When I played Ragnarok the first time, I briefly wondered how they were going to top the opening of the last game, where we cremate our dead wife. And then they throw dying pet dog at us and I actually out-loud said "Oh that's not fair!" Like not everyone's lost a wife or mom, but everyone's had to say goodbye to a beloved pet. I knew we were in for something special/mean at that point. Ragnarok has so many fantastic scenes and moments, top three probably being Freya forgiving Kratos after she finally breaks Odin's curse, Brok and Kratos' conversation after Draupnir is forged, and Kratos saying goodbye to Atreus before seeing the final prophecy from Faye. Seeing Kratos regain his humanity after so long and finally find a modicum of peace felt so good for someone who's been playing him since the original PS2 games.
