For anyone following this tutorial and not achieving the same look because of the missing glow: Godot seems to have separated some values since. To replicate the visuals you have to additionally configure the Emission Curve in the Color Curves property. Create a curve and set its value to around 15 to achieve a similar look like in the video.
@ScumlordStudio8 ай бұрын
yo thank you for that, that also opened me up to more experimentation and i made a really cool rainbow effect messing with color curves and hue variation
@TheDriley47 ай бұрын
Did you have to create a new CurveTexture and a new Curve? Where did you set a value of 15? as a Min value in the curve settings?
@jamesmorris31227 ай бұрын
Emission Curve has a min/max 0 to 1. not sure how to set this like @TheDriley4 says
@SkiliMcSkilson5 ай бұрын
@TheDriley4 @@jamesmorris3122 creating a new process material like shown in the video i did it like this: - on the material, go to Display > Color Curves - click on the dropdown for Emission Curve and select "New CurveTexture" - click on the field again, that now says CurveTexture - click on the dropdown for Curve and select "New Curve" - click on the field again, that is now filled with black - set the "Max Value" to more than 1

Glad to see a VFX tutorial for Godot. Unity's proprietary data tech in their apps to determine the number of installs and the Always Online requirement made me learn other game engines

PLEEEEEASE MORE GODOT FX TUTORIAAALS For clarity, my team just changed the engine and we are jumping into Godot. As the only artist on the team now I have to know how to do basically everything I learned in Unity in a really short time xD As a suggestion for the next videos, I wouldn't like to see the same FX done before and now in a new Engine, but it would be interesting to see new ideas with basic principles of particle animation like bursts, radials, auras, AOE, and trails. Great job btw!

Happy to see one of your Tutorials for Godot (as it is my personal favorite of the engines). But I hope you can manage to keep doing Tutorials for all engines, as it will help beginners to focus more on the concepts rather than the engine details, while also showing differences of the engines.

Awesome. I recently changed my game from Unity to Godot. Godot is pretty cool but the same thing with Unity is sometime crush. But it is really good for 2D game. I still didn't try Godot for 3D yet but It doesn't matter, I can use Unreal for 3D anyway. So far, Godot is really good.
@Armetron Жыл бұрын
I believe the reason why Godot forces you to make a "billboard" within the shader is because previously the quad orientation was calculated by the cpu and the oriented quad was sent to the gpu which only had to calculate the material colors for the specific pixels. Since the model orientation is a matrix calculation and GPU's are great at matrix multiplications this work was offset to free up the cpu even more.
@GabrielAguiarProd Жыл бұрын
That’s a very interesting reason, sounds very plausible yeah. Nice!

Thanks for the introduction, does feel surprisingly familiar indeed. It makes total sense that the "materials" are shared (but a very important hint nonetheless) because this should be instancing friendly. The uv func node though, two inputs and a drop down it looks similar to tiling AND offset but it only does OR whatever is selected. Could have been two nodes just as well.
