Just a few details about the PC version: The GOG distribution is just patched to run in modern hardware with just ONE true modification done to the game itself. Vanilla PC ran at an unstable framerate that would try to match 30 FPS but in reality it was like 25-ish for most of the time. GOG version either runs at a stable 30 or 60. The PS1 was obviously 30. Both PC and GOG versions run the cinematics at 15 FPS while the PS1 version ran at 24. Plus artifacts in the PC ports are obvious to the eye, not as brutal as the PC versions for Resident Evil 3 which had 15 FPS and 16-bit color depth, both half of what the PS1 had to begin with. The unlockable costumes were indeed unlocked from the start in the original PC port, GOG just carried out that design. The same happened with Resident Evil 3, the original PC port had the costumes unlocked too and the follow up port from Source Next in 2006 kept that design. The flickering of the 3D assets was indeed a problem with the PS1's Z-Buffer, something the original PC port inherited and since the GOG version is just a compatibility patch for modern hardware IT KEPT that bug despite the difference in hardware to which the PC port was aimed. The texture warping and model flickering in the game comes from the atrocious Sub Pixel Precision of the PS1 hardware, to explain it simply: the PS1 could calculate the position of the polygons and textures within a certain range around a pixel in the screen. With more Precision more exact data with less, well, less exact positioning. This meant that if a polygon's edge was designed to appear in "pixel 150" in the screen the PS1 will locate that edge in a circle 3 pixels AROUND "pixel 150" producing a flickering where the edge would "dance" around "pixel 150" instead of existing where it was designed. While the PS1 HAD a co-processor capable of more precise Sub Pixel calculation the console NEVER used this, and developers had to either endure the standard bugs in the calculation or do Sub Pixel Precision thru a software solution, for example Spyro uses a software "patch" for this problem meaning that the game barely had any polygon flickering or texture warping, while other games like Medal of Honor or Gran Turismo had a MASSIVE amount of warping and flickering. FOR SOME REASON the original ports from Dino Crisis and Resident Evil (trilogy) KEPT this shortcomings despite the fact that the hardware intended for them (PC) was MORE THAN CAPABLE to run the games in perfect condition. For anyone interested Gemini produced patches for Dino Crisis and the Source Next ports of Resident Evil (including the OG RE1 port from 97) which fix this problems alongside a LOT of shortcomings from the original ports like bad audio, obsolete controller drivers and unstable framerate. Well... such a wall of text but I hope this info is useful to whoever endured the reading.

@@GarkKahn it helps that when I tried installing disc versions of first Fallout, original Baldur's Gate or Tomb Raider II, all of them worked out of the box on a new Win11 computer. Yes, fan patches like DDrawFix or DgVoodoo2 are helpful for newer graphics cards, but Windows by itself has amazing backwards compatibility. Unfortunately, being cut off from your games due to Steam update is still a thing. GOG installers work on everything and you don't need to swap 6 CDs to install BG. Is Original Saga still available? It's different engine to Enhanced Edition.

There are challenges to making an internet connected service like steam work on unsupported operating systems after a while. Valve is pretty pro-consumer though, so they tend to keep old OS support as long as they can. Windows 8.1 is over a decade old now, it's a little much to expect them to continue support. People give Chris crap for being basic, which he mostly is alot of the time, but Jill really isn't much better, she just has some interesting visual elements that made her more memorable. Regina is just Jill if Jill was more sarcastic and had red hair, but since Jill is pretty bare minimum already, it's not a huge thing. This isn't to say I hate either of them, I like both of them alot and have done since RE1 released, but really all Jill and Regina do is react to things happening to them with little to no individuality.

This was one of the first videogames that i ever played, along with Gran Turismo and Crash Bandicoot, gave me tons of happy memories with friends and family (used to play at my granma’s house with cousins every wednesday, on my uncle’s PS1, who bought it with the first money he made with his job). Thinking that i was playing a game with something so subtly related to what i became almost 20 years later, considering that i had no interest in aviation back then, hits in a strange way (mostly good). There’s really never gonna be a place and a time like that.

