My 8th Air Force rulebook is signed by Bob! I backed the KS, too, and received a game without the rulebook! So not only did they immediately send the rulebook but Bob took the time to sign it and wish me good luck -- class act! I'm really looking forward to trying this -- based on your recommendation I went with the 4-pack and got Save South Vietnam and Save Afghanistan, too.

Bob is a top notch class act, yes! That's great that you've got all 4 now, a fun pack of games!

Very happy for you to bring one of these to the channel for a playthrough - I'll be happy with either. That said I did like the addition of research in the 20th Air Force game.
@ZillaBlitz8 ай бұрын
Yes, the research element of 20th Air Force seems to add a bit to the game, but I think either will a lot of fun. The fighter vs fighter combat of the 8th Air Force will be an interesting element of the European game.

I vote for 8th but 20th is good for me too: My father enlisted in the Army Air Corps (1942), age 18, and served as a gunner and radio operator on B-17s. He was assigned to the 8th Air Force in England and flew 35 combat missions over Europe. Including one shown as "SECRET" on his papers. The records for many crew members were lost during a fire at Fort Benjamin Harrison. His brother, age 20, was a Navy aviator flying in the Pacific area: his plane was shot down . The bad news was wired to the family, who were surprised three months later when he walked in the front door in his Navy uniform. My father had left the service at the end of the war and worked as a TV/Radio engineer. He was called back to duty for the Korean conflict but didn’t have to deploy; and stayed with the new US Air Force. He retired in 1968 after 26 years of active duty and died in 1976. Regards

Thanks for the great family histories. Their service was so important. I can only imagine how scared I would be up there.

I voted for 20th air force because I like less explored battles and wars (Korean block wargame when?) but it looks like we’ll see some dogfighting over Europe. No worries, whatever we vote we’ll see ZillaBlitz play an awesome boardgame 😊
@ZillaBlitz8 ай бұрын
The vote has not gone the way I thought it might so far, but we'll see where it goes in the next few days. I thought 20th Air Force would win, but 8th Air Force is out to an early lead. :)

After many MANY hours of SSVN Ive wanted to try one of these. Fortress games seems to challenge their players and I enjoy that. Ive seen both played but lean towards 8th AF to buy.

Nice to hear from another fan of SSV. What a marvelous game. :)

To me watching a playthrough on YT the story is most interesting. Concerning this a simpler bombing system isn't a big deal, but having more month and tasks is. So I a would like to see 8th Air Force on your channel.
@ZillaBlitz8 ай бұрын
Thanks, it looks like the 8th Air Force might win. :)

hard to vote. they look both amazing. and look like a great entry into the game genre. I have been following you for awhile and haven’t decided which game to get to jump into it. the rule set on these seem to be helping me finally decide. I am an avid axis and allies player. but been wanting something a little more. my grandfather was a medic for the invasion of dday. the days leading up to this he said everyone was bored and antsy. He told me the pilots started doing dares and he watched a couple of pilots to full 360 with their b-17s. He said there was one in particular that he thought would nose dive. but pulled up with only about 200 ft to spare. thanks for all the video content. this is probably my first official comment on your page. but really really like your content.
@ZillaBlitz8 ай бұрын
Yes, I think either game should work great, so not a bad choice in here. :) And wow, 360s in a B-17? That's hard to imagine, and I'd think a fairly decent way to end your war service quickly. Glad to hear it turned out okay. :) Thanks for posting your first comment, Kip!

Ha! 8th Air Force was off to an early lead last time I looked, we'll see how this goes. :)

There were two P51 groups based on Iwo Jima starting on March 1945. A P47N group joined the in the summer of 1945. These were not reinforcements from the 8th Air Force.

Just make sure you pick up the right one - I picked up a copy of Eighth Air Force on e-Bay, only to find that it's a Wild Blue Yonder module, and thus a very different (and not very solitaire-friendly) game :)
@ZillaBlitz8 ай бұрын
Oopsie! That sounds like not the one you want. :)

Both look like very good games, probably will not be able to get hold of copies, although picked SSV, which I must get around to playing. Voted for 20th. Many thanks

Nice in-box reviews (as always!). How do you think the replayability will be for these games?
@ZillaBlitz8 ай бұрын
That's a great question, I'm not sure. I think the one main variant in each game (jets in 8th, no atom bomb in 20th) will provide some replay, but I'm not sure how different each campaign will be. The difficulty will certainly be a factor, too. Hard to tell, really, for me at this point. :)

Great video. I have both these games. I prefer 8th Air Force. It's just a more versatile game. Both are great though.
@ZillaBlitz8 ай бұрын
Interesting, thanks! 8th Air Force is winning the vote now, so maybe that'll be the game that I do for the replay. Can I ask you how long it takes to play the full campaign?

@@ZillaBlitz It took me 3 - 4 hours in my second game. My first game took a lot less, but that's because I condceded early. If you make too many mistakes, you are sunk.
