Kyōkotsu (also nicknamed Okyō) is one half of the manifested spirit of Shunsui’s Zanpakutō, who’s known for hide & seek games, and therefore hid the Ise clan’s sacred ritual sword. The Divine Zanpakuto SHINKEN HAKKYOKEN (Divine sword eight mirrors) It is a Holy sword that has the ability to take and reflect the power of deities into itself and disperses it off into eight directions. The blade itself reflects the power of the opponent that its wielder is facing; when confronted by the sword while utilizing a great enough power, opponents are unable to even see it due to how bright it appears to be at the time. A blow from the sword results in energy being dispersed in multiple directions at once. This ability was foreshadowed upon Lille Barro with Senjimaru’s Bankai which showed him shooting at mirrors and ended up shooting himself reflected upon him. Tragically as Nanao’s mother believed and assured that only members of the Ise clan would be affected, giving it to Shunsui as her nephew affected everyone precious to him: His brother, Yamamoto, Unohana and Ukitake.

The team did a really great job at adapting this episode. Shunsui truly does carry so many burdens & he’s lost so many people. His brother, sister-in-law, mentor/father figure & best friend are all gone & now he has the responsibility of carrying the weight of the entire soul society as head captain. Being able to actually support his niece without losing her must mean the world to Shunsui after all the heartbreak he’s endured. There’s going to be more sadness (mixed with bitterness & regret) coming up in the last few episodes so get ready for that! Oh! Congrats on reaching 300k subs, btw! Y’all deserve!!

I really like Lille's final form. He's first Sternritter given powers by Yhwach(God's Hebrew name), his Trompete(The Seven Trumpet of Judgment in Revelation), and the form itself(angels are creatures that actually look monstrous, hence the "Be not afraid" line whenever one of them appears)Just love all the Biblical references here.

Shunsui is such a great character dude. Kubo has done such a brilliant job at progressively peeling back his layers over the course of each arc. Imo, he's the gold standard for the "laid back character with a tortured soul" archetype.

Ugh! I just remembered that the einherjar were brought into Valhalla so they could fight and die during the day and be revived every evening in order to train for Ragnarok. That’s going to be annoying if that’s Gerard’s power. But, at least he probably won’t go full eldritch horror like Ywach and Lillie. If Senjumaru’s weavings were accurate prophecies, then he’s either going to fight Rukia or Toshiro. And if his powers are of the einherjar, then the only way to stop him is to encase him in a glacier so that he doesn’t actually die, but can’t fight anymore.

One thing to note is 3rd Stage Vollständig Lille was actually acknowledged by the Shinken Hakkyoken as a God. That’s actually quite a big deal. Like Gods aren’t really explained much in Bleach however the Unmasked guidebook has mention another person who reached the level of God. And that person is none other than Hogyoku Fusion Aizen. Like here’s the section directly from Unmasked 神の高みへ 藍染は霊王になり代わり、新しい世界を創造する。その崇高な目的を果たす"使者”として、自分は神の域にある存在という意識が芽生えた。 Towards the Heights of God Aizen wanted to become the Soul King, and create a new world. As the "emissary" to accomplish that sublime goal, his awareness sprouted of that existence, a being that exists on the level of God. So in Bleach it’s heavily implied that Gods are essentially referring to the transcendents like Hogyoku Fusion Aizen, Dangai/True Zanpakuto Ichigo, Ichibe, Yhwach, etc. And after entering his final form Lille has also supposedly managed to enter the realm of transcendents this episode based on how the Hakkyoken blade functions by only reflecting the powers of those whom it considers a God.

I don’t think they could have used these powers if Ywach hadn’t been able to awaken the Almighty. If Ichibe had managed to kill him before it was safe to awaken his full power, then it might’ve ended there… or Ywach would’ve blown up like a supernova destroying the vicinity because of how unstable the power was.

I think they could after Juha used Auslwhalen but Squad Zero just never pushed them to meet the requirements. For example they never got Lille to open his eyes 3 times.

Another stellar episode for this cour, we've been getting greatness back to back and no misses. You love to see it. Heartbreaking to see what Shunsui had gone through and just as sad to learn of the Ise family. Very tragic on both parts. On the flip side, really great to see Nanao's zanpakuto and learning some lore behind it

They both lost to their own powers basically. The Left Hand stands for progression and it lost to whatever that was inside Nemu and it progresses your body cells in an insane speed. Lillie Barro also lost to his godly light and Trompete, which is a reference to the Bible as well as his Owl form.
