Godzilla, in the original Godzilla film, is a creature whose underwater habitat was completely destroyed by a hydrogen bomb test which killed his entire family and left him burned and scarred, ultimately mutating him. Enraged and driven from his home, Godzilla took out his rage upon humanity, destroying any boats that he encountered and later laying waste to the city of Tokyo, sparing no one. According to Mothra's Shobijin's translation of Mothra, Rodan and the second Godzilla's conversation in Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, Godzilla only "hates humans because they hate him," suggesting that this new Godzilla never had any true malicious intent but was only reacting to constantly being attacked by humans. Rodan later agrees with Godzilla's statement. This fits with the second Godzilla's less aggressive initial attitude where it only attacked Japan when driven to shore by Anguirus's attack. As time passes on the second Godzilla's attitude towards humans shifts and he becomes much more actively friendly and protective of them, fighting alongside humans against numerous monsters. In the film Son of Godzilla, Godzilla discovers an infant member of his species named Minilla, which he decides to raise as a son and train to take up his mantle. Godzilla's loyalty and love for Minilla eventually leads to him becoming a primarily heroic and sympathetic character. In the films of the 1970's, Godzilla is depicted as an actual superhero who arrives in Japan to fend off evil monsters from outer space such as Hedorah, Gigan and Mechagodzilla.

Fun Fact: 'Godzilla vs Megalon' was retitled "Gorgo and Superman Meet in Tokyo" for its release in Spain. The reason for such a bonkers title is that shortly before its release in Spain, the giant monster film "Gorgo" (Eugène Lourié, 1961) had been released in theathers and it had proved to be quite successful. So, trying to build on that success the distribution company renamed the kaiju Gigan as "Gorgo". They also renamed the Jet Jaguar robot as "Superman" because.... just because, I guess. I suppose they also intended to capitalize on Superman's name. Copyright laws weren't very strict back then!

Hedorah is easily one of my favorites. The film, I think, fell just short of doing the alien proper justice. I mean, this thing can reproduce by feeding on smog and other pollutants, which causes it to produce a sulfuric acid fog. Not to mention the implications they give by explaining how the monster grows by combining with other Hedorah (which is made even more dangerous by his reproduction) and then the "and yet, another one?" end card. And of course the damage he did to Godzilla. Hedorah is easily one of the most dangerous Kaiju to ever walk the planet.

I didn't watch Ebirah and Hedorah previously, so no nostalgia goggles, but i think they're good films. Probably the most underrated of the series imo. As an adult, my appreciation for the original 54 Gojira and Mothra vs Godzilla has greatly improved. I know it’s subjective but I still think King Kong vs Godzilla is lame, from the designs to the comical fights. I personally enjoy both Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla films more by a long shot. Monster Zero might be my favorite showa film next to 54. Also, this is a bit of a hot take, but I think Destroy All Monsters is bottom tier. None of the monsters fight until the end when they all gang rape Ghidorah. It’s so one-sided that it’s actually comfortable to watch.

First of all, I totally agree with you that Godzilla Raids Again, is a very underated franchise movie!!! It is one of my favorite movies in the series, because it is very Atmospheric!!! The only draw back is that the monster fight scene should have lasted throughout the movie towards ending, in which Godzilla and Anguirus both should have been buried in the avalanche of ice and snow!!! Also, Anguirus should have been given a lightning attack as a power up!!! However, in my opinion Godzilla's Revenge, Godzilla vs. Gigan, and Godzilla vs. Megalon, should have been the lowest ranking movies!!! Then Son of Godzilla, Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster in which is one of my favorites, although I wish kong would have starred in the movie, and the rest on up!!! But, Toho needs to rely on using Varan, Titanosaurus, Gorosaurus, Sanda and Gaira, as well as, the other kaiju in order too become a successful studio again and stop rehashing the same old kaiju movies!!! Great and Awesome, video upload!!!
