Oh man, I sunk *hundreds* of hours into this game as a kid. It was the only Godzilla ANYTHING I owned, and I had a blast (we also didn't have many games in general lol). I remember the menu section that had a bunch of the concept art, test animations, and even trailers for Godzilla movies, and the concept art itself I think was what helped push me into wanting to do that as a kid. Yeah, the controls were jank, and the game was also INCREDIBLY buggy, but when you're a kid with not many video games and no point of reference, all you really care about is "big monster smash hahah" (King Caesar was my main, I miss him. Bring him back)

I think my aunt worked on the Wii version of this. She used to work for Backbone in Vancouver up until they closed down and I remember that her biggest highlight was going down to Oregon to work on a Godzilla game. After looking into the game, I'm like 90% sure she animated Mothra (from remembering her showing me the Maya animations she had saved) for this game. Gotta love this small world stuff.

But not to seem like a "my dad works at Nintendo" guy, if you look in the credits of this or a backbone entertainment staple "death jr and the science fair of doom" for a Carrie (last name withheld cause Internet).. it should be there.

It's still insane to me that, not only how popular Godzilla is now, but for the last several years (pretty much since the first Legendary and Shin) that there's been nothing since Godzilla PS4... that was delisted. Like...HOW?! That Eva x Godzilla april fools led to some killer designs and figures that would make awesome skins, the Shin design, and now Minus One. Just nuts there's been no new games.

There's one in the pipeline, but it's a 2.5D platformer or something from the Castle of Heart guys. Not even announced as a footnote at a gaming expo. It was revealed at one of those trade expos where they announce merch partnerships and such.

Yeah man I find it so bloody insane there hasn't been a new Godzilla game that isn't the King of the Monsters guest starring in other games, it doesn't even need to be a AAA budget/priced title either, like a budget title of the single or AA at most would be enough, make it brawler or a fighter that's what I feel Godzilla at least game wise is best at. Not to mention more recently Rise of Kong that infamous piece of shovelware by Gamemill I can imagine didn't give much confidence in Toho or Legendary on taking on another Monster Mash type game, so it's the problem of finding talent that is willing to take on such a task and are passionate enough to pull it off, maybe Wayforward since they do have a history with the character on the GBA making quite a banger there.

Godzilla is at its peak right now. Minus One has done supremely well for itself and Godzilla X Kong is off to a great start, becoming the Monsterverse's highest opening day. They even have more kaiju they could use from the Monsterverse like the two Mutos, Behemoth, Tiamat, Skar King, Shimo and hell, throw in their versions of Rodan, Mothra, Ghidorah, and Mecha, as well as every version of Godzilla, from 2014 to Evolved. I'm certain it would sell really well.

Because of TOHO's inaction, there's actually a small community that's been taking apart Save the Earth and putting it back together to make a mod which includes new monsters called Godzilla: Save the Earth Melee. The project has been around for a while but they've finally made headway into a working build which is set to come out sometime this year! Penguin0 even watched a tournament they had a while back on a much older test build they released a while back. It's the best shot we're going to have in regards to a new Godzilla game that isn't a crossover or a 2D chess game so check it out!

Great Video! I did the art duties on the Colossal Kaiju Combat trading game cards. I worked on all 6 sets as well as the comic book. I think the comic book was printed up in limited numbers for G-Fest. I was honored to have had the chance to work on so many original characters from the CKC fan base. It's a shame that the IP didn;t survive in some form or other.

Played the Wii version for the longest time, but the motion controls prevent me from ever wanting to revisit it. Fortunately, there've been a number of dedicated fans who have created mods to map the inputs to traditional controllers (to varying degrees of success), among other quality of life updates. I remember hanging out at my local Hollywood video as a kid where they had that exclusive gaming area, and it was like 3 pillars, 3 TV’s each pillar, and different consoles to each tv(some doubled) and they didn’t have demos to play, they had the entire games you could chill and play. I discovered kingdom hearts there, blinx, sly cooper, so much more AND Godzilla unleashed, such great memories man.

I actually had all three versions of Unleashed. First for the DS, then for the PS2 and then for Wii. I played all versions and found something to love about them. My first KZbin videos were from these games. I was very good at them, but no video survived on this platform. If you've seen videos of this game back in the late 2000s, then there's a chance, they were from me. (Not every gameplay in this video is from the original release of the game. There are big fans of these games modding them with outstanding passion.)

I remember when my parents got us a wii for Christmas back in 2007, Godzilla Unleashed was the first wii game I bought myself. By that point I'd seen all the reviews and everything, but I just wanted a game where I could play as godzilla monsters, and we'd only had a Sega Genesis and N64 before that. I could have gotten Destroy All Monsters Melee, but picked Unleashed because it had so many more monsters. I honestly remember Unleashed being my favorite game for years. I unlocked everything in it (no small feat), and me and my brothers and friends had so many Godzilla Unleashed parties. It was a huge part of my childhood. I even somehow got acclimated to the terrible controls. I tried picking it up a few years ago and...yeah, the controls are really terrible. As a kid who loved Godzilla though, I didn't even notice.
