In case anyone is wondering, the "path" that Kratos saw in the end in the hidden shrine is a future where people are worshipping and adoring him. He actually becomes the loving kind of God that Odin said he would never be and that's why Kratos was so emotionally stricken. He's only lived his life in fear or being feared

And Faye lied to her people, to Odin, to even Kratos and her son to make sure this future happened. It's why she was so secretive. She destroyed her own sons mural. Talk about defiant. Im not sure if you've played the Vanaheim crater side quests, but it turns out with her defiance, her rage, she was so much more like Kratos than he ever thought, She reprimands him not because she's better than him, but because she USED TO be him. And has come out the other end. Powerful stuff.

For me, that was really the moment Kratos was reedemed. After so much he has done, so many bad things (and i mean BAD, like the innocent people he killed in his quest for revenge), it didn't feel right that he would just get a clean slate and acted like nothing happened. Ragnarok really explored a side of Kratos that we would never have seen in Greece (the closest to this was in Ascension), and this really made me feel like a well deserved redemption

The reason they mention that Jormungandr looks different during Ragnarok is because it’s the younger version of Jormungandr that Atreus “birthed” in Ironwood. The Jormungandr you see throughout the first game and the first sections of this game is the older version that was already sent back in time from his fight against Thor.

God the story writing was SO good. Brok's riddle about the hole and how Sindri now has a hole in him because of his loss? And Mimir getting it when they see the funeral? Because the hole in Sindri's heart got bigger the more that got taken away. Spectacular set up and delivery. Tyr having been Odin the whole time and that's how he knew everything? Brilliant. The hints were so well hidden and Brok calling him out and accepting his death was just gut wrenching. Them changing their fate by breaking the familiar abuse was also beautiful. Odin's Obsession led him to ruin everything around him to pursue his goal, blind to everything he was causing for his own gain, and Atreus swatting all his excuses aside when he tried to gaslight and deflect onto everyone else and back onto them with 'No, you did this yourself', was so well done. Kudos to the writers and the voice actor for making Odin such a brilliant villain. And for the final panel, for Kratos alone, to see that he will create (Unity, a new home, etc) instead of destroying, was just wonderful. Kratos gets to break those chains after everyone told him he wasn't worth anything (Much like Odin and abusive parents.) There was an excellent theme of breaking cycles and abuse here, and Faye choosing to destroy the ending so they could write their own *thinking* they were always following a path was also brilliant. Choosing our future despite everything saying we won't is also a whole part of breaking cycles. God. What a game. What a Journey with Sean. Thanks for taking us with you! I'm going to wander around wondering what to do with myself now.

I think you need to have a look at the story and reassess this point. Tyr being Odin did not make sense and was just there for subversion, why would the incredibly smart Odin slip up like 3 times? Odins obsessions with an unexplained being behind an unexplained realm tear behind an unexplained mask. Ragnarok being 20 mins long without dwarves or the army of the dead (budgeting issues). Thor being a whiny little bitch and Odin getting killed by SINDRI. No scenes reconciling with Sindri after, even though it was his fault Brok didn't get to experience his LIFELONG DREAM. The story was all over the place - Kratos has changed, a wait no he hasn't he mashes Heimdalls head in, ok so will we see scenes of Kratos battling with himself about reverting back to his own ways? No just some dialogue. Asgard being a small village with no explanation because "Odin is humble and good". Why do they want sympathy for ODIN AND THOR, to megalomaniacs and a genocidal racist war machine that gives up and gets battered in 2 fights. No massive fight between Thor and Jorm, just a big hit and poof he's gone. Its like the devs were terrified of making a scene really cool and epic despite that first Thor fight. Why build up 2 massive and terrible characters to then just have them killed in the most lacklustre way possible. Every bad guy nowadays has to have some level of good in them, even Thor, yaknow that guy who killed an entire race because they were a different race, but oh wait! He is trying to be a good dad! Overall - Gameplay 8.5/10, Story a disappointing 6/10. Story was basic "I want to overt my death and find out what happens after it".

