The U-boat you rolled - U-9 - was the U-boat that sank the British cruisers Aboukir, Cressy and Hogue at the beginning of the war, signaling to the world the deadly threat U-boats posed. Her commander was Otto Weddigen, who happens to be the commander who appears on the fan-made "dress-up doll" you're using in the game. So you are indeed off to an auspicious start with this career.

Oh, that is great intel, thanks so much. I'll mention this in Episode 2. (I've already filmed Episode 1, it'll go up tomorrow if I can get the editing done today.) I had read about the three ships getting sunk but had no idea it was the U9 or that the U9's commander was the same commander we are using on that player aid. That's very cool indeed.

Highly recommend the Reavers of the Deep addon available in the BGG Files section. really adds a lot to the 'cruiser rules' and also if you want to take a ship a prize.

Great game and thank you for your hard work on the video. A name suggestion for your U-5...."Schwerfisch" Which translates to "Swordfish." I thought that would be cool because the fish uses it's spear-like front to impale it's prey! One pronounces the name..Sch-vair-fish. Hope this helps the U-5 crew.

@@ZillaBlitz I thought it has a nice ring to it too! I am very happy to finally have hard copies of the entire ww2 series. I have played The Hunters and Silent Victory on vassal but its not the same and I feel scummy playing games I don't own on vassal. I did just recently get Western Front Ace which is excellent! Would love to get Raiders of the Deep as its a similar yet vastly different experience from the Hunters series.

@@ZillaBlitz Some point in the future I would love to build a scale model kit of either a ww1 or ww2 U-Boat and build a seascape base for it. I felt they captured the nature of ww1 aerial combat in Western Front Ace. Definitely was worth the hefty price tag.

A medal in the backstory is a rescue medal. Interestingly obscure and it allows a player to add some personal flavor to the officer’s history determined by the D20 roll. Did he rescue someone during some training that went bad? Was it saving a fellow crew member from choking on a dumpling in the officer mess? Vague mentioning of a medal provides a fun moment for those players looking to dive a little deeper.
