Also, I hope they touch more about the Gryla storyline, she's a character with a long history of suffering and loss, hope we can see more of her.

Norse mythology (like all mythologies) has a creation myth. All gods and humans come from Ymir, including those of non-white complexion. If vikings saw black people, they would've also thought they came from Ymir. It's not like vikings lived in a world where there weren't black people and its not like their mythology can't include things that they didn't know about (in fact, things people haven't seen is like 90% of mythology and religion). Also, Mimir being a fae from Scotland never bothered no one (in fact, it was praised) and it is just as unfaithful. Only difference to me seems to be skin color, and if that genuinely bothers you, well I got news for you brother.

Actually, it precisely is as if vikings did not live in a world with black people bar incursions in the Mediterranean, and Norse mythology is older than vikings themselves. I think the handling of the character here was done well, but it is obvious that they did this to fulfill a quota because everyone mildly knowledgeable of the topic and background knows it is not an authentic nor realistic depiction. People can be pissed about skin color while not being racist, especially when the intent for ethnic insertion is so obviously motivated by modern political discourse and it ditches historical accuracy or the historical identity that mythology is rooted in. I would expect Africans and black Americans to be bothered by a movie where a black character is turned white/Asian/pick whatever other ethnicity. Don't pretend it's just racist types complaining.

So it isnt a massive stretch at all so don't make assumptions for people who actually know the mythology and don't just presume things. Jotnar were described to come in all shapes, sizes and colour. Some green. Some with fangs.

How about you don't make assumptions for those that know the actual history of Norse cultures, Viking or Germanic or know what haplogroup analysis tells us about diversity back then. These people almost certainly never pictured a black person because they almost never or ever saw one until the fifth to sixth century AD at the earliest.

Actually that was Sigyn, the Aesir goddess he married and had two sons with. In some interpretations Angrboda is also his wife, in some she's his mistress, depending on how they want to portray Loki.

Look, I'm not saying I have something against her being black. In fact, it could have opened some creative doors. Like, she could be the daughter of a Giant with the African spider goddess Anansi (known for knowing all of the world's history), in order to give her a manipulative role in Atreus's story, similar to the one from the Greek Fates, and to explain, had the circle button been available, why her children were so horrific and powerful beings. And maybe that could have been her character arc. She's manipulative. Her grandma is manipulative. They were training Loki to be Odin's equal... But, could she live with herself ?
