I think part of the reason future gohan even with over a decade of fighting never reached his real potential is because he had allready lost faith in his abilities, whenever he loses faith in himself he gets weaker like against cell at the end. I think he had allready decided trunks would be the one that could fix the world because he didnt think he was strong enough.

Good lord I like that, what you just said! In my mind I always wanted to see Future Gohan going from place to place hunting down the Androids. Being alone, afraid, knowing he isn't and will never surpass the Androids in his time. Crying for his fallen friends and family, in the special it's never implied that FG goes to even visit his mother because he is on the Android mission. Which to me makes it very, very depressing. Yea there are definitely plot holes revolving around Future Goku's lack of helping his son in the Alternate Future, I've made a few music edits where Goku is an active ghost in the afterlife and tries to help Gohan in the future, granted I try to make it seem like even with Gohan's father there speaking to him, he still isn't enough. Now with Piccolo that's a whole other story oh boy...

Future Gohan is just one of those guys that I learned to have a deeper appreciation for as I got older, along with guys like Piccolo and Tien. Not many may realize or accept it, but present Gohan is currently at his best right now 💯💯

Current timeline Gohan is nowhere near at his strongest. The mystic/ultimate form he has just eliminates the need of Super Saiyan transformations, eliminating the Stamina drain they bring. Look at how strong he was against super Buu and how strong he got after training for a few days with Piccolo. Gohan is also denying his Saiyan heritage at this point, as he stated he wanted to find a different path to power, different than Vegeta or Goku. Kinda weird how he's denying his Saiyan heritage now since that's literally why he's so strong, Goku denied his Saiyan heritage and then accepted it, resulting in him becoming way stronger than ever before.

well, in the context of the future being saved, Gohan was 100% correct. Because of his death, Trunks achieved Super Saiyan, fought the androids (barely survived) went back in time to save Goku, trained with Vegeta and became stronger, Gohan killed Cell, Trunks returns and single handedly kills both androids with no sweat. sure, Future Gohans death made Present Gohan stronger aswell, but Future Gohan was speaking about his timeline, his world. Would've been interesting if Gohan actually survived that android encounter (or it didn't happen) and Gohan went back in time to help Goku and train Gohan. would love Toriyama or his apprentice to make a what if scenario where this happens.

Well the whole Arc technically was weird anyway.. because Kid Goku also never aged until the end of DB. he never looked older in DB either until the very end where randomly he was an adult. Goku went from a kid to basically an adult in the span of 3 years (since Piccolo was 3 years when he fought Goku in the martial arts tournament) Gohan is the only instance where we actually saw growth through the series. we went from kid Gohan into Teen Gohan into Adult Gohan.

Also, Trunks here is the same age as trunks in the fucking Goku Black arc, so there is zero reason for Trunks to look different here than he does in Z at the same age. I feel that Babidi and his group may have sensed the activity and the energy levels on Earth during the Cell Games which may have attracted them to come sooner than later to revive Buu. Because if the Kais knew about it by the Buu saga then Babidi would have as well. In Trunks's timeline, there were barely any humans left or deities on Earth heading for self destruction in a way.

Jerky921 just mentioned the same thing. Goku was only able to talk to Gohan because he sacrificed himself against Cell. He was allowed to keep his body and be with King Kai, only for that reason.

I always assumed that HFIL/Other World only applied to warriors who die in battle with the result being them remaining in that current reality with their bodies. So this may explain why Goku was indeed around to help after the Cell Saga. But that being considered, Vegeta was killed in battle so couldn't he have helped from there, or the othe Z fighters for that matter in the Future Trunks timeline?

And there would have been no point for the Kais to get involved since it only meant the destruction of one planet and not the entire universe. I think also that Toriyama may have just deliberately neglected these possibilities to emphasize the shear hopelessness for that timeline

The Future Goku not using king Kai telepathically communicating with Future Gohan is that this is really Trunks' story (it fits the whole apocalyptic theme and all). Plus this can also serve as a warning that anything can happen to Goku and the other Z-Fighters and the 'Z' era is where characters suffer violent deaths (this is arguably the worst case scenario). Also Future Gohan didn't have the same resources as his father (King Kai, Hyperbolic Time Chamber, etc) and was limited as a result. In Xenoverse 2, Xeno Trunks wanted to avoid his mentors death so badly, but stopped when the Future Warrior #2 blocked his way. In the Unknown History Saga, Trunks went against Chronoa's wishes and saved Gohan at the cost of creating a new timeline. Future Gohan's death served as a catalyst for Future Trunks to become SSJ (meaning that his death technically wasn't in vain). Heck Xenoverse 2 History of Trunks Saga served as a way of letting Future Gohan know that his final fate had a purpose and went to fight the Androids anyways.

