Can you please address how people use Isaiah 53 to support the theory of Penal Substitutionary Atonement, but how that would be an incorrect understanding of what is taking place (i.e. thinking of Jesus as a scapegoat instead of recognizing Him as the Lamb of God as the righteous blood of the passover lamb on the day of Atonement covers the sins).

The NASA lunar eclipse information indicates that a partial lunar eclipse occurred on April 3, 33 CE with peak totality happening at about 16:47:51 local time in Jerusalem (14:47:51 UT).

Yes. You are actually supposed to pray the psalms is there is no priest or church available
@holyfenrir63362 ай бұрын
The Orthodox Church in America has a whole PDF on creating missions or little parishes in the work. They also have the Hologian and other church services. For OCA purposes, you need 8 contributing adults to form a mission. Which occasionally a priest will come and serve liturgies if formally recognized. At my local parish, when our priest was sick, we did a lay service using the psalms, hours, and typica. (All of these are pdfs on the OCA website) However, it's important that you reach out to the closet parish or bishop. As you can't separate yourself from the church and call yourself Orthodox.

@Maria-Ortodoxa2 ай бұрын
@@moorfim I think the best for you and any of you in this special situation would be to contact an Orthodox Priest like Father Josiah, Father Peter (Heers) and ask what to do exactly. You have to get baptized by an Orthodox Priest, and only Orthodox. Also definitely not a Priest that believes us and muslims have the same God, that us and papists are brothers, or that same s e x marriage is allowed. NO, no, no, don't get baptized by them! May God help you! Pray and have faith that everything will turn out okay!

Of course it is a penal sacrifice, according to God himself forgiveness is only possible through the offering of blood. For in it lies the soul/spirit. Which is offered back to us in the blood of the eucharist, makes us partake in his body and soul/spirit.

God's wrath is a term that the Holy Spirit sees fit to use to refer to God's justice and powerful opposition to wickedness. So Christ bearing God's wrath arises from the fact that He took upon Himself our sins, and this is why He says in Psalm 87, "Against Me is Thine anger made strong." "He drank even the cup of God's displeasure. The cup that was bubbling over in the fermentation of God's wrath in the Scriptures. It was the cup stirred up by our own miserable sins and our own betrayals. It was the drinking of the cup of darkness, of gloom, of death, which caused our Lord to cry out on the Cross, 'My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?' This is how much He bore." -Fr. Josiah Trenham, "The Nicene Creed: An Introduction" lecture series, Lecture 3 - Jesus Christ the Son of God, starting at 33:50
@joshf22182 ай бұрын
@@orthodoxensign I don’t have a problem with the term “Gods wrath” to refer to the state of death or suffering. But while the suffering servant was esteemed by us stricken by God and accursed, He was in reality being glorified and drawing all men to Himself.
@orthodoxensign2 ай бұрын
@@joshf2218 Yes and all of it is in harmony together. He was glorified and drew us to Himself, having borne the wrath that had been against us for our sins, and paying the penalty we owed, so that we could ask God to "forgive us our debts" through the mediation of Him Who died for our sins.
@joshf22182 ай бұрын
@@orthodoxensign we could ask God that before the cross. Christ bore the wrath in the sense that He bore it away by experiencing the totality of human injury while being without sin. God did not make death, so Christ tasting it doesn’t require the Father to “do” anything with death since death doesn’t come from Him nor did He create it. There was no actual wrath from God the Father on the cross onto the Son, that’s inappropriate Trinitarianism.
@orthodoxensign2 ай бұрын
@@joshf2218 What do you mean by "actual wrath"? Christ certainly bore God's wrath, which is why He Himself says through the Spirit inspiring the Psalmist, "Against Me is Thine anger made strong." God didn't have to make death in order for it to be a punishment that comes about through His judgement and condemnation, by the way. He did not make death, but it is nevertheless a punishment from Him, which is part of what Christ bore in bearing all the punishment for our sins

I think "Affirmation of the Cross" would more accurate, since surely God is not given to opinions or feelings. "Jesus' " also the accurate possessive pronunciation rather than Jesus's/"Jesuses", tho' it seems common these days. English is going thru changes these days, but it isn't for the better. Just helpful suggestions; not in harshness.
@evanrico32442 ай бұрын
"Jesus'" and "Jesus's" are both grammatically correct, and they are both pronounced: "Jesus-is."
@laceygreenwood2 ай бұрын
@@evanrico3244 "Jesus' " possessive is pronounced the same as Jesus, because the possessive apostrophe is after an "s" preceded by a vowel. That is how English used to work. Today everyone says "Jesus'-uz/-ez/ -iz . The possessive of Jesus used to be "Jesu' ". Jesus's , like "Jesus is coming again," would be a contraction of "Jesus is", but when using the possessive, it should be pronounced "Jesus'". However, language does change with time (not usually for the better). "Jesus'uz" is not correct English, unless the rules have been changed, which wouldn't be surprising. When people mispronounce things long enough, it tends to become the norm. Like "these ones" is incorrect, but everyone uses it. ~Cheers.
