I know we should concentrate more on working on our games and care less about what people say within their game dev communities, but holy hell - the Godot cult is so absurdly widespread it's not even funny. If you have a problem - that's your problem, skill issue, don't you dare criticizing this PERFECT ENGINE, we give you so much love, how could you? So many unhinged, autistic man babies, literal children and other incredibly stupid people Waiting for these Godot cultists in the comments and massive dislike bombing

@@aqua-bery Community managers of Godot often remove genuine criticism of the engine under different pretexts, so you're unlikely to come across it. Fanatical behavior of Godot users becomes apparent only when someone dares to criticize Godot, as evident in the comment section under the videos of this channel. Consider yourself lucky to have found this channel! It's often the problem when helping others. It often feels like they didnt do the basic investigation about their problem and they expect you to debug for them. You end up seeing patterns and can guess by reading what they are asking that it would be a painful process to help them, so you just... don't.

Honestly, while I understand the frustration that usage of Godot may give you, the video… haven’t explained anything in details. You can replace the “Godot” mentions with any other brand and it won’t change much. And I expected a link to the mentioned book (to check a more comprehensive material about Godot issues) - and it’s not here.

You're probably out of the loop and seem like a nice guy in contrast to most Godot zealots, so let me explain. I'm not using Godot anymore. I used to maintain Godot for several years. This video is a satire, I'm not even talking here, I'm just using different videos from various Godot-related channels to achieve the post-ironic message. Many Godot fans are amateurs and often blame themselves rather than the engine, making them believe that their skills are the issue. But for the most part, Godot is unreliable and even broken when we're talking about features such as physics. Many professional developers and long-term users of Godot confirm this thesis. Of course, this could be applied to any engine, but you probably don't realize the extent of this issue in Godot which makes the whole difference worth bringing up. However, another point of this video was to demonstrate that even complaining about these issues will eventually lead to ostracism from the Godot community, unlike in most other healthy communities. In fact, there exist different types of Godot believers who tend to dismiss Godot issues as normal, I don't know whether you've used Godot before or considered using it in the future, but according to my experience, many of those who have expressed similar thoughts such as yours share these characteristics: waiting-for-blue-robot.gitlab.io/glossary.html#believers I would put the link in the description, but for some reason, KZbin disallows me to do this. You don't have to believe anything, I recommend reading the rest of the book. If you ask questions, ask! Godot fanatics don't ask questions: waiting-for-blue-robot.gitlab.io/faq.html

And I will check the link you’ve provided (found it on the channel description too). I totally can understand your position and your reasons. And I cannot provide neither valid critique nor advices what to do, as I have almost 0 experience with the engine. I really like Godot but the input management, the 3D side is terrible, the animation managing a model is cumbersome, C# support is inferior to that of GDscript and also for the GDExtension issue, the built-in physics engine is shit. I'm thinking of returning to Unity and I want to thank you in part.
@GodotNoContext
@GodotNoContext 8 күн бұрын
Thanks, I'm glad you found this helpful! I know several former Godot users who switched back to Unity. For your information, in 2016, the lead developer stated they "aim for an engine that is easier to use than Unity, and that looks better than Unreal, and we are very close to getting there in the upcoming Godot 3.0". So, this promise has been dragging on for eight years. The year is 2024, and Godot's 3D capabilities are far behind Unreal's, making these comparisons laughable. Despite this, many Godot users, mostly novices unaware of these longstanding promises, continue to believe them. People often leave without voicing their concerns, so I appreciate you speaking out!
@michaelsalvini6287

@@GodotNoContext My problem with the input concerns the gamepads, the Xbox one doesn't work with the D-Pad, the Switch one, well... I don't comment and I don't understand why to use a database that uses SDL2/3 rather than implementing SDL2/3 as a built-in stuff, it's also bad not to have the possibility of press or hold, tap or double tap which makes the code in my opinion less clean, then I don't understand why to put only one script for a node. The W4Games issue I have my doubts and yes I agree that the Godot Foundation heads have to go. After I finish my game I'm thinking of making a game engine that is united some concepts of Unity, Godot itself and Unreal and make it Open Source but before that time I would like to concentrate on the philosophy of this engine calmly but above all I don't want to make the mistakes that Juan made. Note: If Godot 4.3 has not solved the Input problems, my game will revert to Unity Note 1: I will write an editorial on the site I write dedicated to Godot, and if it is possible I will also make it understandable in both Italian and English and I will put your ebook on the site if my boss will allow me.

