'This isn't one of those fufu RPGs is my new favourite line from a manual! And thank you for taking the time to read the manual, a lot of reviewers don't bother and write off games without knowing how to play. The nostalgia. I remember playing this back in the day. I would say this is the game that really cemented my love for the RPG genre. It was a great game, fun, with lots of humor, some of it blatant tongue in cheek. It's amazing that they didn't do a sequel when so many lesser games did. The soundtrack was amazing especially for a gameboy game.

i couldn't agree more, i like how this game didn't take itself seriously a lot of times, along with some scenes and the food themed names, that ending was especially funny, like you said, the fact that they also let you see all the monsters stats at the end along with other stuff was a nice touch. The combat system was a fresh take, although i wish they worked a little on the sell option at the shops, since having a lot of space inventory is nice, but it coul also be a double-edge sword if you are not checking it regularly, still not that big of a problem. The soundtrack was okay and it had some nice tunes, although being honest there are other more generic like rpgs with amazing music compared to this one, but it still fits. Nice review!.
@hungrygoriya3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think the lightheartedness overall was a huge draw for me. I also appreciated how much inventory space there was after playing other games like Final Fantasy Legend or even Earthbound where things are so much ore restricted! Selling can always be better in my opinion and I think the best selling system I've ever seen is The 7th Saga where they tell you the trade value up front when you upgrade anything! So smart!

I loved this game! It honestly fired on pretty much all cylinders. If it had one flaw, it's the fact that I didn't enjoy having to map spells to the D pad. For instance, if I needed a healing spell, I usually could only use a high level spell that ate up too much MP or a lower healing spell that didn't heal enough. Still nearly perfect and a must play, though.

"Great Gluttony might have been a better name (than Great Greed)" If you think about it, the deadly sins of Gluttony and Greed kind of go hand in hand. Greed is about coveting something while Gluttony is about having unnecessary amounts of excess. If you're greedy you'll more than likely be gluttonous too. I do get your point though, but I'd have to argue that if a game is gonna be called "great Gluttony" then it better star the most gluttonous Nintendo character of all: Kirby. (Or maybe King DeDeDe since he DID steel all the food in Dreamland that one time.) I'm definitely gonna give this game a try.

Gameboy Rpgs always have a unique charm not matched by other systems. This one looks very interesting and the combat system sounds similar to Thousand Arms over on the PS1. You also have to love the odd naming schemes localizers employed way back when. Great Greed sounds like nonsense compared to the actual title, but that was just how things were done at the time.
@hungrygoriya4 ай бұрын
Oh Thousand Arms is similar? I'll have to look into playing that one soon then!
@sneakyskunk14 ай бұрын
@@hungrygoriya Thousand Arms is very much like this one. It is more a comedy than a serious Rpg story. I wont spoil anything, but the combat really is more or less the same as Great Greed. Only one character engages the enemy, and the other two party members contribute to combat by buffing the character engaged in combat. They also apply de-buffs to enemies. It is important to note that you can swap out the character fighting at any time with either of their supporting party members. If you are a fan of late 1990's to early 2000 anime comedies you will probably enjoy this one. It does end rather abruptly though. Hopefully you will enjoy it!

Few games have pulled me in with the title music as you put it . The original final fantasy was one along with dragon's lair for the Nes ( which while a horrible game had an amazing soundtrack). ( Edit) I think I fell in love with Maniac Mansion on the Nes at first listen of the title screen music, but then I new I'd love it as soon as I saw it in Nintendo Power. I also forgot the first Zelda as well
@hungrygoriya Жыл бұрын
Oooo I haven't played Dragon's Lair yet, but I'm familiar with the title screen music. Agreed 100% about that and Zelda 1. I also really adored The Battle of Olympus' title screen music as well.

@@hungrygoriya I think I wrote in another of your videos some of it's major flaws so I won't repeat them. I just beat it out of stubbornness and the fact that I worked for like a month to save up for it when it came out. I honestly don't think I've played a game where the hero had worse control, it's your time/ sanity though and maybe you could at least get a good video out of it

The food thing is common in Japan. I don't know why. I've noticed it here, Dragonball, The Frog For Whom The Bell tolls, Chrono Trigger, etc. It's also in many anime/manga from what I understand. My grandfather was Japanese so I once asked him and he just said "everybody likes food." I don't know if that covers it but it's definitely more common there than here, at least Speaking of The Frog For Whom The Bell tolls, have you played that one? You'd have to emulate it but I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. I still don't like the Ys-style "bump" fighting but otherwise it's exactly the kind of game I'm interested in
@hungrygoriya11 ай бұрын
It's a quirky and funny thing to include, at least! Could be worse or weirder! I haven't played The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls yet, but I do have a reproduction cartridge. I've been meaning to play it for a long time now and just haven't gotten around to it. Thanks for putting it back on my radar! I love bump combat!
@hezekiahramirez696511 ай бұрын
Oh, interesting! Okay, well I'll keep an eye out in case you ever do a video. I think what keeps me from enjoying the bump combat is I play adventure games to live out my lifelong fantasies of living in fantasy worlds doing cool fantasy things. It's kind of like the screen is a portal to another world I can interact with. It just removes one of the main reasons I'm there. I want to feel like I'm fighting the enemy myself. That's also why I prefer the action adventure side of the genre. Just my personal thoughts there

I found the game to be easy and the story was really good though some stuff are really odd like the record player dungeon. But this game is as good as you're going to get on gameboy or for this time that the game came out. The only thing that one should know when playing the game is maybe use that gamfaq guide cause I struggled beating the last boss until I used power and had rng on my side. Didn't want to grind more levels and made the mistake of selling my 2 useful skills that I didn't feel like they did anything. Luckily you can rebuy power in the last dungeons shop from what I remember. Kinda outdated game but a good game. Your review is what made me play the game. Great vid!
@hungrygoriya3 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you enjoyed your time with it. It's definitely a bit strange at times but I thought a lot of it was pretty humourous in terms of the places you visit and the things that happen. What does the guide say to do for the final boss? I don't remember the strategy now.
@wallacelovecraft89423 жыл бұрын
@@hungrygoriya To use power which powers up your attack and a defensive skill that I don't remember. Those main two skills make fights easy. The manual doesn't show anything about skills from what I remember.

@@wallacelovecraft8942 Yeah that's right! I learned that pretty late into the game since I was livestreaming and someone was kind enough to tell me about it. That's one complaint I have about RPGs in general: you never know what things do, and if they actually work well! So many buffs/debuffs don't work in other games.

Wow this actually looks really interesting! I was a little skeptical when I saw no menus, but it’s a really interesting idea for streamlining the battles. Honestly seems like an idea that could make a really fun mobile game just so long as they don’t fill it with mtx trash. Great video!
@hungrygoriya3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! This design took a bit more mindfulness than mashing attack in a "wait" battle scenario, but I loved the fast pacing of this game and its grind. I think you're right in that would translate well to mobile games... it'd be cool to see that!
