William Shakespeare: Fuck it. To be honest, Godzilla on Game Boy is not a bad game. It's a fairly decent puzzle platformer. I haven't played it, but I can tell that it's not bad. For the record, the Angry Video Game Nerd was never meant to be taken seriously. My tip to you is look at the big picture and go by your own judgement. Give this game a chance, you might be surprised.

In Godzilland, generally Hedorah is portrayed as female. The original MSX game was based on Godzilland and they carried the Chibi motif over to the Game Boy version, so I carried the gender over. Plus I’m used to calling Hedorah a woman from my show anyways. I don’t have the Japanese instruction manual, but in the American manual (distanced from Chibi Godzillas and connected more to the films), I can confirm that Hedorah is referred to as a he.

One little detail you forgot to mention! The plot differences! In the american version, Minilla is captured by the other monsters and Godzilla is tracking him down. In the japanese version, Bijira is captured by them. Also, inbetween every so many levels, you would get gameplay tips and encouragement. In the american version, these tips are given to you... by the movie accurate monsters who captured Minilla in the first place (what?). In the japanese version, the tips and encouragement come from Godzilla-kun's family members.

I think the reason they made it harder in the U.S so that the younger audiences who pick up the game dont beat it during a rental weekend, thus making them more motivated to but the full game to see it all the way through.

@@MonsterIslandBuddies So I just came back from Tokyo and did actually track down a copy of Gojira-Kun GB. On top of being a better game overall, would you also believe the JP version is 2-player? If you look at the cartridge there's a little symbol with two Gameboys connected by link cable which indicates this game supports multiplayer. Sure enough, if you boot the game up it has the option to pick 1 or 2 players. I don't know if it's worth tracking down another copy of the game just for that, but at the very least it's one more feature which was omitted overseas for no real reason.
