If anyone’s curious H.H Holmes was a serial killer who near the end of his “career” built a large hotel that he designed himself. While the reports of complex traps and torture rooms are not confirmed it was made to confuse and discombobulate victims making them easier for him to kill.

After coming from God of War's incredible facial animations and voice actors, this game has nestled itself comfortably into the uncanny valley.

That was my very first thought. After just watching Sean's 30 hours of the recent God of War, the voice acting and visuals in this game seem very bad in comparison. Not terrible on its own, but it's a tough comparison.
@Solar_Sounds

@@SeanSeesAdventure People seem to think the acting is bad in some of these games, It's not. I think because the dialogue itself can be rough, along with the facial animations screwing up, it makes you feel the performance is less believable, but when you just listen to them talking, the acting is good. Hell, Jesse Buckley is an award winning actress.
@caitlin4598

@@Solar_Sounds Same, I think the writing or the direction, or both, are what is messing up the voice actors. Some of the lines are just badly written, and emphasis is put in weird places that I feel like you would have to be told to do, it wouldn't come naturally because it doesn't sound natural.
@jefftwentyone9620

Yeah, it's obviously rushed and on a budget but the main problem for me are the eyes and head tilting, the actual facial animation could look good without the dead fish eyes and over exaggerated head movement.
@TheOneAndOnlyTed
@TheOneAndOnlyTed Жыл бұрын
@@jefftwentyone9620 The eye's are definitely one of the biggest issues. Usually the face tracking doesn't pick up eyes very well and they have to animate them separately from the motion data. It sorta looks like they just skipped that in this instance, but it really brings down the rest of the performance.

I’ve done indie film work and they only get one take for two different scenes and hurry themselves along. No wonder they seem to be having issues. Also I’m just baffled they question nothing. It’s a game, and you need victims and bodies and smart people or just perspective people would’ve caught all the early warning signs and ceased the plot. But still, they seem too oblivious, too trusting, too lax with everything. Those kind of characters in horror situations like these are so annoying and eye rolling.

So do I. It'd be so much more unique and could actually have the real serial killer more involved. I guess it would bring up the issue of survival or his capture but it probably could be played about with, maybe have playable characters around the time he was caught and if he messed up and one in real life got away have that character there and unable to die or something. It'd more fun that way I think.
@lonelyguyofficial8335
@lonelyguyofficial8335 Жыл бұрын
@@bethanbaker7066 Yeah, I agree. And I just think that, it's not always necessary or more fun if something is set in our modern day. Like, I get it. "What if titanic sank today?", or "What if Abraham Lincoln died in our time?", "What if this and that were set in 20XX?" But like, it's partly the fact that it didn't happen in our time that makes it fun. Playing a game set in the 1800s, where it was WAY easier to get away with murder as opposed to our modern detective technology, that's the excitement for us. We never experienced that time period, and a serial killer hotel, in the 1880s? That's what makes it more scary. We truly do get the feeling that this serial killer is almost divine. A serial killer hotel in the 1800s, with the limited technology they had back then? Moving walls, trap doors, death rooms? And the less advanced detective methods, where even if they caught him, he might JUST get away? A game! A game! And here we get a modern version of the story. Like yeah, duh. Obviously, with our modern technology there'll be moving walls, mm impressive (not.), oh and trap door? Yawn. Oh those are the death room over there? Where's the bathroom at? Listen, unless you can genuinely make it more interesting in the modern world, and take away our familiarity with it, there is no good reason to change the setting of the game over a lazy "What if?" They really should remake the game to be in the 1800s. Heck, just change the skins, if you're so lazy!
@bethanbaker7066
@bethanbaker7066 Жыл бұрын
@@lonelyguyofficial8335 I feel like it would be a fascinating idea if you had to not only survive if the game was set in the 1800s but also collect evidence so in your endings it'll tell you who lived but also if you could help the police catch the killer or not and if not it could show you a different sort of ending with new victims or the killer just having disappeared. I also completely agree about the modern day thing being bland, I too understand why it might be interesting but I just think we do get too many modern games and also setting in in the 1800s could make it more realistic to how the serial killer works because I feel like in the end the police would have gotten suspicious about all the disappearances in the modern day.

We go from the great facial capture and fine tuning them in post that we've seen in both Until Dawn and The Quarry and back to the robotically animated faces of uncanny valley samey beady eyes as the devs clearly cut corners by reusing base face model assets.

So, Marie actually existed in real life. That dialogue between her and Jeff in the beginning is based off an actual couple. I remember it from the book "The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson (fantastic book btw). They were genuinely that excited to be together, it's rough reading what happens to Marie. Even the fake flirting they do at the jewelry case is correct!

