Thank you for making this video. I saw Minus One in December and I’m going to see Minus One Minus Color tomorrow. It’s one of the best Godzilla movies ever. I really like that they took the design from the top of the head of the Millennium Godzilla. It was always one of my favorite designs.

The destroyers used to sink Godzilla had the cannons removed from the turrets, as set by US policy of demilitarization of the country. It was a cool, subtle, detail that keeps cohesion with the period of the story. The movie also pays homage to the Japanimation movies "Grave of the Fireflies" and "The wings of Honnêamise" - where the same Shinzen fighter is used.

Takao-class cruisers had 200mm/50 (or 8") type 3 guns in its 5 turrets. The /50 designation is the caliber, which is different in big naval guns than small arms and is a measurement of the length of the gun barrels and is calculated by multiplying the diameter of the shell (200mm) by the caliber (50) giving a length of 10 meters or 32 feet. At the time of the their construction, the Takao-class had the largest guns of any heavy cruisers in the world.

I never thought of it from the perspective that the 20mm cannon wouldn't have permanently worked and that his heroic sacrifice would have been in vain in the same way a kamikaze attempt in the actual war would have been in vain
@54blewis10 ай бұрын
I throughly loved it,the human interest story was compelling and could stand on its own,especially the cultural aspects,the constant struggle of duty andself sacrifice against survival and salvation,the postwar angst,poverty, being alienated and alone.Another view of the movie is (in my opinion) that to a large extent the locals are basically on their own,there seems to be a fault line between the National government/authorities and the people at the ground level…and then there’s the patchwork family structure that is formed by an infant,a young woman and a distraught damaged young man all three are orphans….with a matronly neighbor who at first seems hostile and unforgiving but in reality a most humane and giving person.Finally there’s Godzilla himself,a brutal,unrelenting force,with no empathy for humanity,he cannot be reasoned with nor does it seem that he can be destroyed,it was up to the local community to salvage what’s left of their lives and homes even if it means many may have to lose their life but they also must struggle to stay alive against overwhelming odds…truly a great film….Hollywood should be ashamed of itself…

Even the bandage on Shikishima's head is an easter egg, it's a homage to Hiroshi Okumura from 1984 Godzilla (scene when he awake in hospital too).

@jessefonseca20429 ай бұрын
There was one more easter egg you missed. Both ships were destroyed by Godzilla (the Takao being incinerated by his atomic breathe) is an homage to the beginning of the original Godzilla movie. If you look carefully as to how the Takao gets obliterated, the sea lights up before Godzilla shoots his heat ray and incinerates it. Though both the US ship and the Takao were destroyed in different ways, it's still similar to the 1954 movie as Godzilla did the same thing in the beginning of the original. The difference is, the human characters found the survivors of the ship in the 1954 original, whereas in -1 the human characters found no survivors.

I spotted about half of the Easter eggs when I saw the movie so great work in breaking them down. As far as your English goes not bad a couple of odd word choices but pretty good better than a lot. control rods act to lower reactions when inserted, which is why his atomic breath charges when they are raised

@@monkeyman4346 That is the thing. Folks at Chernobyl were doing stress test by doing so. Things went out of control. They put all rods down in hoping to lower the reactions. Woah! I LOVE your suggestion that the U.S. may have wanted to redirect Godzilla from Japan to Russia. What a story that would make.
@nathanielschwartz4257 ай бұрын
13:36 Actually, that scene is an homage to the scene in the original film where the TV reporter is watching and filming Godzilla moving through the city and reports what he is seeing, telling the viewers "This is unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable. And yet, the unbelievable is happening at this very moment, right before our very eyes! Right now Godzilla is leaving behind a sea of flames! From Ginza-Owari to Shinbashi, Hamachi, Chiba, and Shinabara, it's all become a sea of flames! Now Godzilla is starting to move again! It appears that he is moving beyond the city limits! To all of our viewers, this is not a play or a movie! This is real! The most extraordinary story of the century! Is the world going to be destroyed by a two-million-year old monster?" The reason why it is an homage to that scene and not the one you mentioned in the video is because in the scene in Minus One, the reporters are watching Godzilla destroy Japan from afar just like the reporter in the original whereas the reporter in the TV Tower was actually being attacked by Godzilla.

I think the US pulling out of Japan was a combination of Soviet tension and Godzillas attacks on American ships, not so much the US was leading Godzilla. It a complaint I’ve been hearing because the US occupied Japan until 1952 so why didn’t they defend the country. I think it was because of tensions with the Soviet Union lead them not wanting to lose anymore ships so they left Japan to fend for themselves.
