I had the same reaction with you at first when I saw Noriko survive, but then saw the implied g-cells growing on her neck (i.e. Biollante). That would be the only explanation I can comprehend to be.

I agree with your opinion! I'm Japanese, so my English may be wrong. However, since I'm Japanese, I didn't need to watch subtitles. She definitely couldn't have survived that atomic breath. Until I saw the shadow extending from her neck at the end. The moment I saw it, I was shocked. She certainly couldn't have been saved at that time. And then I remembered. The content of the radio broadcast after Godzilla left Ginza... It was hinting at this cell.

I have a feeling also, that Noriko is going to have a very harsh life going forward, because if she has a combination of G cells and radiation poisoning in her, her body may have a hard time with constantly dying and regenerating. Could be potentially worse than death. And maybe that'll put us in the perspective of Godzilla too. Always in pain, but can never die.

One detail that I absolutely love (spoilers ahead, obviously) is the music. I think that something a lot of people forget is that the iconic Godzilla theme that we all know and love, Akira Ifukube wrote that piece originally for the Japanese Self Defense Forces, but it eventually just became the main theme for Godzilla. In Minus One, though, the only time that piece is played is when the destroyer ships move in to wrap Godzilla up in the explode-y wires. They played what was meant to be the military’s theme for the actual humans. The fact that they stuck to Ifukube’s original vision for the music is just mind blowing to me. Such a good decision.

Fun fact: Takashi Yamazaki directed a Movie called Always: Sunset on Third Street 2 back in 2007 where it opens up with a Godzilla attacking Tokyo back in the 40s dream sequence. He wanted that scene in because he was a big Godzilla fan. It’s crazy to see him directing a Godzilla film finally. He totally captured the essence of what Godzilla is. I’ve already secured my tickets to watch it a second time!

I'm Japanese, but I was moved by your review, so I'll comment in my poor English about why the heroine lived. The reason the heroine was alive is the Godzilla virus. The heroine's dazed state after surviving like a gymnast and climbing out of the sea is a foreshadowing, and the Godzilla virus is transmitted through the air. The bruise on the neck at the end is a foreshadowing. This work is also a film that criticizes the aftermath of the atomic bomb, the coronavirus, and Japanese politics.

I'm japanese too. Considering the past Godzilla films, the scenario of G-cell infection as an homage came to my mind first. I think there are several reasons why this is a rational assumption. However, I perceive a different scenario. This time, the homage to nuclear power was too strong. The blue light from criticality, the mushroom cloud, the black rain, all of these are indicative of it. These depictions remind me of her being exposed to radiation, surviving but suffering from radiation sickness. I imagined them as a family full of love, enjoying a brief period of happiness.

I'm posting this comment from Japan. I think you missed one thing. !!! SPOILER !!! !!! SPOILER !!! !!! SPOILER !!! !!! SPOILER !!! !!! SPOILER !!! Talking about how did the heroine survive after Godzilla's atomic breath. The very last scene of the movie is "Godzilla's cell division". And the scene just before that is the black bruise on the heroine's neck. It means that the girl got infected Godzilla's cell. And she survived because of the vital power of Gozilla's cell. That is very horrible ending.

I really love this film and i think it's perfect. Godzilla himself, story, humans, etc i dont think its the best Godzilla film but it is within my top 3 100%. Now I do have a minor problem with the film: Godzilla's character, don't get me wrong he's portrayed incredibly well in this film and I feel they went with the best direction for the film but despite that I feel He lacks something say Heisei and 1954 have and that's the sympathy/tragedy that makes Godzilla, Godzilla I simply lack the empathy and care I had for Heisei and 1954 which I do feel takes away from character depth, but I think the lack of empathy towards Godzilla in this film was the directors intent, not to mention the movie making me feel hatred towards Godzilla even fear. And that's why I love this film, it makes you feel.

There is a reason why Noriko could have survived from the Godzilla's atomic beam. The hint is a black bruise on her backside neck shown in the last scene of her. That means that she have taken in remains of Godzilla's meats in her body at the mess accidentally, and the power of the cell of Godzilla made her cured or regenerated her body. That's why she have survived from the destruction like "Godzilla". I am Japanese and found the behind plot from one of the move reviews in Japan. I am not sure what would happen to her later on with the cells of the monster.

