When Geoff starts singing, whew! It's like sinking into a perfectly heated bath, it just envelops you and soothes you, and is so relaxing. And then his higher register is like a refreshing drink. It took a smidge of warming up (pardon the pun) to this one, because, as you say Zach, this song has many ties to it. But I do love it, I'd be lying if I said otherwise. And you described it perfectly. 💙

Geoff's arrangement and delivery is always fantastic. This was never a song that I was attached to, in fact, I would never go out of my way to listen to it. And I was around when it was written. I just watched the original video; Geoff even paid homage to it. John had a white piano in a totally white room, he and Yoko were dressed completely in white. The touches of color that Geoff added make a great difference.

There are some songs where you have to completely forget the original and appreciate them for what they are. I had to do that a few covers over the years. But music inspires people to create and everyone creates differently. Thank you for your honest opinion. That's why I watch your channel.

He definitely wanted to pay homage to the original before making it his own. I like that you didn't just shoot it down. Loved hearing your explanation how it's sometimes hard to like covers of much beloved songs, but that it can grow on you.

When he released it, I made a similar comment. There are parts of this I don't like as much as the original, but that doesn't mean I don't love this cover! Honestly, there is nothing this man can't sing, and the more I hear it, the more I love it. 💙

Yup… you do know that Juliana haha. 😆 I agree with you! I had to take a moment with this one. But it definitely grows on you! Geoff actually had something else planned for this month, but things changed so this arrangement was mid-month switch! He did a good job with it. 👏🏻

I felt the same with Wicked Game. First hearing, I was dubious that I would ever love it but each time I liked it better until it’s now one of my favorite covers. This one grows on you like that too. I’ve been listening all week on Patreon and I think it’s great. Full disclosure, though, not a big John Lennon fan vocally.

That is the nature of covers. Some folks will like them, some not. I appreciate them for the artistry involved in their production. and a glimpse of how the original music inspired the cover artist. As with most everything, its all subjective. Covers are not copies, and IMO, that is a good thing.

It's a message for today, as much as it was in 1971. And beautifully done. Another reactor I just saw said he didn't like the original, or the Beatles voices but then he didn't like the message of the song either I think. Oh well Can't win 'em all. :) PTX did a very clever cover of the song but Geoff brought the emotion. I understand, some VP have done I couldn't warm to for similar reasons. Having said that, I can appreciate the artistry nonetheless.

I share the same feelings. I know, some had the same with Geoff's "Wicked Game" version. When I listened to Geoffs Imagine version the first time, I wasn't sure what to think about it. But the more often I hear it, I like it more. The version itself -without doubt- is beautiful, but I was not ready for it. It was vice versa for me with "The Sound of Silence" by Geoff. I liked that from the first note to the last. But "Imagine" is so founded in my brain - and I really don't know other versions that are not "copied" in style. For the moment, I stick to "I like Geoff's version, but it's not my favorite song from him." 😊

I appreciate the lyrics of the original; it's a bit "sing-songy" for this old heavy metal gal. Geoff often takes songs that I would never enjoy and makes them interesting and allows another layer of appreciation for the original.
