hex shaped counters, that really adds to the task of corner clipping!

Haha! Fortunately they are all individually set in their sheets, so no clipping required. :)

Yes, I do wish I had selected a German formation with some smoke capacity, but if the German armor can start shooting well they might still have a path forward. :)

@@ZillaBlitz yes. And I think joint fire is important for the germans

For some reason I thought that was just limited to infantry squads, but you can use joint fire for armor too, right?

Got it, thanks. That farmstead in particular looks to be a tough nut to crack. I'd like to knock out that Stuart and the ATG first, and then maybe draw in closer with the two German tanks and lay waste to the farmhouse with combined fire.@@assaultgames167

Enjoyable play through thus far, believe I would be trying to grab the lower objective if I were the Germans, but what do I know. Some of us are still using a wooden ruler for los, like the idea of laser light. Many thanks.

That laser sight is super helpful I'm finding. It's a touch thicker than I would like, but on the whole really nice.

Really liking the mechanics of this system. 22:20 I really think the Tiger should have shot the Sherman rather than the already incapacitated Stuart. The amazing defense roll for the Stuart probably made that a moot point. Looks like the Germans should go after the other US VP area now?
@ZillaBlitz
@ZillaBlitz 10 ай бұрын
Now that’s an interesting idea, to go for the original US position. Got me thinking!

I could see that working, yes. Especially for the armor, but you could add names to the squads too, as their leader, for sure.

Really like this system but I'd like to see a solitaire system added.
@ZillaBlitz
@ZillaBlitz 10 ай бұрын
I can understand that. I am finding that playing both sides works really well for solo. Not the same thing, for sure, but it's definitely a solo amenable system.

Nice video. Some interesting elements to the system. That said, way too fiddly for me. It's an interesting design question of where and why (what for) complexity shows up. And whether it's necessary or there's a simpler way to do the same thing. Often chrome gives flavor, but adds unnecessary complexity. In other words, the core system works without it. As in optional rules. In this case, the complexity seems baked into key parts of the system. Hope you'll address this when you sum up your feelings on game play.

I have a number of thoughts on the game, yes, and I’ll try to address them after this ends. :)

@@ZillaBlitz Great. Didn’t mean to detour the discussion. I was watching ardwulfslair's live stream tonight and your name came up via the GMT newsletter. People said you were a nice guy with a great channel. Both true. Great way to network if you've got the time.

No worries on the detour, it's very relevant. I'm still formulating thoughts on the complexity, especially with regards to ranged fire, and they are still morphing as I play more. :) Oh, that's very nice to hear about the stream. Thanks for sharing, it's always nice to hear things like that. Ardwulf has such a great channel and community. I try to watch other streams and episodes as I'm able, but to a certain degree with the time I have available I can either make stuff or watch stuff. :)

@@ZillaBlitz I figured you had to make a choice. The Monday show is a strange crowd. The highlight for me, besides ardwulf who is incredibly thoughtful and non-dogmatic, is that Mark Herman often shows up in the chat. His takes are very interesting. Last night, the main discussion topic - game scale and its implications - was a very important topic, but it never really got traction. Herman mentioned he was thinking of adding the 7 Days battles to Rebel Fury 2. I asked how you can mitigate the problem of the Union being wildly wrong about Confederate strength. Herman didn't answer, but a guy who works on GMT's GBACW made a couple points, basically saying that without putting a leash on McClellan there's no game. I thought that if anyone could find a solution it would be Mark. For me it's like meeting at a bar with buddies once a week. But I'm not creating content. Besides the networking, hard to know what you'd find valuable. For me games are a combination of a knowledge representation problem with decision making under uncertainty. That's what I spent 18 years trying to understand. Still trying. My approach is Socratic. What can we know and what do we do with that knowledge. Wargames present many provisional "solutions" to that problem in real world contexts, unlike abstract games like chess and go. Your videos and musings, especially mistakes when learning a new system, help me think through the tradeoffs. Thanks.

I really like listening in on those weekly sessions when I can, but there are a lot of creators who I like so I tend to spot consume things after the fact as I'm able. I also like the recordings because I can adjust the speed of the video playback. I definitely learn a lot: new games, thoughts on game quality, systems, design approaches, etc.
