I have never groomed a dog before. Our little terrier mix from the shelter has a heart condition and I cannot find a groomer who will groom him. He has a coat that gets so matted. I bought an angled wire brush which is helpful on his upper torso but not in sensitive areas of his body such as his belly, legs, paws, face, behind ears, etc. Today my vet suggested I use a 40 blade on his mats on his belly. Your video was very informative. I am somewhat scared about using a clipper so I will follow your videos and try to educate myself as much as possible. This video was excellent as are all of your videos. I really appreciate it. I was going to get the Wahl KM10 clipper but looks like they are hard to find right now. Thank you for taking your time to educate people like me, who may have to learn to groom their dog themselves!

I want to thank you for your channel! I am NOT a pet groomer, and during this cover-19 lockdown, I have not been able to get my 2 little rescue dogs nails clipped, and I live alone, have no one to help me. I've never had a dog where I couldn't clip their nails, but alas, I have a teacup yorkie/Maltese and then a Chihuahua/maltese, and their nails are out of control. I'm thinking I need to buy a grooming table to hold them, and I also need to trim their foot pad, and clippers to clip their nails. I'm watching every video you made, and thank you!! Much needed! After many days of reading reviews and research, I ordered the Andis UltraEdge 2-speed clipper from Amazon. Received it Friday (1/3/20) and returned it on Saturday. It just seemed poorly constructed. Did not even use it. The housing pieces did not fit together smoothly leaving uneven surfaces from the gaps when holding it . Found your video the next day and ordered the Wahl KM 10. Thanks for a great helpful video for us home groomers. I had spent days trying to decide which direction to go to purchase a new clipper for my dog. With so much marketing and hype, you have pulled back the curtain to make it simpler to understand. Now subscribed... Thanks!

I have a Bichon Frise and a Yorkie something. His vet calls him Yorkie mix but he's really something and was rescued from out in the desert full of cactus. Their groomer retired close to two years ago and I have been unable to find a good groomer since. They both resemble deserted dogs because of their clip. Went to grooming school around 40 years ago but only have my grooming table and arm left. I have studied for many hours to find out what clipper I really need and finally found YOU. Thank you for this video! During the corona virus our groomer is closed. My goldendoodle can only go so long without a trim. @@danavanek1504 I got a cordless Wahl Figura trimmer from tractor supply store. They had them in stock on-line and did curbside pickup for me at the store near my house. The reviews were pretty good but honestly, it was the only one I could find. Most of the really good trimmers were sold out. I also ordered a scissor set, which I'm waiting for. I trimmed her without it a few nights ago. I took on the attitude of the groomers I watched on KZbin and she was a good little girl. I messed up and trimmed the poof off the top of her head but honestly, these dogs are so cute you could never change that! Best wishes.

I love how you are helping us. I bought this cheap low noise clippers advertised on my phone. First it took forever to get here and it's worthless. It doesn't cut at all. I just got a yorkinese pup and it’s the first time I’ve ever had a dog that needed regular grooming, especially on her grinch feet. I’m currently waiting for her to get her final set of shots and her rabies shot so I can take her to the groomer, but I want to learn how to do her paws and face at home so I can extend the life of her regular groom. I’ve had her for 2 months and have just been trimming her paws and in between her pads with the safety grooming sheers (the one with the round ball edge on one side), but I have to put her in her front facing backpack and strap her to my husband for her to even let me trim her nails. Until I looked it up, I didn’t even know there was a difference between human and dog clippers and I’m so glad there are resources like you online. I shave my own head every 2-3 weeks and have an amazing wahl clipper set for myself and I thought I could just use that on her. Boy was I wrong and I’m so glad I looked it up (and found your video). Will definitely be purchasing one of the 5 in 1 cordless clippers since I only need it for her paws and face.

