For projects, I know it’s fairly big but I’d like to see you guys do an aero barrier (or whatever it’s called now) since it’s a 30 years old and go for a really energy efficient house remodel. For the backyard, go for a hedgerow barrier/fence for maximum privacy.

Happy for you both. A recommendation...Keep the vehicles in the garage and put the game room and storage above. Vehicles cost money and the weather is hard on them. Do add the AC and heat to it. Awesome!! Congrats Rad and Summer!! Nice house. Can’t wait to see Summer and Rad putting the hard work. I’d break it into phases and you can fine tune as adjust as you learn more about your house and how you live in it: Phase 1 - kitchen / downstairs master and living updates Phase 2 - Deck Phase 3 - upstairs & attic / bridge Phase 4 - second floor above garage. That way you don’t drive yourselves crazy with a whole house that’s ripped apart. Ideas - think about the future and where your kids will be. Do you want to be running up and down the stairs with young kids in the middle of the night? I’d take a hard look at making a new master suite upstairs in the existing or new attic/garage spaces. Then let Rad’s dad have the downstairs master. Maybe put light updates in the downstairs master and spend the bucks on a nice upstairs master suite. That’s just me. The other thing is to maybe consider making another StudPack channel. I see a lot of KZbinrs doing it. It might help bring in more ad revenue?

First, congratulations Rad and Summer. Your house looks great and will look superb soon enough. Lucky for me and your viewers to see and learn more along the way (Paul, you're the man!). Having just remodeled our kitchen - two new exterior walls, windows, doors, gutted top to bottom, built my cabs, yada, yada. I suggest two things: pay money to consult with one or two designers whose aesthetic you trust; and, live in the house for a bit before sledge-hammering away. I'm living the mistake of not doing that and it will be costly to fix. In our remodel, I replaced the existing breakfast nook at the back of the kitchen leading into the yard, and I configured the door/windows of that back wall there to accommodate the nook, which tightened the light and flow at the back. At the other end of the kitchen, we widened doorway into the dining room, which invited us to eat in the D.R. and never at the breakfast nook. Now, the nook feels like an obstruction that impedes the flow and light out the back and into the yard (where we also have a table on the patio). Our plan now is to remove the nook, reconfigure the back kitchen exterior wall, and replace a window and door with sliding doors, which also means a new header, repairing stucco, etc. 🙄. In retrospect, I wished I had lived a bit more with the house before committing to what now seems like an obvious mistake and second I wished I had consulted with a professional. You'll make a few of these types of errors along the way, just try to minimize them with some well-spent money and pacing. Again, congratulations, these are exciting times.

Congrats on the new house guys! I want to give a word of advice (I know, hard to believe folks in the comments would do that). When I heard Summer say she wanted to move the microwave up a little I winced a bit. I redid our kitchen a few years back and we put in a low profile over stove microwave. Loved it…until the first time my 5ft tall wife used it. Her reaching up and in to that microwave is a recipe for disaster. Not to mention me having to fix the turntable every other day for where she’s tried to slide a dish in there and knocked it off the rollers. So, I would say consider a drawer type unit. I know they’re pricey, but in the long run I know you’ll appreciate it. And it looks pretty apparent the Summer is taller than 5ft and might think it’s okay…but I’m 5’10” and I wish I had the drawer style too. Anyway, hope that’s helpful, and best of luck with the reno!
