Actually Kramnik is 3rd. Ding and Grischuk share 3rd. I would enjoy Ding Liren winning the candidates due to the puns that would be created if he wins.

What do you mean by "everyone"? lol anyone who was realistic knew he didnt stand a chance in hell of winning this tournament. His score historically in the Candidates is atrocious, I think he had like 10 wins to 10 losses prior to this Candidates. Along with that, just about everyone in the Candidates besides maybe Grischuk (even that is debatable) and Karjakin is much stronger than Aronian. Many people wanted to believe he could win the Candidates because he played a few nice games last year and won the World Cup, when the reality is that the World Cup is a double elimination knockout tournament that does not really prove anything about the winner.

I only got back into chess 2 years ago. When I did (and imagine this: not knowing anything about modern chess!) I looked at the world's top players by rating. They were 1- Carlsen, 2- Caruana, 3- Aronian. So any game between these two is mega-exciting to me. I just can't believe Aronian in this tournament. He's been On-Fire all year, and now, when it counts....

when g4 was played, Aronian had around 1h15 and FC had around 1h06 as I remember. And Aronian was playing a few moves after g4 relatively fast.

I was following this game live on chessgames.com and had Stockfish analyze. Aronian's attack was unsound. Stockfish gave White a negative evaluation all thoughout the attack.

Armenian names often end with VCian, where V is a vowel, usually A or O, and C is a consonant. Like Kardashian. The ending means son, like -vic´ in Croatian or the -s in the Welsh Jones and Davis. Petrosian means Peterson (or Petrovic´). The accent is on the V preceding the ending. Agadmator gets it right with PetrOsian and VagAnian, but has problems with ArOnian.

Form in chess is a funny thing: I find myself that sometimes I'll go for a while not being able to win anything and just playing really badly; then, suddenly, I'll start playing good again. There doesn't seem to be any reason for it. Maybe the same for Aronian? Candidates tournament not a good time for it to happen, obviously!

Oh no my friend, I like Lev and still want him to be the winner, but mathematically its so improbable its best to not get my hopes up just to be let down, but no matter what, the games he had played in this candidates are the best so far even with the loses. This game vs Fabi was a really beautiful try, just not enough to beat a really strong player like Fabi. Honestly though, i don't see anyone beating Magnus for the title right now anyway. So next Candidates Lev can have another shot and go on to play Magnus.