In response to your request, I used to by my products from 'Pets at Home' (I live in North Wales). Early this year I bought new Andis professional clippers , de-matting comb, professional shampoo & conditioner, cool care, clipper oil, a grooming apron for me, all from Amazon. I invested this money because we plan to emigrate and I wanted to learn to groom my dogs by myself, in case we couldn't find a groomer near to where we buy our new house, abroad. I'm so glad I did because since covid-19 has locked us all down, I can still ensure my dogs get a haircut when needed and they are kept tidy and brushed out. My husband has been trying to get me to groom our Lhasa Apso ever since I retired last fall (he hates that I pay more than 3 times what he pays for his haircut on the dog). Whooha, lady you are awesome to share this. I have a Peke that I normally keep in a show coat. I love his full long coat and enjoy brushing him out daily. We travel and do a lot of hiking but in the summer he gets hot hiking so it's a summertime puppy clip for my boy and it's all scissors baby -- no clippers except for sanitary areas. Lots of work but I knew this going in and grooming is just more fun time together. Anyway, my SIL has a Bichon Frise. Clippers she has tried won't even go 2-inches through his coat. His curls are super tight and curl very close to the skin. He is not matted just super tight curls. She is beside herself. I'll be passing this video on to her for sure. THANK YOU sooo much!!! Fantastic video! The information you provided is invaluable. Thank you! We started grooming George (standard poodle, chocolate, now 2 years old) at 6 months old. We purchased the Andis Proclip 2 speed (along with grooming table, etc.) and have had good success. We are getting much better with the process over the months. Recently, we added a second standard poodle (Kate, jet black) to the household. She is now four months old and introduced her to the grooming process the day we purchased her. However, she is not cooperative at all with her feet, and especially her muzzle. Any suggestions with a fidgety puppy?

I have adopted a stray Standard Poodle, when I found him he was in deplorable shape , very matted , he had to be shaved down, his ears and the top if his head was not too bad and the groomer was able to work through it , that was in April his hair has grown out and I have ckd the fees and they are more than I can afford so I have decided to do it myself. I have been watching several tutorials and I'm learning a lot , but what I like about yours is you describe the tools and their functions. Man I wished I had watched this video before I bought my Andis easy groom clippers two weeks ago. I bought them at a Tractor Supply store. It was over 100.00 plus I paid for a warranty protection plan too. So it was around 129. When I started looking online to get some information on how to groom a mini-schnauzer, I found out that I needed a 2speed, the one I bought is a 1 speed. I’ve been having a hard time finding a grooming business that does a good job for my breed of dog. So I decided I needed to try and learn myself. Mine has the detachable blade, but it’s a #10 only, so I guess I will need to buy other blades to change it out with. Thanks for your videos. It helps a lot for people in small town areas or just on a tight budget to get information they need to take care of their dogs. Thanks again so much.

I've been grooming for 20 years, and for the last 7 years I have mainly been using the Wahl Bravura clippers and sometimes the Andis AG cordless clipper, and get the job done quite nicely on all my dogs and cats. A long time ago I ordered the Wahl KM10 and it was noisy as hell ! I sent it back. I have found that the Andis corded clippers (various models) are the most QUIET. This is really important because I work on a lot of skittish and senior pets. If you wash and fluff dry a pets coat really well, you can get any clipper through the hair well. What I like about the BRAVURA is that when the lithium battery wears out you can send it back east to Wahl Corporation and for $40 bucks they will replace the battery and sharpen the blade on the clipper, which breathes new life into your clipper instead of having to plunk out $160 for a new one. Anyway good insider info you give about the big box stores selling crap to unsuspecting customers. PetEdge and Groomer's Choice sell only the best "Professional" Clippers for heavy duty work. Amazon does as well, but you have to know what brands you are looking for.

I'm a 19-year veteran of grooming that was taught by Petmart. Haha! I love your videos and love learning new things. I'll be getting the Wahl to possibly replace my Andis Ultraegde. I have always used Andis, but as the years pass, I'm finding that it's just so heavy in my hand. I groom 5 to 8 dogs per day, so....lots of hand fatigue at times. I also love that you gear your videos toward pet owners. I spend a lot of time teaching my clients so they can understand the method to my madness, and also how they can help me turn out the best work possible for their pet.

