I like that at 2:36 Godzilla actually has a somber expression for a split second, showing that he does take Zilla's view on things into account but doesn't want to show it. Lizard went from a immature spoilt adult brat to somone actually quarter decent.

It’s poetic because the kaiju genre is a facet of tokusatsu which is grounded in drama. So in a way this is kaiju media in its rawest form. I never thought I’d be so enthralled but here I am.

It's even canon. If you watch Zilla Jr. in the animated series, you'll see he's actually really smart and uses his big mutated lizard brain to solve problems, like when he freed the Loch Ness Monster's child, or the multiple times he surprised his opponents by burrowing underground and popping up behind them. Zilla Jr. might've gotten his smarts from Zilla Sr.

Always keep in mind: Toho made clear what they thought about "Zilla": in Final Wars he was stomped in less then 40 seconds, in a throw-away fashion. The shortest of all of Godzilla's fights in that movie.

The director said that fight wasn't true to his vision, it was going to be longer but they were forced to cut it down because of budget and time reasons. Also, Hedorah's defeat in that film was much worse, but that doesn't mean Toho hated Hedorah.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: 1998 Godzilla isn't bad. Key word being "Godzilla." The tv show showed us what would have happened if they did the movie right. Unfortunately, they decided not to do that and went a different path. But unfortunately, because of negativity, the planned trilogy was cancelled ( if anyone wondered where that "Queen Bitch" came from, she was the planned antagonist in tbe second movie), and like in the show, Godzilla would've had missle immunity and atomic breath. Now on the other hand, i do understand what Emerich was trying to do. He wanted to make a original Godzilla. Key word being "Original." It didn't act like the traditional Godzilla because it wasn't supposed to be a traditional Godzilla. Unfortunately, people get pissy about something not being up to their standards. Well, I've got news for everyone: 98 Godzilla is the best thing to happen to the fandom and toho. The movie makes more sales worldwide than any other, and continues to do so to this day. And on top of that, this movie is literally almost everyone's introduction to the King of the Monsters. You can't deny that a whole generation (including myself) grew up with this guy, snd i absolutely love the character. Its times like these where i wonder ..... why do people get so pissy about dumb shit like "it doesn't look like Godzilla " when Godzilla is LITERALLY A GIANT DINOSAUR WITH SPIKES ON ITS BACK

True, my first Godzilla movie was 1998's Godzilla, I actually watched the Animated Series a few years later and loved it. The design of Zilla was great as well and still is stuck with me. Also I feel like if Godzilla 1998 wasn't made, it'd likely result in the newer Western Godzilla films never existing or just being something else entirely. All Godzilla films were Japanese, though in America they'd be dubbed, so we originally had no Western Godzilla movie, mainly just Japanese Godzilla films. Heck just go to the list of Godzilla movies via Wikizilla and notice the very first Godzilla film to appear for the Hollywood section is Godzilla 1998. It definitely made a impact regardless of the hate towards it.

Like Godzilla Final Wars, Godzilla: Rulers of Earth, etc. And clearly this is the TriStar Godzilla and not the Final Wars Zilla so legally, the '98 Godzilla is still Godzilla. (Always has been.)
