At the Godzilla festival held last month, Director Yamazaki confirmed the black thing on Noriko's neck is G-cell (Godzilla's cells) which is what enabled her to heal her wounds. Check out Godzilla vs Biollante (1989) to see what happened when human and Godzilla cells were fused together.

I would say this movie has the potential to be top 10 of all time. Here’s why I say that there was almost no advertising for this movie but it’s made $78 million worldwide all by word-of-mouth. I think they did a little more advertising and let it run for another month it could be blockbuster territory. I know I’ve seen it five times and I have seen comments where people have seen it at least as many times if not more. It’s one of the greatest movies of all time.

Am writing this on 2/20/24. At 44:01 when Nick C says, "it's immaculate", I literally cry tears of joy because I feel the same way. This analysis/discussion of the film is Immaculate, u 2 just bring up so many hidden gems, thoughts, and ideas that are new to me and I've seen it 7 times. Cheers u 2 🥂 and keep up the wonderful work!!

The atomic breath scene was one step up from Shin Godzilla. I love how Godzilla hunkers down to do the breath. It seemed solid and realistic looking. The Jaws scene is perfection.

Just a little comment about a ship that we see during a time when Ensign Shikishima and the minesweeper crew are trying to deal with Godzilla. If I can nit-pick a little, it wasn't a destroyer. It was the Takao heavy cruiser, one of the very best and most powerful warships of the Japanese navy in WW2. There were only four of its class, which some have called the "spearhead of the Imperial Japanese Navy", and it did indeed survive the war. This is another reason why it was such an exciting moment. I think one of the many great things about this film is the amount of historical detail including some of the ships and planes we can see that are some very special ones from those days.

Some great observations from you guys & one of the more thoughtful reviews I have seen. Two nitpicks: German speaking audience members knew immediately about the ejection seat & it was already installed on the plane- but nevertheless the mechanic did have to point it out & explain it. Noriko's line is odd because she was not around to hear him say it- but it is so emotionally perfect it's allowed. My favorite film of 2023! I saw it twice in theaters & it was well worth it!

Definitely one of the best monster movies I’ve seen. The original 1954 classic remains the best as well as DaiMajin however.

One thing to remember it that mechanic had been sending his friends off to die as kamikaze pilots, but finally one of his pilots gets to come home alive

He does use it on the destroyer. You don't really see it, but that's what the blue glow in the water is about.

You guys obviously love this movie, as do so many others, and your easy going nature allows to make this point. I scream this in my head at every reactors mention of Noriko's sacrifice to save dude. if she tried to tackle him, chances are good they both would have been swept away. As fast as that shockwave was moving, those extra seconds it would have taken to grab and move him would have been too much. In my humble opinion. And as far as him finding her in the city of screaming people...we don't know how long he searched or how many places. He found her and I'm happy with that.😊

You guys need to do a full analysis of Shin Godzilla too, it's a masterpiece and, at least for me, is on the same level of this one. PS: Sorry my broken english.

[[Spoiler comment]] So far, at least, some practical effects, not a full CGI, or “a suit” seem to have been used in two scenes, partially: - Shinsei-maru chase scene (Godzilla head), and - Ginza walk scene (suit with CG overlay, a part or a stand still cut) The above info got from Japanese TV and Japanese KZbinrs… so, not really reliable, sorry.

Great film - but a Top 10 film of all time? Better let that percolate a bit before you elevate it into such heady company. Younger people especially tend not to have watched many classic films and are prone to elevate the latest as the greatest?

Let’s keep it civil. While Nick and I have certainly seen many, many classics, my personal thoughts on this film is it certainly competes with films like Jaws and Alien. I think this film will stand the test of time. It’s in my personal top 10, but I’d say All-Time it’s certainly worthy of a top 50 spot.

I liked Godzilla Minus One for what it was. But many KZbinrs are trying to make this movie into something that it is not .. a Masterpiece. It simply wasn't that great of a film. First off, all the best visual FX were shown in the trailer and tv spots. I can't help to feel this was a bait and switch .. a marketing gimmick. Then there is the ending of the film. I seriously felt that it lacked dynamics. SPOILER ALERT - For the big Godzilla takedown to work he had to remain still, and he did that. Appearing to stand in the water (deep water no less) and flail his arms and roar. It was the polar opposite of the Godzilla they showed earlier in the film .. swimming after and taking out naval warships. Sure, with some hand waving a flotilla of tug boats can quickly hook up and drag Godzilla to the surface .. but don't think about it too much. Also, he froze mid atomic breath so Koichi could deliver the bomb plane .. how convenient. As I said, the ending lets down the rest of the film .. as the Godzilla there isn't scary .. he's toothless. Finally the great story people are gushing over isn't that great with loads of cheesy moments and melodramatic over acting. Noriko must have been just a few yards away suffering in the Rubble and Koichi never looks for her body? Yes, he was distraught!! Yea.. don't think about it too much and it's a "Masterpiece" .. but there are far better movies that I think about all the time .. which critics hated .. but still far better than Godzilla Minus One.

It's one of better movies of the year and the best Godzilla movie ever, but not in the masterpiece class. Lawrence of Arabia, 2001, The Godfather are masterpieces, to name a few.
