Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the highly anticipated sequel to the Godzilla 2014 film by Gareth Edwards, and now that the Monsterverse has been firmly established, Godzilla is about to encounter his legendary Toho allies like Rodan and Mothra, and face off against his most fearsome nemesis, the Great King Ghidorah. Throughout the history of Godzilla, the world’s most famous monster has undergone significant Godzilla evolution, from the terrifying atomic emblem Gojira to the beloved protector he softened into, beginning with King Kong vs. Godzilla.
As Godzilla history marched on, the killer kaiju has faced more monsters than the Monarch organization can count, but in America, Godzilla has met with a mixed reception. From abandoned projects in the ‘80s to the disastrous Godzilla 1998, all the way to the upcoming Godzilla 2, Godzilla King of the Monsters looks like its continuing to buck the trend and giving us a Godzilla the entire world can be proud of. From the first Godzilla trailer, we knew these movies were more than just monsters, and since we saw the bestiary on display in every Godzilla King of the Monsters trailer, clip, and scene, our imaginations were in overdrive wondering how Godzilla vs. King Kong would play out in a post Kong Skull Island world. Hopefully Godzilla will continue to reign supreme, because it’s good to be the King.

I grew up in the fifties! Godzilla was my favorite back then and he still is to this day! Rodan gets a vote as second favorite, but, Mothra? Never did like bugs. Of course, not all Big G films were as good as the 1954 film that inspired the series that followed. My favorite version of the radioactive behemoth was the reptilian - looking incarnation from 1962.

Man I remember this kid in elementary school that was straight up obsessed with these movies. All he ever talked about was Godzilla like everyday. His face.would light up. Dude always use to bring over Godzilla tapes but I never got into it. Finally realizing now how iconic the character was!

I prefer the serious parts! Godzilla is a force of Nature and also a metaphor for the atomic bombs. He is both a protector and a destroyer. I don't mind the versus movies but I prefer Godzilla on his own

That's one of the best things about Godzilla. He can be whatever the film calls for. More serious? Keep the original tone like Shin Godzilla. More action-y? Make him a hero and put him against Ghidorah like so many different films. There ain't a lot of characters with range that wide you know

Final Wars is complete chaos but it’s entertaining as hell. Kane Kosugi is always good to see and for some reason Don Frye is there. Seeing Godzilla take out all monsters including 98 Godzilla is pretty awesome.

While the classics will always be nostalgic, the new Monsterverse version is my favorite. Something about him is just so awesome. I like the take on Godzilla being a stabilizer to the ecosystem and only really surfacing when he needs to balance everything out. It just feels so much more natural.

I just left the theater 20 minutes ago and I’m speechless. I’m so happy that not only is Godzilla getting more attention, but so are all the other monsters. King Ghidorah, Mothra, Rodan, Kumonga, possibly Anguirus, etc.. I love the Heisei era Godzilla the most. Excellent continuity and a better, more serious mood really well it. As for animated shows, the 90s Godzilla: The Series was awesome. It made that Godzilla (Zilla) much more similar to his classic incarnations and had epic monster battles tied to a human driven plot. It's honestly worth watching from beginning to end. They did clever things with a Mechagodzilla concept that blew my mind.