Fate in Norse is different from fate in Greece. Kratos changed fate the moment he arrived in their world, and he changed fate again when he chose to change as a person, but he wasn't necessarily destined to be there or be relevant at all for that matter, if Baldur had just left him alone fate would have spun as intended

The fact that Faye betrayed her people to push forward an alternative Ragnarok prophecy, where Kratos not only survives but becomes a God loved and revered by the people, a Rebuilder/Protector rather than a Destroyer/Killer, just goes to show how much she loved him. Apparently, there's a reason why Thor was killed so simply after he sent Jormungandr back in time. Back in the first game, Kratos threw the Leviathan Axe into the lake of the nine to summon Jormungandr, who spit it back at him imbued with Eitr. Eitr is the norse word for Jormungandr's poison. That's why the first cut from Kratos and Thor's battle never healed, and why he continued to be vulnerable during their fight.

I think one main thing that might have been the case with "Sif suddenly changing her opinion" is that she was actually talking about Odin to Thor. When she was talking about Magi and Modi, she was talking about how Odin didn't care. How Odin threw them at his problems. When Odin refused to arrest Atreus, she attempted to have Thor see that Odin didn't care about protecting them. To try and turn Thor against Odin because Thor never stood up to him (you can even hear her saying that while Atreus was eavesdropping on their conversation). Part of her speech may have been directed at Atreus, but I think most of it was really at Odin and trying to make Thor see him for who he really is.

The final panel shrine I think can be interpreted in tons of ways but I like to think the most satisfying ending is kratos thanks to his actions went from the Greek god of war To the Norse god of peace Which like holy fuck what a journey if that’s what they intended
@Law10205
@Law10205 9 ай бұрын
I agree with that, the god of war side of him destroyed the Greek pantheon, but the god of peace side of him essentially saved the Norse pantheon along with all the realms (besides Asgard ofc) by killing Odin and other evil characters, and thus making him a god that people can worship and love due to his actions, instead of fear
@logeyperogi1805
@logeyperogi1805 8 ай бұрын
I don’t like calling him the God of Peace, because peace cannot be permanently upheld I rather like to believe he’s still the God of War, but he’s that for a new pantheon He’s pretty much the same as Tyr was, and Tyr was still a God of War Plus…God of Peace sounds so fucking lame, be real here, would you really feel threatened if someone introduced themself as the God of PEACE? Would you feel even reverent? I know I wouldn’t But a God of War is a lot better, it holds power and impact, and if they’re a god of war like Tyr and Kratos, then they’re worthy of reverence, because despite their position as a war god, they still revere and advocate for peace Just how I feel though

The riddle Brok gives Mimir during their journey, "what gets bigger the more you take away" had such a big payoff that I sincerely did not expect. I thought that it was just a throwaway line at the time which was supposed to show that Mimir isn't infallible in his intelligence, highlighting that there is still stuff in the world that he doesn't know about. But boy was I wrong. Near the end of the game when Brok is killed by Odin, Sindri rants to Atreus, berating him for taking everything, their skills, their friendship, and their home. And finally for taking away Sindri's family too. This line hits really hard for me, I never really thought of Sindri and Brok as more than side characters, people involved in the story to help the main characters on their quest. That's why I never even considered how much Sindri and Brok gave without receiving much in return. At this time in the story, Mimir tells Atreus to not take the words to heart, dismissing them as words said out of anguish and nothing more. But even after time passes and Sindri gets his revenge, he still feels the same way as he did before. At Brok's funeral, he leaves in anger and despair, still harboring the same resentment towards Kratos and Atreus as before. After Sindri leaves, Mimir finally figures out the answer to that riddle that Brok had posed so long ago. A hole gets bigger the more is taken from it, and that's what Sindri has become. A hole was opened in Sindri's heart the first time Brok died, and it kept getting bigger the more Sindri kept giving up to Atreus and Kratos. And finally, his one comfort and joy in life was taken away too. With this final realization of the answer to Brok's riddle, Mimir finds out he was wrong in more ways than one. Sindri's words may have been said out of grief, but they weren't wrong in any regard. Kratos, Atreus, and Mimir may have viewed Brok and Sindri as family, but they still took more and more away from the blacksmithing pair, finally culminating in the death of one of them. And that's a mistake that can never be taken back.

