Well, to be fair Godzilla did not attack the Golden Gate Bridge really. He swam up to it and stopped immediately. Rose up to see what was in his path and figure out a way past it. The Navy began shooting and sort of pushed him in to the bridge.

If the military had not attacked Godzilla, there is a good chance he would not have destroyed the bridge. After all, he stopped at the ships and then went under them when he could have gone right through them (which he did with abandon in Godzilla vs. Kong). It occurs to me that this is a good metaphor for the US - attack first, makes things worse, then clean up the mess afterwards.

The only reason Kong could ever speak in Godzilla's presence without raising his hand first is because RKO/Universal wouldn't let him appear in a Toho movie otherwise. GvK Kong got wrapped up and housed by a warbat before the humans attacked it and got him free. If 2014 Godzilla fought Kong it would have been Skull Island Kong at that time and it would have been an even worse beating than Kong got in GvK. His only prayer even in GvK was the axe. He'd be zero comp without it to this day and that's a fact. His Sunday punches don't even fade Godzilla.

Yeah the greatest of ideas putting a main battle tank on a bridge that can be knocked down instead of on the bank where its on solid ground. A M1A2 tank can hit a tank sized target on the other side bank across the Golden Gate Bridge accurately. I don't think there would be any issue of it hitting Godzilla from a greatly farther distance than from the bays bank.
