the overly-monotone narration is highly off-putting.

Three of the best Godzilla movies out there although they're not the only ones that play in a world that doesn't know of Godzilla, they are the best of the Japanese, I did like your analysis, though you might have mentioned in shin he was in constant pain looking at what shin Godzilla's motivations are
@rooftoku3 ай бұрын
I believe it was with Minus One where Godzilla was in constant pain, Shin I felt like there wasn't a deeper message about atomic bombs and their usage, but glad you enjoyed the video
@aczavius3 ай бұрын
@@rooftoku no it's definitely shin Godzilla's that was in a lot of pain, it was the pain of all those mutations that it was having all stemming from eating the atomic waste is what formed it to begin with, and you could also see it in the way it roared in the mutation seen between 2nd and 3rd form

Yeah I can see that, felt like it was more subtle compared to minus one though

1:56 The nuclear test at Bikini Attoll was a hydrogen bomb, not an atomic bomb. 6:10 Not just Tokyo, we actually firebombed a total of 69 Japanese cities including Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagoya, Yokohama, and many many others. 9:21 Actually, it is a fact. The director, Ishiro Honda, practically stated this at one point. When talking about the character of Dr. Serizawa he said “I wanted to share my views about scientists. They can create something great but they also must be responsible for how it is used.” 11:20 Exactly. This was intentionally done. It’s a statement on the arms race that was happening at the time where countries around the world were, essentially, trying to one-up each other by building bigger and bigger nuclear weapons. 34:14 The main character in Minus One is entirely based on the director of the original film from 1954, Ishiro Honda. In 1934 Honda was drafted into the war with China, and when that war ended in 1938 he returned home to his wife only to be drafted again into WW2 in 1939 and was discharged from military service until 1946 and on his way home he stared out the window to see Japan in ruins. And ever since then he was haunted by the horrors he experienced in war, even having traumatic nightmares about his time in war, having served in the military for about a decade.

Shin Godzilla was partially inspired by the 2011 earthquake. While still retaining the nuclear aspect of Godzilla, it was a comment on the incompetence of the government and politicians at handling the 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdown. Either way, the many hurdles that the government had to go through to proceed any large scale activity as mentioned in the video is likely the possibility of the issue to how they handled it in real life especially when things keep escalating worse and worse.(I'm not from Japan so idk the procedures). The director made sure to make the movie as realistic as possible as to how they handle disasters. And the take of Shin Godzilla still remaining to the end feels more so that Japan has to live with the fact that, this issue is gonna stay, so they have to learn how to handle and adapt to it. Amazing video, your views help breakdown the movies pretty differently and are pretty interesting, not many gave similar comments regarding Minus One as well.

Ahhh that makes complete sense, it did feel like that while watching the movie, it almost felt too real at times

What about the other solo Godzilla film. Godzilla 1985/Return of Godzilla. Technically also the American 98 Godzilla film but lets just agree that does not count
@godzillabebravethetrexretu13813 ай бұрын
You forgot The Return Of Godzilla that was a Godzilla solo movie that was the first film in the heisei era and a sequel to 54 that movie was a masterpiece just like these 3

@@rooftoku While Godzilla vs Hedorah is my favorite after these three movies I'd also suggest watching the Italian 70s re-release of the original Godzilla (if you can find it). Nicknamed Cozzilla after the "director", it has added war footage and unusual colorization which adds a surrealistic twist to the film.

I own only these 3 on BD. I just got my Toho Studios shipped Godzilla Minus One Limited Collector's Edition 4k Ultra BD, BD, BD -Color, BD Making of boxset. Criterion Collection BD Gōjira/Godzilla King Of The Monsters, DVD+BD Shin Gōjira. I wouldn't mind having 1984 Return Of Godzilla, but those 3 I'm good with.

No. A walking nuclear weapon. A destroyer of worlds. The holy and unholy spirit and offspring of death and destruction itself. The concept of death and destruction, suffering, all the nightmares and mistakes of mankind, and the victim of humanity. The one who is a true spirit of vengeance. His name is…… (Gojira)

Godzilla is all of humanity’s biggest mistakes and nightmares and sins. The destroyer of worlds, the holy and unholy concept and offspring of death and destruction itself. Mother Natures son. Her strongest child. Also the first Godzilla film is just the best of all time. Along with minus one. Godzilla was also a victim to humanity and just wanted revenge for what they did to his whole kind.
