been purely out of respect for his half-brother or for the possible reason he actually did love his brother, at least before he was driven insane by his loss of feeling. I think the Norse Gods in GoW are great and interesting characters, I wish Thor survived it would’ve been cool if somehow he and Kratos got to team up because that partnership could end several other pantheons.
