It's why I think this should have been the ending for DBZ, no Buu arc. Cell was a perfect (no pun intended) capstone villain for the entire story of Dragonball to DBZ, as his origin ties together Frieza, the Saiyans, and the Red Ribbon Army. On top of that you have Goku's sacrifice, and Gohan rising to be Earth's new protector, cleaning up all of Goku's mess in one epic blast. If it had ended there, sure people would have always begged for more from Gohan, more for him to do after Cell. But I feel like that would have been a better outcome then what happened to his character in the Buu arc and Super.

I agree. I think there are parts the sub does better and parts the dub does better. This part was handled a lot better by the dub, as the music during the sub version sounds almost comical, and it doesn't play Vegeta's theme when he interrupts. The music in the dub makes this scene chilling, it better portrays the killer instinct and savagery of Gohan's Saiyan blood and the rage within. You don't just think he looks like a monster, but with the music, it feels like you're WATCHING a monster walk toward his defeated foe firing the Kamehameha.

The fact that he carried that ENTIRE BEAM one handed, broken arm, flies up with it's the most badass thing in DBZ. Goku told him not to worry about Earth but he couldn't help it. It's why he held back so much in the first place, that blast at 1:09 shows all of what he'd held back. He had to find the moment to let out to rage to give himself the power to not blow up the Earth, to not do what Cell aimed to do.

I like to believe that cells "vegeta!?" Was cell questioning vegetas logic. Up till trunks died, vegeta fought only for himself and to test his power. When he lost his son, his rage got to him and he fought for trunks, but still had the idea he could take cell on his own. After being over powered, he had a pride conflict and overcame the thought that if cell beats Gohan, no one would stand a chance. While he's watching g the z group give it their best, he's making snide remarks of how they won't even make a difference. Something clicked in vegeta to let go of his pride and finally fight for the greater good. Cell, I believe, was banking on that vegeta would watch and wait for his turn and that's why he's so shocked that vegeta intervened, but for the assist not the kill. Vegeta intervenes 3 other times in this saga...to kill 19, 18, and semi perfect cell. But all 3 were to test his own strength. This was the only time it was to save the world.