Well I think that thing in her neck is probably the body parts of Godzilla. Since that monster has extreme healing ability, it explains why she was in good shape considering the disaster. If you hear close to dialogue after the disaster, the news reports mentioned about some bits of Godzilla’s flesh was scattered all over the city. Foreshadowing sequel maybe….?

Nah, I liked the happy ending of this movie. Including the revelation that Noriko (the main female lead) survived. These characters endured so much throughout the film and they were very well written and acted and their character arcs were perfect. They absolutely deserved the happy ending and I honestly think the movie up until that point was dark enough as it was that it kinda needed that payoff at the end. 10/10 movie from me and easily the best Godzilla flick I've personally seen.

Thank you for your wonderful review. I will explain Noriko's survival, which makes me wonder. Spoilers follow Scientifically speaking, Noriko's survival seems completely impossible. At first glance, this development may seem like it was added to give the drama a happy ending. At first glance, Noriko's symptoms appear to be relatively mild. But did you notice what looks like a black birthmark on Noriko's neck? Noriko's survival is not a simple happy ending. In the movie, Godzilla was shown to have the ability to self-regenerate. Noriko was not the only victim of the destruction of central Tokyo by Godzilla's atomic breath, and the number of victims would have been quite large. Noriko may have been seriously injured or killed by Godzilla's destructive power, but she may have been infected with Godzilla's regenerative ability and regenerated (this is called Godzilla Cell Infection). And Noriko isn't the only one to survive death by Godzilla. In addition, Koichi was exposed to black rain (radioactive rain) near the epicenter of the explosion and was exposed to high concentrations of radiation. The two will be able to reunite and confirm their mutual trust and deep love. I'm happy about that, but I think about the difficulties that stand in the way of their future happiness, and the complexity of the ending makes me cry. Godzilla cells are active inside Noriko's neck. Please check it out again in theaters.
@Junkecom

I am agree with you. In addition, in my funny opinion, (spoilers from here), in the train, Noriko was an only person near the mouth of Godzilla. She might inhaled the normal breath of Godzilla. However, on the island, some soldiers were bitten,so it’s contradictory.
@hamilsakurada
@hamilsakurada Жыл бұрын
@@Junkecom I'm a Japanese living in Tokyo. This entire comment is a spoiler. It feels like it took quite a few days for Noriko to leave, be considered dead, and be confirmed to be alive. Doesn't it take time for the body to regenerate, repair, and resume life activities? The bodies of the Japanese soldiers bitten by Godzilla on Odo Island were immediately determined to be dead the next morning, and Tachibana disposed of them. Although not depicted, cremations and burials were performed, and graves were probably built. However, they may actually regenerate after a few days. However, if it is buried in the soil, it cannot breathe and may not be able to reproduce. I guess it depends on the conditions. Infectious factors such as Godzilla's radioactivity and Godzilla cells may be caused by breath infection from Godzilla's mouth, but it seems that this is not the only factor. This time, Godzilla is shown to have the ability to self-regenerate, but I get the impression that Godzilla himself also suffers damage around his mouth when he emits radiant heat rays. The burns appear to heal themselves. It is probably assumed that they also receive some damage when destroying buildings. The background sound of a radio report is included in the scene where scientists are surveying the damage in the Ginza area of Tokyo, which was destroyed by Godzilla's radiant heat rays. "High levels of radioactivity have been detected in the Ginza area, and pieces of flesh that appear to be Godzilla's skin are scattered around, so entry is restricted." Without accurate English subtitles, only Japanese speakers may be able to understand. It is estimated that several thousand people were affected by the destruction caused by the radiant heat rays in central Tokyo. Although each case will be different due to differences in exposure conditions, it can be assumed that Noriko is not the only person affected by Godzilla cells and radiation. Although Godzilla has temporarily disappeared in this film, the serious damage caused by Godzilla has not. This is a plot that has the potential to expand in the future. This gives us a sense of the possibility of a direct sequel to "Godzilla-1,0" and its turbulent development. I applauded and enjoyed your review. You are very honest and accurate in your content, and you are also very expressive and wonderful. I have subscribed to your channel. I will cheer you on in your life. Become a wonderful creator.

I hope you read this. But if you looked closely when she was in the hospital bed she had a black scar on her back which seemed to be moving. Shin Godzilla's (even though theres no relation) final form is humanoid. If you look at the IMDB of Takashi Yamazaki he directed the live action Parasyte anime. Of course its all speculation. But there could be a "purpose" she survived.

