Tyr is quite akin to Athena; true she's mainly know for being the goddess of wisdom, but she was the goddess of war as well, the protector of honor in war and honorable battles, while Ares was mostly the god of war's fury, chaos of war, and the destruction from it. Especially in his Greek variety, while as Mars, for the Romans, he was a less bloodthirsty figure, and the main protector of the Roman legions together with the bloodthirsty representation of war for the romans, the ancient goddess (probably of Italic origin) Bellona, which is directed connected with the Latin word for war, "Bellum".

When you see the real Tyr talk and compare to the fake one. It was clear to see which one is the real one. Like my first reaction of Tyr was quite disappointed cuz he was hyped up so much during the first game, but you see him as such a coward, you'd never think he'd lead an army. But that wasn't the real Tyr, that's how Odin viewed Tyr and basically made a mockery of him in front of his close friends. You would never think that was Odin, not until the reveal of course where it looks like Odin was losing his patience.

Tyr's character kind of reminds me of the movie "Hero." In it there is a discussion about the ideals of swordsmanship where the mastery of it inevitably leads to its abandonment. The first stage of mastery is combining man and sword as one, where even a single blade of grass can be used as a lethal weapon. The second stage of mastery is where the sword resides only in the heart and not the hand allowing a warrior to kill from 100 paces even without a weapon. The third stage of mastery is where the sword leaves both the hand and the heart altogether and the desire to kill ceases to exist, he embraces all around him and only peace remains.

So I'm playing through this a 2nd time and I noticed something with the subtitles. If you have it set to "speaker name: On" whenever Odin speaks AS Tyr its spell as "Tyr" but in this clip with the real Tyr it spelled as "Týr." Basically The little symbol above the Y is missing when its Odin speaking but its there when its the real Týr. I actually made a video on it if anyone is curious enough.

Kratos' redempetion is basically over. There is nothing else to tell nor something that leads u to it like the end of gow 3. He is basically staying in Midgard watching over for the realms peace. In the other hand, Atreus offers a great deal of possibilities in terms of story and gameplay. He is traveler from now on and as I see it. Perhaps gonna use Fenrir for it. Imagine the gameplay features you could have with Fenrir. Hope fanbase wont be that sttuborn to accept that Kratos need a rest.

Athena was actually much like Tyr. Ares represented a more violent side of war but Athena represented a more wise and peaceful resolution to it. Although Athena was not as "Zen" as Tyr is, she was still almost as peaceful. Both of course prefer negotiation over straight up combat but they aren't necessarily unwilling to the latter

Oh yeah? What about Freya? She literally has the title. Týr is the GoW for the Æsir, while Freya/Frigg is the GoW for the Vanir. I keep repeating this but there's like 5 war gods in the game. Odin, Thor and Heimdallr are also considered war gods without the title. Odin because he leads the Æsir and owns Valhalla, Thor because of his feats in battle, and Heimdallr is basically border protection which includes war time. 5 war gods in 1 game and not a single commenter knows that's how they work.

He claims he recognizes Kratos when you free him (which is only fitting- the man had a vase of Kratos among his collection in the previous game), but we never get to see him comment on how far the Ghost of Sparta seems to have come. It will be interesting that whatever pantheon will be the main one there, that there will actaully be several remnants of this pantheon still around (unlike the greek one). Actually now i think about it most of the pantheon is still around. And i truely hope we get to see Tyr a bit more in that. @@dafuqyoulookinatsmith3243 After some thought I think it means we are going to the Chinese Pantheon. NuWa is described as having a serpent body and Tyr is looking at where Jormy used to be. Musphelheim he's looking at the spark of creation, and NuWa is the goddess of creation itself. Vanaheim Tyr is doing Tia Chi. Alfheim he's looking at the light and Chinese mythology has a goddess of light as well Xihe. Only thing I can think of of Svartalfheim is the whale thing is a connection to Kun-Peng or to catfish. Best I can do off the top of my head.

I think it's nice that the game touches on the irony of a character's essence. Both Gods of War will do as much to prevent war. The Vanir Goddess who seeks the happiness of those she loves inflicts pain. The all-knowing All-Father can't even reach the answers he seeks.
