I prefer the fusions BEFORE the retcon. The way the fusions worked seemed fine to me: Potara was a stronger fusion but was permanent which meant that using them was a huge gamble and the fusion dance was weaker and had a time limit but could be used more loosely granted that you performed the dance correctly. But now that BOTH Of THEM have a timer then what's the damn point? Like who cares that Potara is stronger? It's harder to pull off since now you need the consistent help of the Kais to provide a set of earrings in order to use that fusion method, meanwhile the fusion dance can be performed at literally any point and doesn't require the need of outside help constantly supplying you with magical god earrings. Not to mention how easy the Potaras are to destroy which limits their usage even more.

Another weakness both fusions would have is the dance you can not transform into more powerful states as it will burn through you're time limit gotenks had 10 mins in ssj3 gogeta had 5 to 1 min in ssj4 (unless you have perfect ki control as gogeta would have split the moment he went blue) while the earrings you have to avoid using to much power as both kelfa and vegtio burn through their time because the power output

talking about the earring being easy to break, remember how in the dbs anime, fighters from universe 2 failed to do a potara fusion because someone shot a blast at their direction and the shock wave accidentally broke the earring, at least with the dance, you can just keep trying to do it even if someone stops you once

I always interpreted them as relative equals power-wise, but Potara is a way easier and stable method. We've seen what happens when the Dance isn't *pixel-perfect*. You lose an entire hour of possibly saving the universe.

To be fair if you wanna scale Gogeta over Vegito (DBZ), you can bring up the fact Goku transforming shook the entire afterlife which is multiple universal sized dimensions, and Janemba being so powerful that it breaks the laws of life and death, because in the movie there’s scenes where the villains from hell die and are immediately brought back to life because Janemba has control over the concept, and that’s just a weaker form of Janemba so Super Janemba and Gogeta scale above Buuhan and Vegito based on feats of weaker versions of themselves, this also makes sense as to how Gogeta has a “Big Bang” of Ki because he’s powerful enough with just transforming to give off that level of energy.

It happens offscreen, goten days “I never knew there was a level beyond super saiyan” followed by “I feel like it used up all my energy”. Trunks then says “I guess it’s weakness is time. We could only do it for 5 minutes. It even cancelled our fusion” I agree with your interpretation of the percentile limits for both fusions. Vegito didnt defuse against Buuhan because he wasnt trying, much like how Gogeta was just finessing Broly, whereas in cases where they’re expending a lot of energy relative to base (Vegito Blue trying to kill an immortal, or Gogeta using SSJ4 against omega shenron in GT) they both have been shown to defuse early, which is consistent with the Gotenks scan.

I rate Gogeta more, and even though I would like to believe that line that they are basically equal... logically, Vegito will have a slight advantage. With Potara, you just clip them on. With the Dance, you gotta match each other's max power. So if Goku is stronger than Vegeta or vice versa, that difference would play a huge factor. I love Gogeta, but if it's an all in, full power match: Vegito barely takes that W. Great video btw

Personally I like both fusions and would say throughout the series they are relatively equal, whenever we see Gogeta he always delivers and gets the job done but we have seen more of what vegito can do therefore he could be scaled easier than Gogeta but I still like to think the are atleast around equal, although I do like the kinda head canon that Gogeta can expend all his power without worrying about a time limits while vegito has to be more careful and it kinda makes sense too cuz vegito’s fusion is magic and with too much power that magic or spell can be broken while Gogeta’s fusion is simply a technique some random amount of power won’t just break it cuz it’s not how it works, overall both fusions are cool but I wish Gogeta could get more time to shine so maybe we could really see who wins but I won’t care fo it that much tbh

Is the “rival boost” an actual power boost though? I always took it to mean Goku and Vegeta compliment each other due to the rivalry more than if they chose to fuse with anyone else, not that the fusion multiplier gets an additional power boost.

@@Zeldic364 Yeah pretty much. My interpretation of it is that while still separate beings, the very essence of what a rival is happens to be that they are always motivating each other to improve. Goku always trains to outdo Vegeta and Vegeta always trains to outdo Goku. Therefore, when they fuse this drive to outdo each other is represented in the fusion by bumping up the power of the fusion proportional to the strength of their rivalry. It's basically sorta like a potential unlock.

In my opinion: Vegito > Gogeta The reason behind vegito gets unfused vs zamasu is because ssj blue wasn't perfect and wasted too much energy, as we can see in the manga several times in different arcs, and gogeta's presentation goes after tournament of power, where ssj blue was already perfected, meaning they don't have an energy waste. If we had an actual Vegito and an actual Gogeta, Vegito would last an hour as it should, and also having more power for being a divine technique.