In my second viewing of the film, the Ginza scene with Noriko still evoked strong emotions, underscoring Godzilla Minus One's theme of life affirmation. The narrative departs from traditional notions of self-sacrifice or dying with honor, evident in the inclusion of the ejection seat in the jet. Noriko's survival after the atomic blast from Godzilla serves to reinforce this life-affirming motif. As for a potential sequel, exploring the repercussions of her radiation exposure could be intriguing. Whether they maintain the grounded tone of Minus One or introduce elements where Noda or a scientist attempts to save Noriko, or she sacrifices herself to thwart a resurrected Godzilla, remains uncertain.

From Japan. Please watch GODZILLA-1,0 again. She woke up from her hospital bed with a black bruise on her neck. When GODZILLA fired her atomic breath in Ginza, she was blown away by a tremendous blast, But she was alive. It was definitely a blast of instant death level, leaving no trace behind. But she was alive. Why? When GODZILLA fired his atomic breath, he announced on the radio, 「Terrible radioactivity and pieces of GODZILLA's flesh are scattering all over the place.」that's right, She died in stantly, but was brought back to life thanks to the amazing regenerative ability of GODZILLA cells. You can understand this by watching the past GODZILLA movie, GODZILLA VS BIOllANTE. She lives fused with GODZILLA cells, That's scary. It is highly likely that not only her, but also other humans, animals, insects, plants, bacteria, and viruses are fused with GODZILLA cells. Gcell+moth=MOTHRA Gcell+(eagle or hawk)=RADON Gcell+spider=KUMONGA Gcell+prayingmantis=KAMAKIRAS Gcell+shrimp=EBIRA Gcell+rhinoceros beetle=MEGALO Gcell+(bacteria or viruses)=HEDORA Gcell+her+rose=BIOllANTE? There is a gender. Director Takashi Yamazaki has told TOHO executives that he will also make the next GODZILLA movie. GODZILLA-1,0 is fruly the scariest GODZILLA movie in history. And it is by far the best GODZILLA movie to date.

I enjoy most Godzilla films,. Yes even the corny ones made for kids/ films that turned Godzilla into a super hero Atomic Dino-monster Intent on fighting off the evil invaders.. But I have to say this really transcends from just being a giant monster movie. The original Goji was a very important films that taped the zeitgeist of a nation full of fear and despair and the horror of WAR and the destruction it caused. and helped communicate something from country to country though art. though cinema. The original Gojira (Godzilla) was a good film for it's time but cultural importance. You can even talk about if that kind of symbol turning into something sillier has a deeper meaning. But still no Godzilla since has been as anywhere near as good. Till G-1 It's deep. The actors all brought their A-game. the music was inspired by master in sound design and the music is mindful crafted into multiple scenes thematically. The anti-war and criticism of both governments'. Doing the jaws scene in a wat that was really well done. It looks amazing for the under 15m budget. The writing is just top notch. Watching this movie invoked for me The importance of cinema and art. I felt terror, pity and awe. I laughed along with the subtle jokes enjoyed the beautiful music and scene compositions I cried along with a theater full of other people and heard applause I haven't heard in a theater in many years at the start This was a film that made me interested in film again it was that good. Not just one of the best films of the year but one of the best films of the decade!!!

Godzilla-approved message. for those going through the comments, I've got good news. God is good because He gives His blessings to everyone, whether they be good or bad. but everyone has at least, told a lie, or stolen something in their life. and that makes them sinners, and God will not allow sinners in heaven; in His presence, because He is holy. so, God has to punish the sinners in hell, because God is severe and just. but God is also love and He made a way for some to be saved from His wrath. here are the steps: 1. admit that you're a sinner and are lost. 2. realize that the penalty of sin is death (hell). 3. believe that Jesus (who is God) died on the cross, was buried, then rose from the grave, to pay the penalty for man's past, present, and future sins. 4. trust Christ alone as your Savior, and not on your own good deeds to get you to heaven (nor a combination of your faith and self-righteous works). 5. pray to God NOW that you're accepting Christ's free gift of salvation because if you die before making this decision, it's too late, and you'll 🔥🥵😈 6. and to be a disciple, tell people about Jesus, read the bible, go to church regularly to know God's will for your life.
