@@Barnacle I consider it scrapped because the songs from gods country that were kept are completely different, also the aesthetic was different. its def not, the license isn't allowed for large record labels. It was for sale for independent artists. I just bought a license for that song. If Kanye were to use it it would go against the contract from Kingsway.

Unpopular opinion but the lack of perceived ‘effort’ and the iPhone recorded vocals are what makes JIK so good. Instead of making some epic magnum opus with the choir like I and others were expecting he stripped it back and made something so raw and hastily put together that not even he had done it to that degree yet

I think what threw a lot of people off, myself included, was to have Kanye’s brash style of rapping combined with Gospel music. It’s like that feeling of having one of your friends do a freestyle rap in church, and you’re just hoping and praying he doesn’t accidentally let out a few swear words. And I think that’s what made the record odd. But you get used to the pureness of it after a few listens. Donda however, is the natural progression of that, and I think it’s a style that best combines his brash sense with his new rebirth. Plus the fact that he took out the swear and n words out of the final version, means you can play all these hard songs like Off the Grid at church. So in a way, no way could Donda exist without Jesus is King.

I agree with your appreciation of Jesus is King. It’s actually one of my favorite Kanye albums. I pretty much enjoy all the tracks save for Hands On. I just can’t get into that track. But even the track Closed on Sunday I have found enjoyable. It used to be a skip for me. But not anymore. I love the tempo and vibe. The rest of the album is fire. And it compliments “ye” really well. I usually play them back to back to give me an experience that equals the length of a regular album but instead I get two short yet really strong albums.
@k-dawgwestmore46433 жыл бұрын
The hook on Closed on Sunday is corny but the verses are super deep and powerful
@okwals97343 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know I'll sound crazy, but JIK is definitely in my top 3 Kanye albums (and I even think it might be my #1). I guess it's probably largely because I was lucky enough not to hear the Yandhi leaks before hearing JIK. I genuinely love the album, partially due to its short length (I just like shorter albums more), and I guess the fact that I'm a Christian myself makes the lyrics more relatable to me. I do agree though, 'Hands On' is one of the tracks that I liked the least, but I feel like it's still pretty solid. Honestly, my biggest issue with the album is that Kanye took off Cudi's verse from 'Everything We Need' (even after changing the theme of the track a bit, that verse would still fit there just fine).
@k-dawgwestmore46433 жыл бұрын
@@okwals9734 Dang bruh, Hands On is one of my favorite songs from that album. I love how he starts off that song talking about police brutality so you’re like “Oh Hands On is about the police putting their hands on innocent people” but then the song ends with “But I have a request, you see/Don't throw me out, lay your hands on me/Please, pray for me” Really powerful subversion imo