Thank you so much for sharing this info on clippers. I have been going mad trying to decide which clippers to buy during this COVID-19 self isolation situation. I plan on buying the Wahl KM 10 for my mini goldendoodle who weighs just 17 pounds. I have never groomed her myself, but if Wahl are the best, that’s what I’m getting. Could you please tell me if I will also need to purchase other blades with this unit? I’m not sure what is included in the box. Her coat is thick, more on the straight side but dense and when I get her from the groomer her fur is about 3/4”-1” long. It’s about 2” long now and I need to comb her with my metal comb every other day. Thanks again! I look forward to watching your grooming videos next!

Hello:) The Wahl km 10 is a wonderful clipper. They are all sold out everywhere but seem to plan on restocking the middle of May. That is the same for Andis and Oster clippers too. As long as you have properly bathed, brushed and fluffed you doodle before trimming you will be able to clip her with the help of snap on combs. The set has various lengths and the attach over the included #10 blade that your clipper should ship with in the box. Here is a link to purchase them on youtube. My Yorkie thanks you!! I say Ty!! I got Walmart clippers just like you showed for 5o bucks and now I know why my dog jumped, it probably got heated up on him poor baby. And now I know to test it so it doesn't get too hot.I now want a new set of clippers. I take my time grooming him it took me 5 days lol I trimmed a little at a time and I watched lots of grooming videos.I really enjoyed your video so informative. And you are right the only thing you can do with Walmart clippers is shave him 1/4 Inch.My Yorkie is shaved except his head and legs. I messed around with Wmart clippers before using them. They just didn't seem right to me and well now I know thanks to your video! At least I have been preventing my baby from getting matted up. It seems I just keep learning as I go. Again thank you. Thanks so much for this information. I work at Petsmart and we have seen lots of people buying clippers to groom their dog and then come back with them trying to return them because they “didn’t” work and now are stuck with them until returns are accepted again. Thanks!

I'm from Australia and the clippers are pretty expensive here, the KM10 is $400 at the cheapest I can find! But I feel that it might be worth it still, or maybe the AGC which is around $280 at the cheapest. Really appreciate your video!

I just watched my first Go Groomer video on You Tube with your clipper comparison. Good information, thank you. I am a home groomer. We have two male labradoodles. Murphy is 8 years old, weighs 95 pounds and has a curly poodle coat. Max is 2.5 years old, weighs 70 pounds and has a fleece type coat. I decided to start grooming at home when Max was diagnosed with Addisons Disease. Dogs with Addison many times do not handle stress too well. To make life easier for him and help keep him healthy and more stress free it was the right thing to do. I live in the Rocky Mountains in Evergreen Colorado and do a lot of shopping online. I always do price comparisons with online retailers and brick and mortar retailers that are about 15-20 miles away from my home. I dis lots of research on the tools I needed. Wish I had found your videos sooner. I bought the Wahl 5n1 clippers and they do a pretty good job. Both dogs have thick coats and in the near future I will be purchasing the Wahl KM-10. I look forward to watching more of your videos.

I originally bought a cheaper Wahl clipper to groom my Scottie to make sure I could actually do it myself. Luckily I received some clippers as part of a reviewing program. The one that worked for me was the Oster cordless clipper. It was quieter (most clippers really stressed him out) and not having the cord in the way helped also. I do most of my shopping at Amazon. Thank you so much for this video. I have two Yorkipoos and whenever I try and groom them the hair gets stuck in the clippers and pulls. I’ve tried several clipppers and they never hold up. This is despite my washing and brushing them first. I got the Wahl KM10 as you suggested, and it is amazing. So easy for me and my doggies. Also got the Wahl Bravura to do close areas on face, paws and privates. It works great too. Again thanks for your help.

