When you think about the real world, every dictator kind of has their own personal or special forces to do their dirty work. Who are they? A person with feelings, personality, family, and loved ones. Yet, they are made into monsters because they are made to believe what was told to them is absolute and right by propaganda. Stalin didn't send somebody to Gulag by himself. Hitler never builds death camps by himself. It was all done by people who were told to do so.

Family, God of War doesn't miss. In Norse mythology, Odin is the obsessed psychopath and Thor is his lapdog. They gave us a sob story for Thor, but tbh, all of the characters are nuts. Zeus in Greek mythology is always just trying to bust a load. Odin is always obsessed with death. They are not the same and this series is amazing in keeping true to their stories.

So many of us men who grew up within a nation struggling with drugs and war, soldiers came home broken and with ptsd, and we healed overtime due to love and our children, like them, we became better. Even his struggles when he appeared weak, where he was actually fighting inside to release his rage or choose to be better, it breaks you down, but when ypu get through it, ypu are truly stronger! I honestly love how they depicted Thor in this game. In GoW 2018 all we heard were stories about how he was a mass murdering butcher. But in Ragnarok, we see him as a truly tormented and conflicted individual, essentially shunned and mistreated by his fellow Aesir and his father. It’s made pretty clear that Thor turned out the way he did because of Odin’s cruelty. He’s a mirror of what Kratos used to be, he’s essentially what Ares wanted Kratos to be.

It took Kratos going to a New World for him to finally change and not only that he was able to help move someone else to change and that was Thor. Thor felt wrong for all he did in the name of his father he didn’t have to stones to fess up to Odin about it. The way Odin talks kind of threw me off when I first played it since he doesn't talk in the same kind of prose or more classic manner of speech others use. He's just like "Hey, what's up? Nice day today huh? Heimdall, you're being kind of a dick, get out of here, yeah? You're seriously harshing the vibe." All the Aesir seem to talk like that, more modern. But Heimdall really gets on my nerves. He tries to act all tough like he's hot shit and could stand up to Thor. He probably assumes he could dodge all his hits like he does with everybody else, but Thor actually kept up with and eventually killed Kratos in their first fight, and Kratos, based on his fight with Heimdall, is fast enough to tag him, so Thor definitely would be. Heimdall likes to act tough but I wonder if he realizes just how much he flirts with death or at least significant injury whenever he tries to stand up or talk down to Thor.

"don't you know, WHAT I'VE DONE" is the saddest line in this game. it shows how Thor was manipulated by Odin and used for his power and God-killing capabilities. It shows how he felt about the situation. He was a good person inside.

15:26 | It’s actually impressive that Heimdall didn’t foresaw Thor intervening, I’ve seen a comment somewhere where he didn’t bother to dodge Thrúd’s last attack before Atreus stopped her from causing the final blow. Perhaps, like Kratos, he can alter the future? Since he’s an destroyer.

How is it also a redemption arc for thor if he was killed by odin in the final act? Yeah, he stood up to Odin and said no for the first time after he demeaned him and treated him like an animal when he refused to kill kratos, but he was killed before he could do anything else to actually kick started his redemption. I would have liked to see him die in the process of wounding Odin so kratos has an upper hand at the moment or keeping his daughter safe from Odin when he tries kill her to punish thor for refusing to do as he says, instead of “subverting our expectations”.

It’s clear that Thor felt like shet what he did to Modi. He was probably drunk and beat his own son for running away after Magni died. Blamed him for his death. And in the end he lost both his sons. So he made a promise to his family he stop drinking in honor of his lost sons and for the sake of his daughter. Poor guy couldn’t keep it after the mental abuse he takes from Odin.
