Godzilla Destroys the City | Godzilla: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001)

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack a very long title to a godzilla film, and probably the longest one ever, but yeah this scene shows godzilla heading towards baragon and destroying everything in his way. Then he goes on to destroy mothra and ghidorah until he is destroyed by a super x looking machine.
This film came out after godzilla vs megaguirus and is the third entry into the millenium godzilla series films with godzilla 2000 being the first. This film was made by the guy who did the heisei gamera films and the special effects guy was an assistant special effects director for godzilla vs biollante, and the heisei gamera films. This film also had a cameo of koichi kawakita who was the special effects director of all the heisei godzilla films series except for godzilla 1984, but the films he did the special effects include godzilla vs biollante 1989 , godzilla vs king ghidorah 1991 , godzilla vs mothra 1992 , godzilla vs mechagodzilla 1993 , godzilla vs spacegodzilla 1994 , and godzilla vs destoroyah 1995 , and rebirth of mothra 1 and 2 as well as other films and episodes in certain shows.
But this film brought back ghidorah, mothra and baragon with a new story in gmk godzilla 2001.

What makes GMK all the scarier of a Godzilla to me is not just because of the white eyes and the idea that he is a spirt of those that died in World War ii that want vengeance, but also because its just so much more aggressive and mean compared to the other ones. Unlike in most of the other films where Godzilla is more acting on instinct, GMK Godzilla is going to blow everyone around him up and enjoy doing it.

The stamping sounds are oddly frightening. On headphones at least. It sounds like a literal monster waltzing towards you. The new movies are great and all but I believe they're being too idolized. I feel like they need to portrayed as they are and that's heavy colossal titans. They need more impact when they walk and whatnot. Now I realized this, punches felt far too light in GvK. When Kong smacked Goji in the face while he was on the ground, that was the only time I've felt a impactful hit.

@@VinnyUnionHe hit Goji’s leg while on the ground, which still had the axe wound. Not his face. Kong’s punches couldn’t do damage or phase Godzilla naturally. Cuz the strength and durability gap was too massive. The only time Kong did any real painful hit was in Godzilla’s leg wound. But that only made things worse for Kong as Godzilla stomped his chest AGAIN with the same leg.

He *DID* hit Godzilla square in the face!! *When* Kong *jumped* off the building and smacked it mid-air while the atomic breath was fixated on the Axe's blade and they (the axe and goji) collided with each other leaving a hard impact right at his face. It left Godzilla momentarily paralyzed by brain trauma but as expected of any sort of lizard, he's recovered within a short duration of time, almost right after. The durability is indeed far too unfathomable. At most Kong can just play punching bag momentarily until God gets pissed beyond patience.

According to Toho this Godzilla is actually the bones of the original one from 1954, resurrected from nuclear weapons and the angry spirits of those who perished in WWII at the hands of Imperial soldiers. Hence Godzilla’s undead appearance; which is also why it looks modern with just a hint of the classic 1954 design thrown in. I was afraid of this Godzilla when I was little. 😮

Which is absolutely terrifying. There were moments in the film where he really wasn't just taking every single human in one blow but he actually seems very selective about it. The scene where he makes a mushroom cloud with hid atomic breath was OVERKILL. He did that on purpose to hit a small number of civilians who were running away from him. @@macrussell78 Not really, I would say you have a better case for Destoroyah since from the very beginning he wants to destroy individual people for no reason. Such as his going after the lady in the car, and going after the helicopter but being stopped by Godzilla jr. And then going back later to destroy the helicopter after he mutated into his larger form.

@@GSTE_ this I feel comes down to different interpretations cause I could still argue it was lashing out purely by instinct. Like how a Hippo would see a gazelle stuck in the mud and still maul the poor thing to death. We shouldn't confuse high aggression with malicious intent and I thing Destroyah was just a hyper aggressive expansionist crustacean not truly evil like ghosts of ww2 victims wanting to see an entire nation in misery.

@@macrussell78 well this isn't just mindless aggression. This is highly calculated. Destoroyah was fighting Godzilla jr at the time, yet he goes out of his way to case and try to destroy a helicopter with people inside. This Godzilla on the other hand only went after people when there were no other monsters around. This calculation is shown when he gets Burning Godzilla out of the way just to go after Godzilla jr and destroy the helicopter while he's at it.

To me this Godzilla is in the right and in the wrong I’m writing this on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor but the reason I love this film is that Godzilla is not only just a metaphor for nukes but he’s now one of vengeance to the many people who where killed by the imperial Japanese military during ww2 even in the film the old man says the Japanese people want to forget what happened however it dose not justify Godzilla killing innocent people that had nothing to do with it take this as a reminder this Godzilla is the bad guy but look at the reason behind it

This whole movie is a commentary on how Japan, and in the many ways the rest of the world, has forgotten the horrors of World War 2 and is dangerously unprepared to handle another disaster like the fire bombings of Tokyo, or the atomic bombings, even though the risk of nuclear devestation is higher than ever according to the doomsday clock. Godzilla himself is used as a representation of this mindset - over the years, he's been turned from a manifestation of nuclear carnage into a campy anti-hero who stars in movies with goofy monster battles that are played for laughs. Thats why in this movie, the background characters don't take Godzilla seriously, or even recognize him, until its too late. And thats why this Godzilla is the first one who is actually angry and hateful towards the Japanese people - because he, and everything he represents, has been forgetten. And yes, I am a diehard Godzilla fan and love the campy showa-era films and even movies like Final Wars, but what Kaneko says with this movie is more poignant than any movie since the original.

It cost about the same as two episodes of The Simpsons did in 2001 it was a very low budget film. Godzilla Minus 1 has a budget around the same but computers and cgi are so much cheaper now.