What made Vegito amazing in the Buu arc was that he didn’t have to go all out. Ssj was all he needed. If Buuhan was any real trouble to him, he could’ve gone up to ss3 and finished him for good, but that wasn’t really his goal. If Gogeta was the last option, I believe he’d have not much trouble either. When we look at Vegito in the Goku Black arc, he used Blue which was his strongest form. His final attack was meant to obliterate Zamasu completely. I think that he could’ve destroyed zamasu’s body, but he’d need to use 100% and then some to insure that regeneration would be impossible. Since he used up a lot of energy, he exhausted himself without realizing it. Blue isn’t as demanding as ss3, but if a saiyan fights for a long time or uses a full power attack, they’re not going to be as effective as they were when they started fighting. I know he’s not all that relevant, but Gotenks’s final fight with Super Buu showed that when a fusion fights at 100 percent, it can expire quickly. Gogeta is just as effective as Vegito, but he seems to use his time and energy more wisely. I mean we’ve only gotten one canon appearance, but I don’t think his victory over Broly makes him better. Gogeta and Vegito are equals for now. Until they both face an opponent worthy of their absolute best, there’s no point in debating.

Well, most of the statements about potara weren't really that clear:Kaioshin just said that the effect is greater than fusion but a few pages later, he just says that separating is just one of the weaknesses that potara fusion don't have, so it could refer to that, the only confirmations come from daizenshuu 7 and chouzenshuu 4(which copies daizenshu 7's), before that, the statement was just "the effect is greater than fusion"

Broly isn't stronger than Jiren one debunk is Goku saying Broly might be stronger then Beerus while Goku thinks Jiren is superior to Beerus via Whis statements and the other is the Kanji ( 敵 ) "Teki" which has multiple meaning like "opponent" "enemy" "rival" "danger" "adversary" so specifically saying it's one size fits all is disingenuous and we'd have to rely on context to determine which would be the most likely to be true. Since Jiren is brought up as an opponent in a tournament and he's just fighting to save his universe and wasn't really treated like a villain till the very end where he tried to kill the gang, but Broly throughout the movie is treated as an enemy from the perspective of the main cast, he's coming down with Frieza who is the most Db villain there is and proceeds to attack Goku and Vegeta for no reason other than being under Frieza's order which would make him appear as a villain. So it's the same Kanji but via different context it means two completely different things so it can't be used to say Broly is superior to Jiren.

I believe the metamoran fusion multiplier might scale based off of the 2 individuals characteristics, which is why Gogeta is this unstoppable force of nature but Gotenks is MUCH less of a boost. But while this may put the multiplier above normal potara, there is still the rival boost which should put Vegito above Gogeta in raw power. Even if you don’t agree Vegito has much better skill feats, with words alone he can directly target your morale and lower your Ki output, he basically made Buu 10x stronger just to force him to realize he needed to absorb him, and of course in the manga, intimidated Zamasu so much his immortality regeneration actually slowed down in their slow conflict. Also Vegito is stated to be the perfect warrior and has a longer time limit. Vegito should be stronger and even if you disagree Vegito is arguably more skilled and has a longer time limit so whichever way you slice it, Vegito solos.

Haven’t the video yet but my understanding of Vegito vs Gogeta was always that Vegito was stronger pre Super. But now post Super Vegito still is the stronger fusion but doesn’t have a reliable timer for said fusion. Whereas Gogita is slightly weaker, the timer is always going to be 30mins so it ends up being the better fusion overall because it’s more reliable with the timer. We’ll see how the video matches with that.

Metamoran fusion still abides by the rules presented before, where excessive power use still cuts the fusion timer down significantly. Gotenks wasn't able to sustain ssj3 for even 10 minutes. It seems that no matter the method of fusion, the time your allowed to stay fused is dependant on energy output.

Funny, how the Potara fusion is just Vegeta's outfit over Goku's, but the fusion dance actually makes them look a bit more godly. Gogeta looks stronger and looks like he had no limits to his power. Vegito always lost his edge in every fight and beat as many people as Vegeta has. While Gogeta has won his only canon fight he's been in.

I ask this since yes, the title of the episode does call him “The Ultimate Enemy”, but that was during the ToP. I always peeped it as the Fusion Dance being more unique and 'powerful' in the sense that the two fusing Had to be of equal power, etc, therefore the merger being more complete.. Whereas the Potara Fusion can be done by anyone, also making the merger weaker if the other one wearing the ring doesn't stand up to the other. Old Kai said the reason Vegeto was so powerful was because Goku & Vegeta were Saiyans, near equal strength and rivals. And, Yes, I'm a Gogeta fan 😅 A Goku with the no-nonsense of Vegeta is terrifying, ala Super Broly.. Once he turned Blue, Broly didn't lay a hand on him.. Broly would've Decimated Merged Zamasu.

The potara is definitely a more convenient fusion the fact that the people dont have to harmonize with each other gives it a huge advantage if you consider that every failed attempt at doing the dance costs 30 minutes as a weaker fighter the 100% success rate of potara fusion is where I think the advantage is, I personally believe both fusions have the same power potential

Thank you for clarifying this for the fans. Tho debate was never this out of control back in the day. It was always known that vegito was the stronger fusion and the fan favorite. But ever since the broly movie came out, a lot of the casual fans switched up and started being toxic. It doesn’t help that super helped nerf vegito on top of that.

