NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED - (Pete 701, single and Pete 1101, album) Issued in April 1968, the debut single for the newly formed L.A. record company Pete Records by owner, Chris Peterson. Veteran torch song vocalist Gogi Grant, is is fine form on the Lalo Schifrin and Gale Garnet composition, 'Down Here on The Ground' from the Warner Bros motion picture, 'Cool Hand Luke'. Recorded in March 1968 at Hollywood's Gold Star Recording Studios, the wistful Lincolon Mayorga arrangement is played to perfection by L.A.'s 'Wrecking Crew'. Known primarily for her world-wide hit, 'The Wayward Wind' on Era Records from 1956, Miss Grant managed to record for five different record companies before signing with Pete Records where she release at least four singles and two albums during her tenure with the label. Performing up until 2013 at the age of 89, Gogi Grant would pass away in 2016 at the age of 91.

I wasn't disappointed with this one. With so many powerhouses behind it, it just wows the listener. To me, it could have been a theme song to James Bond movie. It sounds like it was made just for Gogi Grant. The producers must have had such trust in her. It sounds like they told her, "Step up to the mike, show us what you've got". I'm sure her reply would be, "I've got this". And she did! Thanks for sharing, quite delightful.

Lalo was the go to man for theme songs at the time. This, "Mannix" and "Mission: Impossible".

As Lawrence Welk would say, wunnerful, absolutely wunnerful. For Pete's sake, how do you keep finding these enchanting recordings? Was Gold Star's vault bigger than Fort Knox?

@@rogbrown1458 how's it goin"? AR provides cool details about recording studios, producers, arrangers, artists, musicians, etc. and fascinating behind the scenes photos of the people in the record biz who had their hands in what it took to make a recording all that it could be. Cheers, pal

@@thomassmith8721 the sounds that goldstar and other USA studios brought to us had far more depth than the UK ones. The wrecking crew and orchestras were way ahead of anything else at that time yet the studios didn't look a lot different to emi or decca.great to see where it all began. Stay safe bro. Rog. @@rogbrown1458 hello Yes, it's great seeing where it all began. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall at Gold Star Studios, to see and hear the treasure trove of records recorded there. Gold Star had the famous "echo chamber" Rog, I've said this before about The Wrecking Crew: They were the greatest studio musicians ever assembled. They were the best of the best around and were well respected in the music biz. They literally played on thousands of songs and numerous hit records and chart toppers. They also were an intricate part of Phil Spector's "wall of sound." Hal Blaine (RIP) was the drummer and leader of the "Crew.". Hal is on my list of greatest drummers of all time. Besides all the great bands that came from L.A., The City of Lights was home to many famous recording studios. BTW, I have a couple suggestions. for the name of our band. How about: The Over the Hill Gang ? or The Rocking Chairs ? Cheers!!
