Yea there’s no way that the gowr thor would do that even when drinking. I believe they started to up thor as an unstoppable remorseless monster in 2018, the one people actually preferred, then retconned the character in ragnarok to be a daddy’s boy. I believe changing the game director had something to do with that. It was never explained well why thor would beat up modi like he was some kind of a tool if he is this somewhat of a caring parent. I think eric williams as a director is a big mistake. Kratos feels like a completely different character. I know people will say “cHaRacTeR DeVelOpmEnT” had something to do with that but there’s no way character development completely change the 2018 kratos into this disney-like kratos of ragnarok. I had my fears when eric williams is set to be the director and gosh damn i was right.

The thing is there's a book that is based before the previous game, in it Kratos tempers himself, Kratos knows he's a brute and a monster and takes to meditation and self-reflection. It's why "We Must Be Better" is one of the overwhelming messages of both games. The last time Kratos cut loose he brought an entire world into chaos. The only times we really see him get close to slipping back into his old ways are when Atreus is threatened. Atreus is his anchor. Atreus is the last piece of his wife, his reminder that he *must be better* .
