Which version of Godot do you have? Some of the features you have I don't have.

Great video ! how would you go about creating VFX for a 2D game with isometric perspective? I am currently torn between doing the animations 2D and somehow make them "look" three-dimensional or create the VFX in 3D and then port them to the 2D game. What would your approach be?
@nillerh823617 күн бұрын
With "port" i am referring to "billboarding" i.e. I would add a viewport to the 2D screen that depicts the 3D VFX.
@Le_x_Lu17 күн бұрын
The real answer is it depends on the art style of your game. I dont recommend to use texture-3DViewports in a 2D game, specially if there's a lot of effects...if you have a lot of Viewports, that can be a performance killer 🥵 specially if there is a lot of viewport3D-textures... otherwise you will need to record a video-make a spritesheet to a final PNG.( with different angles of the VFX).. But that gets a little more complicated, and I don't know of any Plugins to do that simply... I'd personally do it in 3D + 2D (2.5D) specially if its a game similar to Hades, with dynamic shadows and stuff...

@@Le_x_Lu Thanks for the tips! It will be a pixel game in a style similar to Wizard of Legend, Eldest Souls and Hunt the night. While I like the VFX in those games, I also enjoy the VFX from games such as Vampire Survivors and Hall of torment. How would you create VFX for a 2.5D pixel game? Would you go the route of creating the game in 3D and then lock the axis to display it in isometric style, or create the VFX as pixel art that you animate? The issue I face on the last option is that my VFX looks 2D and not 2.5D :( Thanks for the help and happy New Years !

@@nillerh8236 ohh.. its pixel art.. then you can go full with 2D.. and bake the isometric-effects from a software like Pixel Composer.. like this example.. x.com/MakhamDev/status/1750141423050268733 well.. I tought you were talking about a game style like "Hades", in that case i would have the scene in a main 3D node with a camera in 45°, and 2D behind.. but if you want to go for a "Wizard of Legend" is better to do it all 2D..