Josh, I work for an instrument manufacturer and often times I have to screen clip the program I'm using to provide detailed instructions to a customer remotely. The number of times that I've used the snipit program, and drawn arrows and such in paint would give GoG a run for their money. I wish I had the artistic skills to make something more descriptive but sometimes you work with what you've got!

Yeah, she is at a psychopath level of coldness sometimes, right from the start even. Thanks for the video. To be fair, one of the big discussions i have seen from current youtubers is "why Dinocrisis?" and the answer for me is "well, aren't you tired of zombies?" and "well, i want to see how do you work and expand Dinocrisis". It is similar to the discussion about Capcom fighters and how one gets tired and want to see alternatives, i want to see Capcom tackle Darkstalkers again and to let Street Fighter do its thing. Alternatives.

Maybe it's a regional issue, but Dino Crisis is only $10 on the PlayStation Store in the U.S., no subscription needed. The subscription service just gives you access to all PS Classic games. Edit: It appears the game started as an subscription exclusive along with Resident Evil: Directors Cut, but both are now standalone purchasable.

@iisanulquiorrahara8 7 күн бұрын
Speaking as a US player, it didn't start out that way, and there was a lot of complaints for it being tied to subscription. They added the option to purchase it separately after awhile (and I got to have it free because I owned it on the PS3 already)

She has moments where she looks at a mangled corpse and her only response to it amounts to "That's disgusting" in a very cheeky tone. So either she has been around death constantly and got a very blasé look on it all, or she is a psycho. Something does tell me however that it's the former though. Because almost every action she does looks like she does it in a very experienced "10 years in the job" kinda vibe, you know? The only time she freaks out a little is when she reports a "giant ass lizard" to Rick after the first encounter. And later even that seems to have mellowed out, "Yeah, I told you there was dinosaurs."

I haven’t played or even really seen this game in ages. I remember it being more actions and less puzzles so it’s interesting to know my memory was totally off. Also the painful voice acting is a little nostalgic. I didn’t realize Mark Meer was one of voice actors. I’m not sure if I want to try this or not, I feel like more modern games, like Dead Space, stomped out the balance and game better. However there’s definitely something to be said for the nostalgia, and I appreciate this review. An in depth overview like this is great.

Dino Crisis 1 is a weird creature. Everyone tends to remember it as "Resident evil with Dinosaurs" but outside of the camera angles, it really does not play all that similar at all. It's also remembered somewhat fondly these days but it had a rough time back in the day for some good reasons, it's practically a puzzle game with a splash of dinosaurs. Dino Crisis 2 was generally a more enjoyable game, but I think both games would benefit alot from a good remake, DC1 especially as it's core elements aren't particularly well implemented, in particular the earliest parts of the game were commonly a huge stopping point where people would give up playing from getting stuck.

@mikek9491
@mikek9491 7 күн бұрын
You might want to check the terms and conditions of PSN... you don't own anything you purchase on that service, you are buying a license to play which lasts only as long as Sony allows. Sony reserves the right to block access or even remove from your library any game you've purchased on PSN. They can ban your account for any reason, also removing your ability to play games. Steam is actually similar, which is why a California law forced them to disclose that consumers don't actually own anything purchased on the platform. The main difference is that while Valve may not be the most consumer friendly, they are miles better than Sony. GOG is unique in this case in that the DRM-free nature of the games they sell means you do "own" your purchased games in the sense that corporations can't take them away from you or prevent you from accessing them.
@ClassyCrustatio
@ClassyCrustatio 2 күн бұрын
@mikek9491 that's not how DRM works... you still just own a liscenes... in fact even if you own physical media you are only purchasing a liscence to the medianon the disk. It's just harder to enforce... same goes for physical hardware. "Not for resale" is literally because of the product license... In order to purchase a game off gog you need an account, if they ban you guess what... thebexact same thing you said steam or Sony does happens to you... DRM protects mainly from pirating, its stands for Digital Rights Management and only apply to running the software. In your examples, if you are banned from psn or steam you can still run the software if already purchased. If steam bans you they are legally required allow you to download your software unless it is not longer available to download. DRM doesn't have anything to do with the purchasing or downloading of content, just the access of it once it is launched... which again is mainly used to authenticate legal versions of a software.
