To be fair though freya is just an overprotective mother who just wants to protect her son at all costs while zeus is a jerk that denied him of the ignorance of kratos killing his own family, despite serving him for 10 whole fucking years, and then fear engulfs him which makes him KILL kratos.

Mega Pulsar Despite what God of War portrayed Zeus to be in 2 and 3, I'm gonna guess before Kratos opened Pandora's box of evils that Zeus wasn't as bad as he was then. In original Greek Mythology, Zeus was only a prick for his pride and him having bastard children by cheating. But when it came to his kids, he was actually very caring, besides to Hephaestus, depending on what you read. For example, Zeus had granted Artemis affiliation to things she didn't previously have, and he respected her choice to never marry. Zeus also split the elements of the universe among his brothers, powers that he could've took for himself, being the strongest, despite the youngest. So I think Mimir was talking about Zeus' selflessness in regards to his family.
@one-wingedangel5107
@one-wingedangel5107 5 жыл бұрын
Mega Pulsar Mimir seems to know something about Kratos even before he met him and Atreus. That Kratos has a secret, likely a dark past and hence why he washed up in Midgard which he was right. Then Kratos murmured Athena's name on the boat ride, the blades he retrieved were not from the nine worlds, his strength, endurance and intelligence that seems impossible for a mortal. So far Mimir could have deduced that Kratos is Greek, has met the goddess Athena, and served the Gods. The final puzzle piece was Kratos mentioning Zeus as his father. Mimir said it best when he finally put the pieces together. "I got it now! I'm dangling from the bloody hip of the Ghost Of Sparta!"

Many of us are overlooking Baldur's visions. He choked Freya yet struggled and let her live. In the final fight with Baldur, the reason Kratos let's him choke her as long as he did was to see if he would do the same thing again.. but he didn't. So he killed him so Atreus wouldn't witness a child killing his mother

Baldur would’ve killed Freya, gone mad from the grief and tried to kill Kratos and Atreus. He literally says in the fight that he would deal with Freya first but Kratos stops him, so either way would end with Baldur dead by Kratos’s hand with the only difference being whether Freya lived or not.

Exactly. Norse mythology is really big on being independant, and not relying on others. It's why Atreus gets so incensed when Modi mocks him saying his dad does all the work. So, to be constantly coddled by your mother and there's nothing you can do about it... It's a universal theme, the overprotective mother and they portrayed it so well.

People need to remember Freya's side of the story. She married Odin against the wishes of her people and was basically hated by them for it. Her and Odin's love was real at first, she had Balder, was the leader of the Valkyrie and was respected as a wise queen and fierce warrior. Eventually Odin's love faded due to his obsession with Ragnarok and he began to treat Freya horribly. Freya kept with it for the peace between the two realms but eventually Odin pushed to far and Freya left him. Enraged Odin cursed Freya so that she could never leave Midgard and return home. Odin also cursed her so that she could never harm any living being with either weapons or magic and also stole her Valkyrie wings and hid them which completely stripped her of her warrior status and spirit. Broken, the only thing Freya had left was the love for her son Balder. She learned of his fate of dying a pointless death and not wanting to lose the only good thing left in her life she put the curse on him without permission to save herself further torment despite the pain it caused him.
@WizelBalan

While this does not absolve her of her sins against Balder, I can sympathise with her decision no matter how misguided it may have been. All of Freya's losses in her life because of Odin probably caused her to go insane when it came to Balder.

I know, but that does not justify her action towards Baldur. Her love for her son clouded her judgement, so instead of giving her son happiness, she tortures him. You could argue that he would have done the same things regardless, but I really think it does impact the decisions he ends up making later on. Imagine spending your life trying to accept what you've done in the past and move on, to have it be shoved back in your face with illusions of your worst actions in perfect HD fashion for everyone to see and hear. That is what I call torture. And for someone like Kratos, who has spent years trying to move on from the mistakes of his pasts and the tragedies and horrors he unleashed on humanity with his vengeance, watching a reenactment of him slaughtering Zeus had to be the most terrifying thing to happen to him since almost losing Atreus. Also, as someone who's never played the original God of War games, and I only know what Kratos sounded like in GOW3 because I watched the remastered version on KZbin, this version of Kratos is the only one I know of and can really identify with, and therefore, if I heard the older version of Kratos speaking and it was a different voice speaking, I would be confused as fuck as to what was happening. But hearing the newer version of Kratos playing as his younger self saying "Face me, father! It is time!" lets just say there are few games that can give me that level of goosebumps, but God of War has done the almost impossible. Also, I'm glad Atreus saw what he did to Modi, because it made him realize he was becoming a different person after learning he is a God. He was becoming selfish, arrogant, and immature, in other words, he was becoming just like Modi. And for Kratos, who has wanted to do one thing, help Atreus learn humility, self control, and respect, seeing him become just like the Gods he spent years resenting and hating, that was as close to a nightmare as you could possibly get for him. It was good for Atreus to see what his actions wrought upon both him, Modi, and his father, because his actions did indeed have consequences.

In the end of GoW 3 Athena explained that when Kratos opened Pandora's Box he released evil that consumed and changed the gods including Zeus. Zeus awakened the feelings of fear, hatred and anger towards his own child and so decided to kill him. In his rage Kratos vowed for vengeance and destroyed everything in his path. After beating Zeus Kratos released those feelings from him and left behind a frail half dead Olympian who only realized what he had done. As Kratos was blinded by hatred he needlessly grabbed his father and brutally finished him off. Remember, no matter how a father acts, their children still love them. Kratos regretted giving into revenge and killing his own parent, although not as much as he regretted getting tricked by Ares into killing his first family against his will..

Baldur is one of the best villians in gaming history. I'll put him at my number 2 below sephiroth. It is so easy to feel bad for him: a god blessed with amazing powers but cursed to never feel anything and when he finally gets what he wanted he's blinded by vengeance just like younger kratos ( without the getting what he wants part) and so he forces kratos to kill him not enjoying the gift the miseltoe gave him. Freya was blinded by her love to her son to place such a curse on him. Living without being able to feel a thing is a fate much worse than death. At the end I really wanted him to live honestly.
