1:41 Too west to be east, too east to be west, being versatile was a tricky place to be in the late 90s, you could only be one thing 4:29 Little by little rap was sectioned into areas, cities etc 5:40 Living in Carson, but went to school in Watts, claiming both "Watts C-Arson" 8:13 Rumor is different nationalities were put together in Carson, potentially to beef with each other, until mix babies started poppin out everywhere 10:40 Dizaster traveled all over the world because of his bars 11:09 Ras Kass wrote his first rap when he was 10 years old, says he's trash now, but thought he would save the whole block with his talent 13:09 When did the urge to take his songwriting skills into a challenge 14:25 Ras Kass was discovered by Battlecat 17:20 Snoop used to perform at Ras' school 18:54 Ras actually battled a few times just to prove his skills 21:31 Label tried to change him, made him go more commercial but these albums never came out for that reason 22:28 Ras, just like philosopher Descartes, wanted to showcase his duality as a person 23:34 "Marinate" was Yoyo's beat first but he got it eventually 24:04 Ras and Lush rap along to "Marinate" 24:26 Dizaster battled Bad Azz at a Snoop music videoshoot 25:32 Dizaster didn't want to go too crazy but then Bad Azz dissed him so Diz snapped 28:11 Diz asks Ras to explain the controversy behind the "Home Sweet Home" beat aka Jadakiss' "We Gonna Make It" 28:45 Ras Kass explains the downhill battle with Alchemist after Ras bought 3 beats from him 30:40 Ras says Alchemist was crying for not getting paid from other rappers so Ras was like "I'll pay double no problem", at the time Ras was signed to a major so money was never an issue 31:07 Ras says Alchemist took his kindness for weakness and that why he got comfortable lying since then 31:20 Alchemist also complained about Muggs and other people he was working him for not paying him 32:08 Ras and Alchemist go to the studio, Ras picked beats and confirm them on the spot 33:08 3 months later Ras asked Alchemist for 2 more beats, Ras has paperwork so everything is documented 35:00 "Home Sweet Home" (aka Jadakiss' "We Gonna Make It") had a release date, was in the process of making the vinyls, Alchemist calls Ras and asks still gonna use that beat (at that point Ras paid and all the paperwork are signed by lawyers) 35:17 Alchemist still played "Home Sweet Home" to Jadakiss and let him use it without telling anyone (aka Jadakiss' "We Gonna Make It") 37:22 Ruff Ryders gave the record to Flex, 2 days later Jadakiss "We Gonna Make It" was a hit, Flex didn't know it was Ras records and eventually apologized 37:56 Then Ras lawyers were like: "What you wanna do? Go after them?" 38:44 Ras didn't want to f*ck Jadakiss' situation so he chose not to, Ras took the high road but Alchemist f*cked up 39:24 Alchemist allegedly continued to lie about it and flipped it on Ras, Ras says he got more tea on Alchemist 41:20 Ras came back with a diss to Alchemist, has nothing against Jadakiss at all 42:43 Ruff Ryders didn't do things properly either coz they bailed on the meeting with Ras and still dropped the Jadakiss song: "We Gonna Make It" 45:15 Ras says Alchemist took his kindness for weakness and he's still lying about it 47:17 Ras says Alchemist should apologize for lying for 20 years 50:08 "I'm not giving Game no energy, that guy is the worst!" 50:31 Ras says Game going at Eminem is pure desperation 51:12 Ras says Game has hella help when it comes to writing his bars 52:09 Ras says Game doesn't write his rhymes and has the nerves to lie about it 52:54 "Game wants to go at Eminem, but Em writes his rhymes" 53:08 Giving the regular top 5 that everyone mentions is some groupie sh*** 54:09 Ras asks Game: "You want a shot with the top dog, what did you do with that pen, who is you?" 54:30 Ras told Wendy Day to do Rap Olympics every year, rappers filmed in a room with pens and pads, see who writes what, no ghosts writers around 56:10 Diz battled a rapper who paid for his bars and used a ghostwriter for a BATTLE! 58:52 Ras says songwriting with ghostwriters is cool, but don't come over here in the lyricist lounge with ghostwriters acting like you're the bar guy 59:43 Ras breaks down the difference between songwriting and battle rap/bars 1:03:26 Dizaster thinks there should be two different genres for "actors" in rap and real lyricists 1:04:12 "Look foo!" Debate about the genre and sub-genres of hip hop 1:07:30 Should everything be segmented? Separated categories? 1:09:04 Ras pays homage to battle rappers keeping the art of lyricism alive 1:10:05 Lyricist are inspired by battle rappers and vice versa 1:10:35 However, Ras thinks that in battle rap, some bars are a little too expected, like sports references or gun bar 1:11:04 Is battle rap getting too much like the industry now? Theatrics over skills? 1:12:50 Lord Finesse inspired Lush to do punchlines 1:14:40 Lush says Ras' song "Nature of the Threat" taught him way more than anything in school 1:18:16 Ras Kass explains his album title "Soul on Ice" 1:22:21 Kleptocracy generation? 1:23:20 Ras says he could've gave the game some basic rhymes but ultimately didn't 1:24:55 The Kool Moe Dee report card had actual criteria, nowadays, people unqualified to talk about hiphop make lists with rappers who don't even write their own lyrics 1:29:26 Ras loves music and never did it to be a huge star when he started 1:31:47 S/O J57 1:33:15 Looking forward to Cypress Hill & Onyx Verzuz in May 1:36:42 Ras album dropping with Havoc from Mobb Deep

I am so glad he is letting these people establish their own brands in a way where its tied to who the host/interviewer is. Yeah its more business risk, but with that risk comes increased profits too, and its the morally and culturally responsible way to do it anyway. Like all these people he brings on have personality and actually appear like a human person. Also its always good to have better content too as a viewer!

Yo mad respect to y’all for this podcast. I never thought I would see someone mentioning & chopping it up with the greats on this platform. Truthfully to hear Freestyle Fellowship mentioned on No Jumper is mind blowing. They are the reason I started exploring more west coast “underground” hip hop not just East Coast.. i gotta show Myka 9 this. I’m not a close friend or anything just chat on IG occasionally but definitely need to show him this. I’m 40 years old & raised in southern Cali I been listening to real hip hop longer than I can remember & this pod right here is genius… You guy’s should interview Myka or even some more of the guy’s from the Fellowship & or the Good Life.. Blessings y’all

Ras Kass' take on the high road is something else. Damn I love hearing these humbling stories about artists having respect for others careers. Especially when you're at the short end of the stick. It is actually quite funny hearing him tell the story about integrity in regards to producers and beats and paperwork. I manage a producer named Chuck Heat, who produced a bunch of records for Devin the Dude as well as Scarface, the luniz and so on. I spent some time with Rass once or twice in the studio and had ran into at a club, and gave him a beat CD. About 6 months later I heard his song that used our beat on a mix tape, although it was a mixtape it was for sale at Ameba Records with a bar code. They never called us for clearance or payment. In his defense he did try to credit the producer but spelled his name super wrong. Can't remember what the song was called but I think it might be Jungle something. I do remember that they awkwardly added "don't push me" grandmaster flash sample in the song although it did not go with the beat at all.