Fun fact H.H. Holmes didn't actually have this massive hotel filled with spooky traps and different SAW like rooms. He did have a hotel, the World's Fair Hotel. He did have secret rooms and twisting hallways and secret doors BUT it's because he was a conman. And he would use those rooms to hide away his conned things. He would also steal from the guests that stayed in the hotel. BUT he very much was a serial killer and didn't kill a couple hundred people as the common belief tells but he did kill a handful. At least 3 and he's suspected to have done more. He was a conman, business man, and he wore many hats to blend in. He travelled all over the US. If you're interested, do look into his real history and what really happened because it's arguably a lot more interesting then this SAW style hotel. Actually now that I'm thinking about it... Maybe not as interesting as the SAW style hotel but it is fascinating and there's a lot to learn from his story. A lot of scary details and a lot of things people can learn from him and how to avoid people like him.

@@samantha8320 Because there's no evidence for hundreds of people. There was only enough evidence to pin the murders of around 4 people and suspected to be a few others as well. well, it's important to know a lot of the stuff they say holmes did in this is heavily fictionalised, as in real life, we don't think holmes killed the amount of people he claimed to have killed (he was only arrested for one murder, his business partner), and we're pretty sure the murder hotel thing never quite worked out the way holmes wanted it to, i believe because he couldn't pay back any of the workers. a lot of the stuff claimed about the murder hotel was exaggerated and dramatised by the tabloids at the time.

At the start when the game showed the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, then a hotel, my history buff wheels rolled into motion. I then remembered about the story of America's first serial killer Henry Howard Holmes, by whom, owned a hotel and killed guests over time. It was a while before it was found out and many died. Also another fun fact about that World's Fair, Theodore Roosevelt was in the area and he was still skinny.
@SapphireShelle91
@SapphireShelle91 Жыл бұрын
Oh...wow... Yeah, Sean, H.H.Holmes was a very real guy. ***I'll just preface that below was written right near the beginning of the episode, so a lot of the information I wrote below is spoken about around 25 minutes into the gameplay*** H.H. Holmes was a serial killer in the 1890s (considered to be America's first serial killer) who confessed to murdering 28 people - many in truly horrific ways in his infamous hotel, dubbed the "Murder Castle" (the design of this hotel was insane (it no longer exists it was burned to the ground sometime after Holmes death. I don't believe the arsons were ever caught, but I may be wrong), it looked on the outside as having only three levels, when actually it had several floors including a morgue. There were secret passages ways, and room of different sizes, used as torture chambers, gas chambers, trap doors and so on.) Some of his victims were women who he had affairs with or married and would then murder once he gained access to their money. While other victims were tourists, some visiting for the World Fairs. But it is believed he could be responsible for murdering over 200 people because so many people who are listed as having visted Chicago around that time only for them to then go missing) He was eventually caught 1894 due to lot of reasons, families of victims catching on that his hotel was the last place their loved ones were seen alive in, Holmes screwing over (aka murdering) his "best" friend during a con (Holmes was also a huge con artist) which set the friends wife to contact the police because she was in on the scam and when her husband didn't come home she was became mighty sus (Holmes also had, i think, 3 of her kids with him and she wanted them back - they were sadly murdered by Holmes). Holmes was found guilty of 28 murders in 1895 and then executed via hanging in 1896. Holmes neck did not break when he was hung, and it took around 15 minutes for him to die from strangulation. Though prior to his death Holmes always seemed calm and collected, he did request that once dead, that his coffin be lined with cement and he be buried 10 feet deep because he worried that grave robbers would dissection his body (which is laughable considering the things he did to his victims bodies once they were deceased. One of his cons was to supply university with skeletons... three guesses where he got his skeletons from) There is also a theory that he might have been Jack the Ripper because he was in London during the time of murders and had the surgical knowledge to remove organs (he trained to be doctor) with the precision that was shown with Jack's murder victims. However this is only a theory, obviously, there is no actual proof that Jack the Ripper and H.H.Holems are one and the same. Long story short, H.H.Holmes is a real piece of work and a lot of innocent people died because of him and his hotel, so its a little disconcerting to be watching a game with him in it.

Keep in mind the following info comes from Wikipedia so it could be taken with a grain of salt, but personally I think it's more believable. Holmes did not murder over 200 people, he didn't even murder 28. He for sure murdered that friend during a con and probably murdered 8 people, wife and daughter included, but the guy was a con artist and a huge liar (maybe even pathologically), and some of the people he claimed to murder were verifiably alive. His "murder castle was not some murderous maze/saw trap, it was barely even a hotel. There was a floor for businesses, some apartments on the second floor, and his "hotel" on the third floor, which was never finished, though he told investors it would be by the time of the world's fair (again, this guy was a massive con artist). Though it did have some hidden rooms, they were apparently just used to store furniture that Holmes didn't pay for, and not gas chambers and torture dungeons. He did sell cadavers to medical students, but they were mostly from grave robbing. Most of the stories of the gas chambers and torture rooms came from sensationalized news articles (basically just early clickbait) and false reports. It didn't help that Holmes himself was largely unreliable in his testimonies.