For me personally, not a lot of the dialogue is throwaway as it shows bits and pieces of personality, story and lore. But my god was that a great setup from the narrative team from Santa Monica. The leadup to figuring out the riddle, joking and teasing about how it could be a meaningless joke, until it wasn't. It kept getting bigger and bigger until there's nothing you can do to fill the hole Brok was insinuating at. This game is my Game of the Year 100%
@RobertPerez862
@RobertPerez862 Жыл бұрын
I agree. In the first game, Sindri and Brok didn't like each other. Sindri was probably okay with it because he probably didn't want to get attached again. He probably said bad things about Brok because he didn't want to get hurt again. When he brought Brok back to life, he probably realized what he did was wrong, for he had brought Brok back to life out of his own selfish desire to not lose him and not respect his brothers passing. When Sindri started working together with Brok again, he probably thought he wouldn't lose his brother again and that it would be safe for him to become attached to him again. There isn't anything wrong with that. I just think it's hitting him harder now because it's the 2nd time, and this time Brok died to Odin. I think Brok mentioned how he didn't like that Sindri was doing his best work for Odin. Sindri helped create Thors Hammer, which led to a lot of destruction. In summary. Sindri is through a lot more guilt. This is the 2nd time he lost his brother. He doesn't know who to blame except those who helped bring them back together again. This is just my perspective on it. I'm pretty sure it could be wrong in some parts, if not all.

I think the problem with Sif is that during the scene where she makes Thor try to kill Atreus, she's actually trying to convince him to go against his father, and since Atreus was being kind of his new friend, Thor with his big dumb brain tried to kill him first to stop Odin from completing the mask quest
@Khotetsu
@Khotetsu Жыл бұрын
I agree, Sif knew that Odin was an abusive asshole who had ruined her and Thor's family for years, and it sounded like she had tried multiple times to get Thor to go against his father. So when Atreus comes along, being Odin's new friend, she is immediately against him, and against him befriending her daughter, especially with the history between her family, Atreus and Kratos, and the Giants. But she's not against Atreus specifically beyond past grudges and him following Odin's orders, and you can see even when Atreus tries to talk to her alone about Thrud, that she knows what he says is true, she just doesn't want to admit it to him. It makes complete sense for her to side with Atreus in the end, the issue is simply that we never got the time to see the where and when that decision took place, like we did with Thor at the end of Kratos' fight with him, and I blame there just not being enough time during the back end of the story arc for that to take place. There was simply too much happening to be able to take time to check in on someone who had really only been a minor character we mostly heard more than we saw through Atreus listening through the bedroom door, and so her convincing Thrud that Odin needs to be stopped feels sudden and out of place.

I love the fade to black into credits. The series has technically been one entire cut in terms of camera, from when you fade from black to the start in 2018, to the end of Kratos's story, to the fade to black after the funeral. It really solidifies that its done. Kratos has no more to do, and if we see more from God of War its gonna be with Atreus. Absolute masterpiece of a series

My two cents why Sif seems like she switched up so quickly: she never really hated Atreus she loathed Odin but because Atreus was helping him and had special privileges/treatment - something Sifs’ own husband could only ever dream of - by extension she hated Atreus. But on the the battlefield, seeing how Atreus was resolved to fight against Odin, save the innocent and his refusal to fight Thrud while still considering her a friend, Sif understands that Loki isn’t deserving of the scorn and accepts to be allies instead.

That is exactly how it was intended. The only one who ever changed their stance in the matter over the game was Thrud and Thor, with both of them realizing they were deceived. Everyone else in their family either stayed loyal to Odin, or always hated Odin and anyone who aligned with him.

@@d34dstruck13 Misdirection of anger. A common occurrence amongst dysfunctional individuals, and a common story amongst those who find themselves close to suffering alcoholics. Sif in that scene is absolutely trying to get Thor to shake loose from Odin's manipulation - to get him to see that Odin is a bad influence on him, and that Odin got his sons killed. Like sure, Atreus and Kratos delivered the killing blows, but Odin was the one to put them in that position in the first place. And Thor *knows it*. Thor drinks because there is a huge problem in his life that hasn't been solved, that he wants to solve - a problem that kills his sons and splinters his family and humiliates him regularly. In those moments of awareness, nothing is more important to him than his family and he would give anything to protect them, to solve his problems and better his life and their life. But he's too crushed under the weight of Odin's thumb and bowed under Odin's manipulation to solve the actual problem. So where will all this frustration go? In that scene, it was directed at the next best thing: Atreus. A child who he doesn't actually blame for his son's deaths, nor for whom he holds any real anger, but finds the slivers of excuses that allow him to hate anyways. Its only a glimpse into the daily lives of some of the people with broken lives who crawled into a bottle to find solace. And its scary.

