Of course he is, the guy is barely a demigod at all, he has the blood of Godwyn but he is so far down the family tree there is barely anything divine within him. Every single NPC in the game clowns on him because he was a proud coward, monster, fraud and shame on Godwyn's fine name, he was the best demigod to put at the very start of the game, cause, if we couldn't handle him, how could we even begin to wish to defeat a complete God.

He probably fled from Radahn, as Kenneth puts it, when Radahn himself was retreating from trying to claim Leyndell (as we see Morgott, in his Margit form no less, plunging into Radahn - a counterpoint to this would be that Radahn was much smaller, closer to his DLC size, so this event could've been so long ago Godrick hadn't been born yet, but oh well). And the reason why he challenged Malenia, is because she and her cleanrot army were marching towards Caelid to battle Radahn and force him to fulfill his promise to be Miquella's consort, and Stormveil Castle was on the way. He probably challenged her in the castle, lost (his soldiers were probably fending off the cleanrot army) and begged for mercy. It's worth noting that we shouldn't take into consideration area scaling in Elden Ring, as it's just a game mechanic to make certain areas reasonably challenging as you progress through the game ever more powerful. Malenia probably was "eh", and continued marching towards Caelid.

I always wondered why didnt radahn and malenia killed him for his rune. They are holes in the castle so I think radahn threw a couple of warning shots at Godfrey just in case and he got ballsy enough to insult malenia, blade of Miquela. My theory is that either they deemed him to weak and assumed he didn't have a shard of the great rune OR radahn was in a hurry to claim his domain (Caelid since he had familiarity with the area) and malenia was in a hurry to get radahn for Miquelas plans

those aren't holes from a siege,they're sores. the castle is literally sick from death root. If you pay attention, the holes are never facing places where an invading army would be, they mostly face the sea, and through the decomposing rock we see the thorny roots growing out of the walls. It's all because of that piece of Godwin right below the castle.

@@gamongames It is definetely related to the Godwyn face, but it is not classic deathroot (there is no eyes or fly-wing thorns in the castle, it's juste dry thorns) ; I once saw a video that noted how the holes are all on the same side of the castle, and related this to what Nepheli says about Godrick : "he has tainted the very wind"

I still think that Godrick was able to partially steal this rune somehow from the half-dead Godwyn, which would explain the weird death roots in Stormveil Castle and why Godwyn looks so molded together and why Godrick's rune looks so washed out.

For someone this bad they sure care about the lineage because Godrick knows all of the Godfrey's history and people he concequred using their techniques and techniques of Godfrey's warriors interchangeably, along with using dragon head as his new weapon (symbolizing a treaty of Golden Order with dragons made by Godwyn) against tarnished. He just doesn't make a good ruler despite his will to become one.