It depends on who you ask. Godot fans insist there are no problems, believing that haters are everywhere simply because Godot is so good, in their opinion. 🤡 In reality, Godot is named after Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" where characters wait for someone who never arrives. Similarly, Godot feels like a psychological scam, with users caught in a cycle of "too terrible not to upgrade, good enough to make you want to upgrade." Godot often makes a highly hyped step forward, only to quietly take two steps back. Despite Godot's deceptive simplicity, many features are overpromised to attract unsuspecting donors, leading to inconsistent development decisions and a lack of stability.

@GodotNoContext

First of all, I'd suggest not restricting your options to just open-source engines. But since you asked about open-source, Stride3D and Open 3D Engine are good alternatives. There's also Flax Engine which is source-available, like Unreal Engine. For other general recommendations, read: waiting-for-blue-robot.gitlab.io/alternatives.html

O3DE and Dagor Engine. Of course learning curve is very steep and hardware requirements for development are high (but not for runtime), but at least these engines have properly working physics and somewhat usable realtime GI, unlike broken mess called SDFGI.

@GodotNoContext I will never understand why beginner hobbyist devs care so much about open source. There seems to be this kinda 'politicization' where new people coming into the game dev community apply their beliefs about economy/society/IP to this thinking that it matters but once you gain enough experience you begin to see how trivial normie things like that are just standing in your way and the best thing for you is whatever is suited for the job even if it costs money

@@OnyxtheFolf If you CAN use Godot for your purposes and it's not unduly aggravating, you should. The big thing about Godot being open source isn't that it's open source, but that it's free use. That means no costs for making a game with it. Ever. Same applies to any other open source or free use engine. This is not the case for unreal or unity, which both charge after you make IIRC like 100,000 dollars with a game.

@@OnyxtheFolf The problem with paid engines isn't just that you have to pay for them, it's having to deal with companies that see you as a wallet full of their money (which is most of them). An engine stops being suited for the job when you are suddenly being charged for every download. That won't happen if your engine is FOSS.

Honestly I've worked a lot with many engines, they are all just a way of getting to the same endpoint, if you can use it and it works than it's the tool for the job. However I maintain that godot is the worst 3D engine I've worked with due to the barebones documentation and pointlessly abusive community of people who think theyre big for mastering the quirky alternate option. Anyone who asks me now I point them towards Unity or GMS
@Obscurite1221
@Obscurite1221 26 күн бұрын
Well, that and Godot barely even HAD 3D before 4.0, so it's justifiably miles behind the other two, and frankly, if you're not willing to commit to building your own 3d pipeline, it's really just better to go to one of the other engines, at least until Godot gets a few more touch-ups to it's 3d systems. You can theoretically get close to Unity or Unreal 3D with custom stuff, but it's really just not worth the effort unless you have to do it anyways or it's a passion project. I personally like Godot because it's the easiest to learn of the three, and I think it's a really good primer in case you need to move to one of the other engines professionally.

It is one thing to criticize what you don't like about a software that you dislike or wanted more from you could state what you wish were there and simply move on if you don't trust the engine. But Going through almost every video about Godot and taking alot of things out of context calling anyone who even slightly like the software a cult follower no software is perfect I think you might have the engine interest in heart but your methodes are really wrong it isn't even funny at this point .be better than this

First of all, I'd like to point out that I often encounter people who act as though they're not fanatical about Godot, or they simply can't reflect upon their fanatical behavior. It doesn’t matter how criticism is expressed in Godot. Former maintainers, contributors, and long-term users have engaged in thoughtful and respectful conversations with the maintainers for years, but even their polite criticism is dismissed as odious "misunderstandings" or "trolling" despite the facts presented. Fanatics are blinded by their dogmatic faith in the technology they idolize and can't see the truth... That includes baseless out-of-context accusations. This became a meme in and of itself, hence the name of the channel. At this point, all we can do is mock them, and these satirical videos do a great job of that.