Vegito against Zamasu was giving his all, and Gogeta was never in a position of weakness, tiredness, or any other sign that it was possible to defeat him. I don't know how much the canon about Gogeta's time and metamorus fusions may have changed, but regardless, Gogeta always uses his time with a guarantee of victory. The most threatening thing about Gogeta has also always been his techniques, which Vegito has no access to, and is unaware of, probably being magical, and coming from the Metamorus, as well as his clothes, with the Soul Punisher as the greatest example, and Gotenks having the kamikase ghosts , with perhaps Gogeta being able to use the same technique if he wanted

Gotenks uses ss3. Gotenks claims they defuse after 5 minutes. Its clear both fusions defuse once using too much ki. Gogeta never defused vs broly or janemba because he never had to really try he was finessing broly and one shot janemba.

I have a counter point which got retconned away real quick: I don't remember which translation it was, but back when GT was released (and not yet obliterated into being not canon), the zenkai boost was still acknowledged. You all remember that yes? Well, SSJ4 (those glorious ape men) were stated to be "peak Saiyan potential" at that time... Well, due to the nature of having a zenkai boost, OG ssj4 gogeta technically held infinite power ; you can't peak if you can always get stronger, even if it meant almost dying to do it. That said, I dunno how it works out, but there's two sides to this now: either the zenkai boost is constantly activating due to the supposed "peak" nature of ssj4, or every time gogeta gets unfused (which is technically his "death"), he'll get even stronger upon refusing. Of course, I could simply be wrong, but these technicalities do exist. I don't know if SSGSS has the same attribute, so I won't claim anything absolute in this case, but it's certainly something to think about (at least pre-modern DB)

Asking who's stronger is stupid from a realistic standpoint since there cannot be two pairs of Goku and Vegeta existing in the same timeline (unless it's SDBH, not counting that one) Only one between Gogeta and Vegito can exist at any given point, so they'll never meet in the first place The purpose of the two fusions' existence is that of an ultimate trump card that Goku and Vegeta can use on rare occasions to overcome enemies that they can't hope to by themselves In this regard, both Vegito and Gogeta do a fantastic job of eradicating strong foes Who cares which one is stronger between the two, both have their own pros and cons Vegito is a result of Goku's power being multiplied with Vegeta's power (in other words, Goku x Vegeta), and as such he is superior to his Metamoran counterpart from a pure battle-power perspective; but the Potara earrings themselves aren't gonna be available in Goku and Vegeta's pockets like Senzu beans 24/7, and they're also easy to break with just a single Ki blast (we also saw how Gohan failed to catch them and ultimately got devoured by Buu because of that blunder); Vegito's time also gets shorter the stronger the form he uses is Gogeta is a result of Goku's power and Vegeta's power being added together and an unknown great number multiplying the resulting power on top of that (in other words, unknown great multiplier x (Goku + Vegeta)), so his con is that his power isn't as great as Vegito's; on the other hand, his time doesn't seem to get shorter even if he uses a crazy transformation like SSB, unlike Vegito Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but both still do their jobs amazingly - which is putting down enemies when Goku and Vegeta can't by themselves

Vegito is limited to techniques and can be said to be based on the power of the individuals who make the fusion, much more than the Metamoru fusion, which in addition to having the users' techniques, gains new ones that Vegito does not have access to, perhaps because they are magical, like the Soul Punisher, or the Kamikase ghosts, and Gogeta have a history of always defeating their enemies, with time to spare, and having no signs of effort, fatigue, or anything of the sort.

Here’s my headcanon which is backed up by statements. Gogeta seems to literally be Goku and Vegeta at the same time controlling the same, more powerful body. Vegito is his own entity though with his own thought process while having the memories of Goku and Vegeta. Also raw power aside, remember these two fusions have different personalities, which could influence the results as well.

Six, I got a question, when goku and vegeta do the fusion dance and goku has to lower his power level, where does that power go after they fuse? Does it just disappear or what? I was always under the impression that fusion dance requires the power levels to be equal for it to happen and that process has nothing to do with the power output of the fusion like how it has to be perfect like the the fingers being perfectly aligned and the dance being perfectly synchronised, I feel like the power levels being the same is just a process of the fusion to form and not that the fusion suddenly has less power because one of the fusees lowered they power like where do that power go? I wanna know your take on this .

I know this isn’t how fusions work, but it’s my opinion on how they SHOULD work. Potara is the easier of the two, and the more reliable. Having a catalyst in the form of the earrings allows for two beings of vastly different strength to fuse correctly. No memorization of dance moves required - the fusion is stable and strong - and you get an hour time limit. Fusion Dance is the stronger, but riskier option. First, the beings have to match their power levels exactly - allowing for a “perfect mix” when it comes to the energies. This allows the magnification of those energies to be more significant. Without a catalyst like the earrings, the subjects require a ritual - a dance - to correctly flow their energies into one another and fuse. Doing it wrong screws up the process and wastes time. (Another point for the fusion dance is that, apparently in lore, you can fuse MORE THAN TWO PEOPLE with the dance! And there’s a different dance for 3, 4, 5, and more!)