Kami's lookout, Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Both could've trained for a year inside. They killed the Z Fighters, nothing about the lookout destroyed. Then there's the thing Bulma and Trunks could've gone to New Namek. Yes it was revived in that timeline too because it happened just after the planet exploded and they tried to revive Goku with the Dragonballs, but he survived. Gohan hadn't died prior so he could've been revived with both arms, Trunks training in chamber before both stepping out to face the androids.

Shin, or even King Kai should of told Trunks where New Namek was. Trunks could of brought back everyone except for Goku before Goku Black arrived, and probably would of been able to stop him without the help of the past. I say this, because I'm sure Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, and Piccolo at the very least were still training in otherworld. Vegeta, and Gohan would probably have SSJ2 at the very least by time Goku Black arrived, which would mean that Black would have to face 3 SSJ2s. Goku still would probably have unlocked SSJ3 so Gohan, or Vegeta could have learned it as well, and then passed it on to Trunks. Goku learned of Fusion while he was dead in the new timeline, so I'm sure the original timeline Goku would learn it as well, which would allow 2 of the 3 Saiyans on Earth to fuse when fighting Black. Piccolo could probably fuse with the other Saiyan if need be, or even Goku if he comes down for his 1 day on Earth to fight Black. I'd imagine SSJ2 Gogeta, and SSJ2 Gohanks could probably handle Black(if not as SSJ2s then surely as SSJ3s). They'd be fighting him as he arrives so he wouldn't have the Zenkai boost from fighting New Timeline Goku, or Rose. I'm sure they could defeat Zamasu as well, because they could use the Mafuba to trap him like they planned to do in Super, but failed to do so for plot.

I have some thoughts on your analysis here. 1) You attributed Gohan’s lack of ascension to SS2 with Goku missing, but I posit that it goes well beyond just him. Future Gohan had no Piccolo to mentor him. He also didn’t have Vegeta coming to the realization that there must be something beyond SS1. His martial arts training would have ended when he was a kid. Without another Saiyan there to teach him about his physiology and the nature of his ability to transform, there is a good chance he wouldn’t figure it out on his own. To the Gohan who lost his dad before the androids showed up, SS1 was the highest form of power a living thing could achieve on its own. 2) It is perfectly acceptable to think that Goku would not have been allowed to keep his body in the timeline where he dies of heart disease. There was a huge difference between Goku’s death in the Cell games and everything else he had done up to that point. He beat King Piccolo in a quest for revenge. His death in the fight against Raditz was certainly noble, but was ultimately a sacrifice for his son. He battled Frieza as much for his own satisfaction and the thrill of a challenge as anything else. He was also motivated by a desire for revenge. His actual fight with Cell was, again, selfish and short sighted, but his death was something special this time. Goku died in the Cell games in order to save not just his son, but the entire galaxy from a problem he had a hand in creating indirectly. He died to redeem himself from hood mistakes with his son and as penance for creating so many threats to the earth. It was selfless, and it’s the only thing he did that required not something other than throwing a punch. He wasn’t overcoming an obstacle. Dying in this way was completely against his nature and that is what makes this so different.

For the point about Goku not getting involved in the future timeline, we must remember that he needs Baba to bring him to and from the mortal realm. Assuming she was killed when on Earth by 17 and 18, he'd have no means to get there without breaking whatever unspoken rule there is about the dead not being able to interact with the living realm beyond the 1 day pass.

Great video as always. It would have been nice if Gohan wasn't sacrificed at all and they just went back in time after being defeated. It's sad that someone has to always die, be severely injured, or experience some sort of tragedy before they start using their heads and thinking of a good solution to their current or future problems.

Great video. Really makes you wonder what could have been. If the writing was more organized, cohesive and well thought out. Or if toriyama TRIED at least one arc after cell with Gohan as the hero-- like against Bojack for example. If it wasn't received well then they could have went in the direction of Buu saga.
