God of War Ragnarok Graphics Comparison: PS5 vs. PS4 vs. PS4 Pro

The long-awaited follow up to the stellar God of War (2018) is almost here, and there are a lot of ways to play the game. God of War Ragnarok will be launching simultaneously on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles. So whether you're up to date with a PS5 and want to see how Sony Santa Monica has utilized that extra hardware, or if you're still rocking a base model PS4 or even a PS4 Pro, this video should give you an idea as to what you're visually in for. Make sure to sound off in the comments how you'll be enjoying God of War Ragnarok!
All platforms captured were using version 1.003.000.
God of War Ragnarok has a lot of different graphics options to choose from. If you're playing on a base model PlayStation 4 or PS4 slim, unfortunately you won't get acesss to any visual options. The game still looks stellar, but when playing on that platform, you get what you get. However, owners of both the PS4 Pro and PlayStation 5 get a few more options. Both the Pro and PS5 allows user to select if they'd like to play the game in a mode that Favors Resolution, at the cost of a lower frame rate, or Favor Framerate, that smooths out the gameplay all while lowering the visual fidelity.

It’s hard to grasp the difference over a compressed KZbin video. I’ve got a ps5 and xsx and have done multiple comparisons between games on old vs new consoles and the differences in real time are very appealing on the eyes. Days Gone felt like a brand new game on ps5 compared to a ps4 pro. A few things these last few years caused this console generation transition to take longer than usual which is why we’re still getting games made for ps4 and upgraded with ps5. This will change soon and we will start seeing changes and features/gameplay elements that just wouldn’t be possible on old hardware. Until then the amount of backwards compatibility upgrades and the few current gen exclusives we have received have absolutely made the current gen machines worth it, and it’s only up from here. I’m just glad everyone will get to enjoy GOW Ragnarok

The real benefits of next gen are only the load times and faster fps performance modes. Even in larger screens, resolution differences aren’t that noticeable. No one notices those minute differences during gameplay anyways

It's impressive for a 10+ year old console because PS4 got released in 2013 but the hardware it's older than that, it's also sad because the developers had to do the game for the old gen first and then the current gen, that's why the design might feel outdated in a way but we need to wait another 2-3 years in order to see that improvement because cross gen games are going to go away by next year, in 2023 we are going to get games that are already made for cross gen but after that you better expect some improvement in graphics

So practically the only benefit of the PS5 from graphical perspective is that it can run the games at 60fps rather than 30fps, otherwise the graphics itself looks almost identical. That actually makes sense considering that the PS5's GPU is just slightly more than double the speed of PS4 Pro's GPU, so the math actually adds up.

If you want 60fps on PS5, this is the graphical limit. The console has the performance of something like an RTX 2060 Super, meaning 4k 60fps (native) is something the PS5 can´t handle at all at 60fps. Demon´s Souls did show it, it is either 4k30fps or 1440p60fps with some hiccups.

@@GraveUypo its nowhere near as glorious as R&C:RA or Demon's Souls that's for sure. Demon's Souls remake has moments where you forget you are playing a game. But at least this is the last crossgen title

My big take aways after this and the ps5 pro launch is that we really have peaked in terms of what the human eye can detect and appreciate when it comes to what is right in front of you on screen at a snap of a moment unless you are a hardcore foliage/tree bark enthusiast.

LMFAO in no universe should anyone intelligent be wasting money on an SSD for a PS4.....Im so sick of the misinformation that people keep spreading about SSDs. The PS4 was not designed to take advantage of an SSD nor does it, just because you might get a load screen that lasts 2 seconds less with an SSD than with an HDD doesn't mean anything.....Last gen machines were not designed in any way to take advantage of SSDs.
