"Are you interested in that new light mode them, because your weird" Fun fact, light mode is actually a better option for people that chronically suffer from eye strain migraines. So even though I aesthetically like dark theme better, I generally use light theme when its an option, as my eye strain migraines make me physically ill and I "lose my lunch" when I get them. Great video 😄

Good work on this! Personally, I'd love to see the Scene view tabs across the very very top of the window because changing the scene tab changes what each of the other docked windows displays, so it makes sense to me that it would drive the rest of the UI top down. Not sure this wording makes sense.

godot theme has apparently fully been changeable for a while. i discovered it by accident when trying to make themes for control nodes. if you decide to import editor theme, and dont make the resource unique..... the godot editor itself gets modified im surprised there arent more custom godot themes

It's a 4.2 addition, but you can use the native file selection by enabling "Use Native File Dialogs" in the Editor settings.

Another small detail, under Editor Settings -> Editor -> Dock Tab Style: Set to Icon Only

2.0 made it possible for me to make the tabs a little bigger and easier to click so icon only mode is more viable now

Crazy to hear PassiveStar is doing this now! Back before the fiasco, I was subbed to him and in his discord for Unity tutorials. So cool to see creators moving to Godot

FYI there is totally an option in the settings to use system dialogs

This theme is much better than the default one, the UI is much easier to read and understand, the buttons / fields feel more natural. Please Godot team, add this as the official engine new look.

@3:57 is actually really funny. Because I see it the other way. The original is nicely separated the other one is cluttered.

Agreed. Having elements floating around in space with no visual separation is what I consider clutter. In extreme cases you get UI where it feels like elements are just placed all over the place willy-nilly. Having lines or changes in background colour to indicate separation is always more functional and readable. The example shown at the timestamp is a fairly minor change, but it has merged the main toolbar with the table header by matching their background colours, which is mixing different hierarchical levels of control elements, creating a cluttered feel.

For a second there I thought I was going crazy because I know I just commented on this topic. Turns out that was the previous video haha. At the risk of repeating myself though, this topic helped me resolve my two biggest issues with Godot, one being the theme. You are my hero.

Have been using v1 since I saw your video on it. I do wish that the downloaded .tres could include the color changes (need to look it up when running Godot on a new machine, laptop ect).

technically I could swap out settings to recommended when the theme is selected, but that would either overwrite user settings and it's not a nice thing to do, or would require some additional code to add presets to editor settings to make them selectable and that would make the theme a little harder to maintain, and I'm trying to keep it simple. keep in mind there's no single recommended color anymore, I myself recommend 3 different ones with #252525 being the "main" one, but it's really up to anyone what color to use

You can favorite your downloads folder, btw. I never remember that exists, either, but it's there. :)

i just use the default godot theme but with slightly modified colors and a little more padding. I have a purple accent color

I use Arial as Font and changed all fields to have an outline. This helps with quick readability.

Do you know how to change the font size for the UI in Unity and Unreal? I got a 4k monitor and the font is so small it's very difficult to read. I found the setting for Blender, it helped a lot. I also wish I could add sepia to Unreal UI font -- the contrast of bright white on black is uncomfortable

I still like my own custom dark majestic green with gold elements. I wish godot can export theme changes instead of saving entire tres setting theme file everytime a major new version comes up. I am sick of using diff tools to compare old and new settings 😔

Its just different. Wouldn't say its any better, just preference. The extra config settings are nice but faffing about with editor theme stuff is what people do when theyre procrastinating actually working on their game.

Strong disagree! Spacing in this theme is absolutely horrendous. The icons tend to be so small already that without visual separators I actually can't see them properly. This minimalism theme just makes it look cluttered.

it's a complete rewrite of this theme that makes it support editor settings and scale properly with different displays. the design stayed mostly the same as in version 1.x

4:55 Why does no one understand how to use percentages? 😑 If something shrinks by 50%, that means there’s 50% remaining of the original size. Shrinking by 100% means it’s 0% of the original size. Shrinking by “~150%” means there’s somehow -50% of the original size. This is the same mistake that MIT paper made about GitHub Copilot making devs 56% faster (when in reality the math came out to 122%)

I actually like the weird blue. It's unique. I have more issue with the spacing and general overall design than the color. I know they probably have other things to spend their resources on but I'm hoping a UI/UX team comes along to address some of the weirdness. NO I don't mean make it like Unity or Unreal (please no), but something more similar to the iOS version that was being shown by Miguel de Icaza. Very slick and easy to use while still looking good.

Maybe that will be Godot 5.0 look. For now the look, despite its colors that are not pleasing everybody, is very clean. What Godot needs are rendering performances, better handling of large projects, real-time shadows, meshlets systems, much better audio effects.
