Another touching movie I _strongly_ recommend is Priest (1994). It's a drama, a love story, despicable crime, and taboo, all in one package. Wonderful actors, too, including Tom Wilkinson and Robert Carlyle. ❤ Please watch it with us!

‘Gods own country’ is an expression for land supposedly favored by God, and it’s usually used by local people for rural or wild land. In the country of England, it refers to the vast landscape of Yorkshire in northern England, which Johnny is never able to appreciate (keeping his head down when surrounded by beautiful) until he looks around on that hilltop *with* Gheorghe 🥰

Omg I’m so happy you watched this! thank you very much ❤ it’s slow but the story and visuals are stunning! I think it’s so emotionally moving how Johnny learns to give and accept affection as an adult bcuz he never got that as a child. Gheorghe is such a naturally nurturing person and so full of love even though you know that he’s lost a lot in life. It’s fascinating how much it mattered to Johnny that Gheorghe wanted to care for the runt lamb who had no mother, even if there was only a slim chance it would work out. Johnny didn’t understand why he would devote time and effort like that bcuz no one had shown that to Johnny. He feels abandoned (mother ran & friends moved away), mistreated (dad & nan) and not worth saving (self-hatred & alcoholism)…witnessing that runt be cared for was necessary for his growth. This film is like a modern British Brokeback Mountain, except the repressed character learns to make an effort and gets his happy ending with the man he loves.

🙏🏼❤️Thank you for the reaction to a very good movie. I followed you here from Young Royals 😊 I just watched GOC recently. The emotional exploration of the characters was amazing and the acting was incredible. Josh, the actor who plays Johnny, is nothing like his character. Josh is warm, funny, and emotionally expressive. This film, IMO, should have gotten a lot more attention.
