Meanwhile in France : 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. What do you mean "sign up" ? You get all the classes.
@MarieWev7 ай бұрын
In U.S. colleges/universities, you “sign up”/register for the specific classes you decide on, based on your major/minors and interests (and based on what your advisor says), which includes different available class times/periods (some classes have evening times, some have morning times, some have afternoon times and some only have one specific time). It’s to give more flexibility to students’ and prof’s personal schedules (like with their jobs outside of school and extracurricular activities), and so no one class gets extremely overcrowded. Plus, there are hundreds, if not thousands of different classes to choose from, so it doesn’t make sense for everyone to be in the same ones, although most colleges still have some classes they require for everyone (core classes like a more general history or general standard math course)
@MarieWev7 ай бұрын

@P4BL0_C4L106 ай бұрын
I mean, you either have to: wake up early (you'll likely won't sleep in the afternoon), lose the morning to college and the night to the rest but have the afternoon; use the afternoon for college and either sleep in the morning or the night and win the other one for personal use; or whatever do people who sign up for night classes do. In any case, you use a third of the day to work and another third to rest, so it comes down to what third do you like the most for personal use

@audreypiper19734 ай бұрын
I keep hearing people say, “don’t sign up for 8 am classes.” I disagree somewhat. Understand what your body’s circadian rhythm -sleep/wake cycle- and preferences for when you want to do and complete course work. Ex: I like morning classes because I can get up early in the morning and function. I want to be done with coursework by afternoon, so I can have me-time during daytime. In addition, I figure that it would hard on my body to work continuously at night. Therefore I take morning classes. A lot of students are night owls or have better productivity levels during the afternoon/night, so afternoon classes may be better for them or you. Yet don’t just take afternoon/night classes because everyone says so. Be honest with yourself and do what’s best for you! I don’t know if this idea was imperative, however I hope this helps if you were questioning.

My favorite 'cheat code' for college: Schedule ALL your classes for Tuesdays and Thursdays. The only 'catch' is to pay close attention to *where* the classes are being held - lock down the must-have courses (usually related to your major) first, then it's fairly easy to find gen-ed courses to 'connect' the others. (If you're lucky, you can sometimes get ALL your courses in the same building.) This is fairly easy to do with a 12/13 hr course load, and doable with a 15-18 hr course load - 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM for lectures, with evening labs on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. This pays off multiple ways: 1 ) This leaves Wednesdays completely clear as homework/study days. This works particularly well as most TR courses have all tests/quizzes on Thursdays: ~ The Tuesday lectures are still fresh in your mind when doing your homework on Wednesdays ~ Your Wednesday homework is still fresh in your mind when taking tests/quizzes on Thursdays 2 ) If you live a ways from campus, this also means you're only commuting two days per week (saving money on transportation, particularly vs classes spread over five days). This is doubly effective as living either on or near the campus tends to be expensive - you can save a bundle just by living a bit further away from the campus. 3 ) If you decide to work while in college, you have Friday through Monday completely clear - the four days most entry-level employers have the highest demand for. Depending on the type of job, some employers even pay a premium for people who can work weekends. (And jobs are everywhere, so you can likely walk to work even if you commute to classes.)
@tukangparkir2977 ай бұрын
So basically: .Get your lecture (that's related to your major) in the midweek .Get the lecture in the same building (if possible) .Do your homework between those two days .Work on the weekends .Profit, understand 100%
@twylanaythias7 ай бұрын
@@tukangparkir297 Let's say you're one of 5000 sophomores, and probably one of only 100 sophomores in a particular major. Of the major-related courses that fit your degree plan, one's 9:30-10:50 TR and another's 3:30-4:50 TR with a 5:00 R lab - since they're all for the same major, odds are good they're all in the same building. (Call it Building 405.) You also need a life science and see a biology course two buildings over (5-min walk; call it Building 502) 11:00-12:20 TR with a 5:00 T lab. You're feeling confident with these courses, so you decide to take two gen-eds as well - and since there's 5000 sophomores needing these course, there are a LOT of offerings all over campus. A bit of research and you land an 8:00-9:20 TR History class in Building 303 (5-min walk from 405, 10-min walk from 502) and a 12:30-1:50 TR English class in Building 710 (8-min walk from 502 and distant from all others). So now you have a solid block of classes from 8:00 AM to 1:50 PM and another from 3:30 PM until 8:00 PM. 710 is quite a ways from 405, but you've got over an hour and a half to eat lunch and make it to the next class. If you drive, it's easy to get a parking pass for a lot near Building 405 (since that's your major), so your day starts and ends near where you're parked. Two 12-hour days, yes, but a 17-hour course load and (excepting your lunch break) you're never more than 5 minutes from your next class. (I've done 20-hour semesters, packing snacks and skipping lunch, using this method - all while staying on the Honor Roll.)

I pretty much have no choice but to sign up for 8 am classes so that I get full units/load every semester so that I graduate on time. It's not that much of a hassle since my house is just near the uni I go to

Depends on the region. I can’t choose the time of my classes, it’s pre-determined.

I really enjoy my 8 am classes theyre so easy, and I don't feel drowsy during the early hours like how I feel in the later half of my day

I regret choosing morning classes. The afternoon class was a game changer for me since my second year in college

I personally hate afternoon classes because in the morning I feel pressured about classes and after I dknt have time for anything else sooooo

The thing is, it really depends on the way your body is built, your body clock that is. Some people are early birds, wake up at 4am, and operate their best at that time. Others are naturally prone to later times and do better work in afternoon hours. There's no one-size-fits-all schedule to this. You just really need to know your body and self well AND maintain a healthy sleep schedule that matches. I would highly recommend watching some Andrew Huberman to learn more about this. He explains it much better than I do.

Sorry, but I'm pretty sure that if I had the option to chose when to have my classes, I would choose the 8 AM regardless. It's just easier, my sleep schedule is adjusted to it.

Engineering is best for this because, even though its sorta difficult at first with prep courses, all of your professors in your main undergrad classes have jobs and therefore clock in later in order to give classes on the side at university. Usually from 6pm - 10pm is your range, but it is by no means a walk in the park.

I don’t get to choose my lecture times, but personally i love starting at 9am- it’s doable and means i have the whole afternoon to finish set work/ do labs, compared to friends that get up late every day

I was on the other hand considering resetting my sleep schedule, and taking the classes on the morning again, because with commuting, and afternoon classes, you just dont have any time anymore, once you get home

Afternoon classes are a sure no from me, unless you want to fight not falling asleep while someone is reading something to you 🥴🥴

I like waking up early and getting class done, then spending the day reflecting on what i learned and spending rhe afternoon doing notes. Then do clubs throughout the day.

We don't have the option of choosing which classes to sign on since we had between 4 to 7 hours of lectures each day, but i use to skip more than half of them, still somehow managed to be in top 6 even tho before finals i had the mindset of "I'm still to young, it wouldn't hurt to repeat a year"