This is the best Video that I have seen to help the home groomer it showed everything I was doing was wrong and that's why I was always frustrated with the grooms. I have 3 Shi Tzus and a Morkie and cant afford to get them groomed all together. I have been using the wrong clippers and now know why I could not even get close to a good groom. My dad always groomed our cockapoos growing up and now living on my own with my sheepadoodle, I want to groom her at home in between professional groomings. I have kept her hair LONG for over a year but now that I’m going back to teaching in person for the first time since last March, she will be going to a doggy daycare (that has an indoor swimming pool) and I don’t think I’ll be able to maintain that super long Sheepadoodle coat if she’s getting wet and playing all day every day. Wasn’t able to get an appointment with my groomer so I am attempting to cut her down at home. I started by hand scissoring her legs and was exhausted😂 got the Wahl Ss Pro clipper from Tractor Supply, is this decent or should I return it and order the Wahl Km?

Your videos are great and so helpful. I have never heard anyone else talk about brushless vs regular clippers. I have a standard poodle. Based on your review I ordered a Whal KM10 on Amazon. Sadly, it is on back order with no estimate on when they will be in. Based on your videos I also ordered the Whal metal attachable comb guides. When my KM10 arrives, it will come with a 10 blade. I also ordered a 30 blade. What is the difference in the cut when using a 10 blade Vs. the 30 blade with the combs? You mention a 5:1 being a luxury. If I don’t get a 5:1 clipper what other detachable blades do I need to purchase to do face, feet and sanitary? The detachable blades are not inexpensive so I want to make sure I am not getting a size I don’t need. Are any of the 5:1 clippers brushless?

Hello:) You don't need a 5:1 clipper. If you ordered the wahl km 10 you will not need any other clipper:) The 10 blade that comes with your clipper will be great to use under your stainless steal combs and in the sanitary areas:) I only use a 30 blade in the pads of the feet. You certainly can use the 30 blade under your snap on combs if you would like. Hope this helps:) Hugs!

You can't see me but I'm bowing down to you right now. I did buy one of the $40 rechargeable Wahl kits any "just in case" scenario. Well...now I'm in the 2020 pandemic, quarantined in NY, everything non-essential is closed and my Doodle looks more like my sheep. 3 hrs yesterday of clipping in layers (cause no way will they go thru the matted hair at all) and we still have over 2 inches of fur. After another hour, a couple of Tylenol pain pills and another layer, I gave up. My goldendoodle is started to resemble a Saluki that might have gotten groomed with a weed wacker 🤦🏼‍♀️ I just got out of the online wormhole of clippers, blades, lengths, cut styles, blah blah blah...it was time for a bottle of wine and some blade/clipper KZbin research. I watched a lot of how-to grooming vids but not the actual equipment. Now I understand what I need. So Sadie and I thank you, soooo much!!! At least now, one of us will come out of quarantine looking better than when we went in.

I have 2 Shih Tzu's and I don't buy cheap. When I decided to start grooming at home, I did my research. The best product I can add is a product made in the UK. It's called Secret Weapon for the bath and Hypknotic for brush out. I mix my shampoo with John Paul tearless shampoo. As you blow dry the leftover Matt's out there's nothing better. Start with a great shampoo and continue using great products throughout the process. As far as Pets Mart goes, I wouldn't buy a turd from them! Their grooming salon is terrible and they cause a great deal of trauma and harm to your pup, I have thousands of dollars in vet Bill's because they didn't care for their tools and we had 3rd degree razor burn in the sanitary area and tummy. We had cuts in the arm pits and the worst was cuts and contusions and several days at the vet. I've learned a lot from these You Tube videos and have found I'm just as good at grooming as they are! Try Secret Weapon and Hypknotic with the recommended GOOD CLIPPERS and blade guards and you'll be one happy at home groomer. This is a top notch video for just the right information that I was looking for. As for AMAZON, I don't know what the hating is all about. We are shifting the way we shop and if there is a store than keeps overhead down and prices low, while providing a HUGE assortment of items and REVIEWS often with pictures and obviously ratings, while saving time and gas, driving around trying to find what I want. THEN AMAZON is the 1st choice. I love our local stores, but when they stock their shelves with junk (and they do) then they don't deserve our business. Again, thanks for the video, the WAHL is exactly what I was actually looking at purchasing. BTW AMAZON is not ALWAYS the cheaper option, our local petsmart has the KM10 for $230CAD and AMAZON lists it for $899....WOW.