And that is exactly what Kratos chooses to do as well. Be better. The writing is so amazing, but eveyone keeps being blinded by theories.

Like his conflict would be him actively trying to make the mortals lives better rather than reluctantly getting dragged into saving them Greek Kratos was a vengeful monster god, Norse kratos for the most part is an apathetic regretful self loathing god and in the future he can finally be the just, competent and humble god that all mortals want their gods to be, the full superman archetype package with a kind friendly face, white beard and colorful skin as he finally forgives himself for his wife and daughter's deaths

Little detail that most people missed: ANGRBODA PAINTED THE LAST PANEL! You can tell by the colours and the way it differs slightly in style to the previous artworks you see. When you first get to Jotunheim as Atreus, there is one set of paintings she won't tell you about. She only says she's still working on it! Because that part of the future had not been decided yet. It was always in your hands. 😭

@@Vazel I’m seeing this everywhere and it doesn’t make sense. That’d be like me telling you tomorrow your friend, John Smithson will be hit by a car and instead the car hits Smith Johnson. It was obviously an incorrect prediction/ prophecy. The person in the mural was always intended to be Kratos; he has the tattoo; it doesn’t matter how much the final scene with Odin in his arms was reminiscent; the prophecy was wrong 🤷‍♂️

@@darknight991 Well if u think about it, Odin also has tatoos. They are not as big or coloured red but still they are tatoos so maybe they got the prophecy somewhat right but that was the part they definitely made a mistake somehow.

@@darknight991 I don't know if this makes sense or anything, but Angrboda said that prophecies don't change as in the events happen but details can change, thats kinda what happened with Kratos dying by Thors hand (he kills and then reanimates Kratos when they fight for the first time), Surtr becomes Ragnarok on his own instead of combining with Sinmara (it wasn't how prophecy described it but it happened), I am not sure about the Jotunheim mural, for me its not just reminiscent, it is exactly the same as shown in the mural except instead of Kratos it was Odin, I suppose you could drag it down to other examples even though it is much bigger of a change than any other, who knows honestly, thats how I like to interpret it anyway

ngl I don't blame Sindri for having such a harsh reaction every time he sees Kratos after Brok's death - Kratos is literally decked out head to toe in armor that Brok and Sindri made. It's just a reminder of how much they gave to Kratos and Atreus while getting nothing but loss and destruction in return

I don't blame him cause that's what grief does but I feel he's more angry at himself than anything because when he got Brok's soul back the first time, he essentially denied him an afterlife. It's just that sort of anger is gonna extend toward others even if they had no intent of it happening

@@CoolCat35 that’s not the point at all. It was a mutual relationship. Kratos never seeked them out or asked them for anything. They insisted that they help Kratos upgrade the axe and forge him armor.

kratos going from a cold-hearted man to a man that's 100% capable of giving love and being vulnerable is impressive and I'm glad they gave kratos the ability to feel emotions.

What I find more incredible is the ending. Kratos being a God who can be worshipped and loved truly defines his change. Being a God with no worshippers and hated for the death and destruction; then changing to a God that fought for the sake of realms of people to kill a manipulative and world ending God shows his change. "We must be better" shows the main theme of the story completely.

Although i love what they did with Kratos, but like, he always had the capacity to feel emotions. He legit tried killin himself because he was so upset and broken over all his torture?!? He stripped himself of all of his power to stay with his daughter in elysium. And then regained those powers and had to leave his daughter behind. HE WAS VERY EMOTIONAL THEN TOO

Sif was against you because she was wondering why you were working for Odin. Someone she expected would be opposed to Odin suddenly seemingly working for him, and the fact that Odin seemed to be showing such respect towards you while treating her family even worse when you were around. Plus the fact you were encouraging her daughter to become a Valkyrie AKA yet another of Odins lapdogs. That was why she seemed very cold to you earlier.

Also worth noting that Sif never said to hurt Atreus/Loki, she told Thor to look at what Odin is doing. Thor is the one who took that as "kill Atreus/Loki"
