God of War Ragnorok Review NO SPOILER I completed the game; to put it simply, it’s fun and cool next gen game. The combat felt good, the variation of enemies was refreshing, and the takedowns were more gory and brutal in the old God of War way. Even though I wish there were more takedowns, it’s still great. It picks up where the last game takes off, and the game takes you on a wild adventure throughout. If there are any negatives, it’s minor. The game is incredibly long. If you are doing the main story, I looked up online; the game cutscenes alone take up almost 7 hours of game time, just the cutscenes. So combined with 12 hours of main story gameplay, that is a long ass game. I found the parts with Atreus personally dull because of how long the segments were, even with little narrative purpose. Atreus doesn’t have much depth to his gameplay, even with complete upgrades, and in those moments, you want to play as Kratos. So if there is any criticism, it would be length. I don’t know if the game needed to be this long, and to be frank, the narrative in God of War 2018 remains supreme because of the story of Kratos overcoming his regret and past during his brutal days as a God of War in Ancient Greece. Still, the help of his son and his companions helped him overcome his turmoil and fears; it was cleaner, not as stretched out, and to the point for me. Ragnarok had a lot of fat to trim in the main story, and even at times, the pacing and length got tedious, but overall, it’s still fine. It's not a narrative revelation that some people on social media are making it seem, but it's good for a video game. I know i'm stepping into heavy fandom with God of War fans, especially post 2018. I'll admit, i'm a classic God of War fan, with the original trilogy and still prefer that style over the heavy complex progressions system, gear scores, xp indicators, and health bar combat. But hey, it's modern gaming, so I have to put up with it. Think of God of War 2018 as a fine lean piece of sirloin steak and Ragnorok as a fatty smoked brisket with fat falling off the crevices. They are both delicious, but one is messier and takes more time to consume. Let me know what you guys think of it.

@Punch Down King I feel ya, It didn't have too many of those "boss" battles as I'd anticipated. But the story had so much closure and it was such a great conclusion at the end.

I honestly felt like this game should've been a expansion for the reboot, considering its basically a conclusion to the story. The game is pretty ok, but nothing groundbreaking in regards to story or gameplay, although I'm happy they gave Kratos a happy ending.

@Punch Down King I'm with you. The Atreus parts really put a pause to the pacing. The whole game your anticipating the great event of Ragnorok, but it only really takes up about a half hour or forty minutes of a near 20 hour storyline. If anything Ragnorok should've been like the entire half of the game. They focused too much on the sub narrative of Kratos coming to terms with Atreus becoming a man and god and learning to let him go, and also Atreus discovering that in order to be independent, he needs to carry the wisdom of his father to get him through his life. This is a great conclusionary theme, but it's emphasis detracts from the surface story which is, the great battle of Ragnorok.

@@nightcrawler763 Yeah, like I said, God of War 2018 is much stronger narratively, but this felt like a jampacked cluster of an expansion for the sake of concluding the Nordic mythology setting.

@@slygunslinger Essentially, hopefully they have more creative freedom in the next game.

I heard of a achievement you can earn by simply making your companions do all the work. If you can get them to defeat a boss without you doing anything.

Sly, got some game suggestions for you. Any chance you can get around to playing the Call of Juarez games? Specifically Bound in Blood and Gunslinger. They are western games with good shooting so they fit the theme of your Channel and you might enjoy them
