Seriously Godkiller has been on my indie RPG list for a while. Its evocative text and just theme-ing you hit right on home with this video. I will get around to running Godkiller one day!

oh man you gotta check out The Silt Verses, it's a series set in a modern-ish world dominated by gods of industry and commerce which have supplanted and outlawed older, wilder faiths and cults. its two taglines are "a god must feed, a god must be fed" and, later, "kill your gods", really fantastically written series.

This is a really fantastic video. Video Essays like this on RPGs is where I was/am considering pivoting some of my content to. I think there is a void in this niche for this level of research and breakdown and I wish you the best with this because I think you have something special here that I am not seeing very much of in this side of the hobby. This is the first video of yours that I have clicked on, I am excited to check out the rest of your catalogue and to see what you do in the future, dude. Great stuff.

Thanks! If you liked this video, I recommend checking out my essays on Hellwhalers and Apocalypse Keys! And yeah, I'd love to see more RPG channels do video essay-type stuff. It takes a lot of work, but I think it presents games in a way that's more appealing than a straight review!

@@aavoigt Absolutely, I'll check those out! And yeah I agree, I hope to see more of it and I hope you get more growth because you definitely deserve it!

People always forget the god-tier curses! Admittedly, most RPGs do too, but I'm more than eager to let the gloryhounds in my party steal the finishing blow, call me superstitious.

Game essay suggestion: Check out this very unusual and bizarre game called "here, there, be monsters!" by wendi yu. In it, instead of playing the supposed "good" guy, you play the monsters who are hunted down and exploited by organizations. The book simply is just ... weird ... with some really unorthodox character backgrounds and rules, that make me completely at a loss for words ... So I think the book's worth a video essay. The author - wendi yu also has some other interesting work that I recommend as well.

i love the fact that Nietzsche wrote all this because he was rejected by the girl he had a crush on

we all deal with rejection in our own, totally normal, ways

I recommend Moon Channel's video "Why Do You Always Kill Gods in JRPGs?" if you're curious about why God-killing is such a common theme in JRPGs and other Japanese media.

I watched that video literally right before this one! I'm on to "What Happens After a God Dies," and then the film "Mad God" afterward.

Very cool. As a latter-day saint artist, I have been developing a ttrpg called Spiritpunk for sometime that is set in an oppressive cyberpunk future utah and explores a lot of religious themes. It's interesting to come upon a game that calls itself 'holypunk,' and to see where the themes overlap and contrast. Thanks for the analysis.

Asura's wrath is an old videogame of Capcom qbout rage against the heavens, this game reninds me of It.
